I was at Gamestop yesterday and they had a copy of X-Men on the Genesis and i bought it.

What a coincidence.

X-Men on the Genesis was the first game I ever purchased. The premise is that the Danger Room has been infected by a virus, forcing the team to play through various scenarios with the "safety controls" off. So at the end of Mojo's stage, the player is presented with a screen filled with computer terminals, and one of them flashes "RESET". The player then literally and narratively reboots the system, eliminating the virus. This kind of blew my mind as a 9-year-old kid. I remember thinking, "Whaaaa? Video games can do that?!"

Ahh, I wish i could've seen Jeff when he came to Reno. That would be the best celebrity spotting of my life lol.

I wonder why Jeff and Brad talked highly of Odyssey when they kind of just stopped playing the game after the main story. I felt the same way, and didn't really want to continue getting moons, and didn't like how the challenge was backloaded. So, I kind of found the game to be a boring collectathon with some interesting moments. I feel like I'm continually crucified for this opinion, but it seems pretty common.

I'm gonna give that Eminem album a shot, see how well this new leaf burns.

I'm surprised Rorie is the only one who actually likes Hollow Knight to some degree. It's arguably one of the best games of that type since SotN, and easily my favorite game of last year. Everyone else is so dismissive of it, blows my mind.

Team Cherry did an incredible job with that one, except for the in game vsync which adds a crazy amount of input lag. If anyone grabbed it during the sale and think it feels off, experiment with that. Control response really matters in that game, especially in the tougher sections.

Demon Ben is a fantastic moment.

Glad to see Rorie on the bombcast. In regards to them briefly discussing the deliberations for game of the year here... for years I used to enjoy listening to how they arrived at their decisions, but for some reason this year it rubbed me the wrong way. Just something about the crew being extremely reductive about these amazing works of art, and yet the resulting list in the end isn't anything necessarily I'm surprised about. I don't know, maybe I'll enjoy it more the next time they do this at the end of 2018.

@subscryber: Hmm, maybe they just really enjoyed the run to the story credits? It might be hard for them to articulate why, maybe.

As for the tangent of difficulty in the latest Mario and Zelda games... I don't know if this holds any water out in reality, but I assume that Nintendo is concerned with everyone who they believe is the wide audience of those two series to be able to reach a satisfying and definitive end to the latest games.

Thus, we have Mario back loading its most demanding precision platforming in its post-game and Zelda having it's main story stuff being rather easy compared to killing a Lynel.

Curious observation that I gleaned from some other comment is the lack of difficulty levels in some of Nintendo's big games. Mario is explained by level design being the difficulty level, but Zelda doesn't have selectable difficulty levels (unless you buy them).

A new bombcast? Hell yeah!
