Giant Bombcast 07-31-2012

Started listening to this when I started my commute Wednesday and it ended as soon as I pulled into my parking space today, perfect!

Des Moines for E3 2016

Water polo is really fucking hardcore at the pro level. I've heard of coaches making players tread water holding a 5 gallon bucket of water over their heads, then on command they flip the bucket and pour it on themselves. Also heard a few stories from high school friends that you have to actively protect your groin, because apparently that's the meta game in men's water polo.

EDIT: I'm gonna get that Star Trek bluray, mostly for the special features. Next Generation will make a Star Trek fan out of you if you've never really understood the appeal - it's worth watching in SD on Netflix if you're in that boat.

The last couple of Podcasts were really something special. I know you guys don't care what we think but i hope you return to the 4 man format permanently.

I still play City of Heroes lol.

I lost it when they name dropped, of all things, Babar.

Sounds like the duders forgot New Super Mario Bros. was SIX YEARS AGO. That said, it does look similar.

And what had he done in the LONDON Olympics when the podcast was recorded a week ago? Because he certainly hadn't won those 18 gold THIS Olympics. He did most of THAT damage in earlier Olympics, which I stated. Because if we are going to start to "get the facts right" let's not try and bring a week of hindsight and a rapid change in Phelp's fortunes this Olympics into this. Up to the point of the podcast, Phelps hadn't done that much in the early going, exactly what I wrote. It's funny in hindsight, but it wasn't a wrong statement. Admittedly, he HAD medaled, so Brad's exact quote was definitely wrong, I think Phelps had even gotten the record in the exact chronology of the likely recording time of the podcast vs when Phelps raced, but I'm willing to account for tape delay affecting the views of casual sports fans like most of the Bombcrew.

And I'm not even one to defend them on these matters, they've been BLISTERINGLY wrong on some topics they've strayed into, as I said to the person I was quoting, but I don't think they were far off when the statements were made. Heck Phelps himself had made it clear how onerous his swimming had become.

I don't even care that much ... but the dude did enough. And was there ever any doubt? I mean he's the best, it's indisputable, to think he'd show up to the Olympics, let alone qualify because you don't just get to show up, is ridiculous. It's fair enough to have doubts, but he was always going to win at least one gold medal. He skipped the opening ceremony to get a good nights sleep before his race. He's dedicated.

Like I said, I really don't care that much, but give the guy credit. It was more than an off-hand comment is was a condemnation.

Actually, yeah, kinda. The alternative was to start handing out official warnings for unnecessary aggression on the forums. The argument was getting pretty heated. I can quote you, if you want?

But instead I figured everyone would prefer if I officially ended the discussion in a way that let everyone know it was not to be continued. Which ultimately backfired when you then started bitching about having the initial discussion removed.

Sure you have to go through qualifying. A testament to his dominance he could accomplish that without being fully engaged unlike most of his competition gunning for him. But that also raised doubts whether he could retain that edge if he clearly had grown to dislike his craft. And it's not like people haven't crapped the bed after qualifying for the Olympics. Whatever, I give the credit now, but I stand by being underwhelmed by him in the early going.
