I remember seeing that facebook thing with "Go Beyond Death" winning as a tagline. I also remember not really minding it as I thought they were all kind of bad. I agree that they should have just stuck with Prepare to Die, it had really stuck in people's mind at that point.
Cool shoutouts to EnB (Epic Name Bro) Marcus. Dude was super passionate/supportive of the Souls' games on his Youtube channel. Also, all that covenant talk got me all hot and bothered.
Hearing the talk about "Soul History" made me less hesitant about how invasions will work this time around. Generally the more I hear about Dark Souls 2 the more relieved I am.
Also interested in what From Software's idea of incorporating "role playing" into their game means. It's a nebulous term to begin with, and it makes me wonder what exactly they mean by it.
@oldirtybearon: I took that as being a little more narrative specific with the player character. It might not be as vague and general as it has been in the other games. While I'm not expecting "Commander Shepard" treatment, I wouldn't be surprised if the player protagonist has a more definitive presence.
That was a super entertaining, if slightly uninformative interview! Can't wait for the video thing to start in and hour and see what's what.
God, I am so excited for this game to launch. Dark Souls is easily my most favourite game of the last console generation, at the moment. I'm hoping beyond hope that this can top it.
Appreciate the effort but man this interview was about as vague as you can get. Dat Corporate Speak.
Does Giant Bomb release views stats on their videos? There has been so much Souls coverage lately, I'm wondering if LOLS didn't set an all time high for viewership. Not that I mind, the more Souls the better!
@thiago123: Well, the non-premium videos will always get more views than the premium videos. But Jeff said on his Tumblr that the LOLS videos got a ton of new subscribers for the site, so they were really popular. And no, they don't release those kind of stats (no one does, and that's for a reason).
And I wouldn't say that there was a lot of corporate speak going on here. Sure, he couldn't say a date on the PC version, but this guy at least talked like a real human being. The "what do you think about the tagline" stuff was so far removed from what you normally hear in these kinds of interviews that it was almost shocking.
1. This has been my favorite dumptruck yet, no offense to Patrick :P
2. I seriously hope the "pc players not getting cheated" comment hints at dlc that will be dropped day and date with console. Or at the very least means day and date release for main game >.<

Yea that's what I figured too, that there was a lot of conversion to paid memberships because of those videos. As far as the view numbers, I guess that's true, but I wouldn't say "no one does" considering many websites run video hosting through youtube which keeps a clear number of views stat. I understand that even that number is vague on what it actually means (unique viewers, etc), just wondering that's all.

You are right that the tagline discussion was out of character for a PR guy, but that has nothing to do with the game. Anytime the discussion turned to the game itself it was just a bunch of vagueries (is that a word?) and rehearsed answers. The dude makes it sound natural, but you better believe he has used that "not more difficult, but better" answer with a we're-just-friends-talking tone 1,000 times. I understand it's the dude's job and Brad made it clear in the introduction that it was vague, but I'm not going to say that it was informative or interesting. Still, souls coverage is better than no souls coverage.
