They do. "Big wig publishers" just lag like CRAZY in following trends because, well, the bigger the beast, the slower it moves. And the less willing they are to take risks.

I think around the time a nice alien that could fly was considered unrealistic and boring and a billionaire supergenius cyberninja was considered grounded and gritty.

I hope so, though I think it might take longer than than. I think it takes at least two dev cycles (which can range in time based on the exact genre) to kill off the "me too's" of a game movement, with the first one to indicate the big dog can't be taken down and the next one to prove it. I mean we are still getting subscription MMO's, though it has looked recently that this is just getting the money while you can. I do hope different styles of MOBA's come around. I don't mind all the ancillary stuff, but the exact gameplay of the current stuff isn't all that interesting to me....though a space opera with hero ships and starbases as towers might at least tempt me.

Glad to be a trailblazer in this world of anonymous male internet voices. Everyone pissed about my contribution at the end can suck it.

It's not women's fault they are marketed to as gamers, they make up a sizeable chunk of videogame players. Publishers just ignore them.

I hope 2014 is the year ignorant young male gamers stop pretending that the rampant casual (and not so casual) sexism in video games is an imaginary problem. I also hope 2014 is the year that writing or broadcasting about these issues, is not automatically signing up for several hundred comments of angry young male gamers declaring that there's nothing wrong - nothing to see here, move along.

Unfortunately I suspect we will have to wait at least a few more years, until the median gamer's age ticks up a bit higher.

There's a reason Anita Sarkeesian provokes such a massive, hostile reaction with her videos, and it isn't just because people think she's wrong (male gaming writers say shit I disagree with all the time, but aren't subject to the mountains of hate and threats she gets). It's because she touches an incredibly raw, real, embarrassing nerve with the "gaming" community, and people don't like it.

Does this mean all male gamers are sexist? Of course not. But it certainly points to cultural issues with an industry that has always traditionally been marketed towards young men.

She's talking shit about games she's never played and has never cared to play I see a problem with that.

Phil fish would disagree with you on that fact she had it worse then any male hell patrick would probably disagree the shit he takes on a daily basis. Hell delve into the youtube community and you'll notice that everyone who says something someone could disagree with gets a torrent of deaths threats and insults from the people who disagree or people who just wanna be dicks.

My prediction is that the steam box will be a success. not a major one, but enough to bring more and more console gamers over and because of this the pc won't be that weird other thing that nerds play and it will be more commercial - so much so that I predict at the end of this year and into 2015 big gaming companies will start to make pc exclusives like naughty dog does for sony :)

this is a great idea. Please bring on more community comments in audio format in many other different forms. Comments on news, rumors, predictions, games, arguments, whatevs.

Predict that Titanfall will be a great game on PC and the Xbox One, but there will still be a bunch of silly "Xbox 180" posts. There will also be great games for the PS4 and maybe also on PC at the same time, but there will still be a bunch of silly posts saying that these new consoles are attempting to justify their existence in a world run by PCs where all other gaming platforms are a load of garbage.

Additionally, there will be a bunch of great games on the Vita, PC, Wii U, and 3DS. Even some great ones on PS3 and Xbox 360. There will also be bad games on all of these machines. This year will be better than 2013.

@patrickklepek: Funny you make those examples because I've said them before I've got little patience for people who feel like they are special and their bad experience is some how unique and they are being targeted and no one else. Everyones life is fucked at times the difference between me and your average person I run into is I deal with it I don't expect the world to change to comfort me.

I don't complain I was born with numerous mental illnesses I deal with it I don't expect the world to baby me. I don't spend my time trying to end bullying in which blinded me in one eye and left me with a limp. Life is not fair DEAL WITH IT.

There is 3 ways to deal with the world being shit be mad at yourself because it's some how your fault and honestly I've never understood that state of mind. Be mad at the world for being shit which I've found pointless over the years or accept the world for what it is. I'm sure you can figur out what i'v settled on.

Please extend that to something similar, like, say, "Everyone reads things, just deal with it." or maybe, "Everyone needs to hit the 'X' button sometimes, just deal with it." or for the more combative, "Everyone needs to rage post sometimes, just deal with it." Physical/material harm is not the same as bad words on the internet.

Everyone is faceless on the internet, no one that isn't internet famous (or real life famous) is a human to anyone else, just a target that you forget, hate, or like after your first interaction. (unless we somehow enter a dystopian VR based internet that uses your actual body through some government managed full body scan ID system and has no texting... can that be my prediction for 2014?)

@dsi1: I wasn't even gonna go into the difference between words and real violence the last time I did that I got suspended for a week because people don't like my attitude about that. After all I've been beat so badly that i'm blind in my left eye and walk with a permanent limp. I know the difference Your average asshat that likes the make the comparison hasn't seen violence outside a screen and certainly never felt the real pain.

It's silly to think even the most harsh words can have the same effect as a brick to the head or a bat to the knee. It's one thing to hurt someone's feelings it's a complete nother thing to cripple them.
