I was going to say something like that, but that was incredible. Yahtzee's webcomics episode was right: Just apply videogame logic to the real world and you've got an instant hit. 
 
They could have done a roll into it (Zelda) 
 
Throw a Bob-omb at it (or any item, really. Smash Bros.) 
 
Use a Charge Beam or fire a missle (Metroid Prime) 
 
Wait to see if a gorilla jumps out of it (DK, although they did barrels) 
 
Use the cutter ability (Kirby) 
 
I have to say though, the Myst comment completely made this video for me.

It was cooler when it was a crate. You should have used an axe to smash the crate open.  
Wish Vinny was there for this but Dave filled in nicely.

This is one of the most primitive videos on Giant Bomb lol. 4 dudes standing around a crate just oogling it.  Trying to figure out how to get the stuff that's in it, out of it.  By the way, the Squeeballs look awesome, the game...?  Meh.
