I honestly haven't cared about Half Life 3 for at least 4 years, I too would rather see some new IP from Valve.

That was an incredible episode! Really fascinating right from the start with some more reflection on the gaming media market and GB staff changes. I'm glad you took some time to properly give respect to Dave's outstanding work. The final moments of this one were very relatable and insightful - which I practically expect from Jar Time at this point.

This feature continues to be excellent, damn great stuff!

I think Nintendo not showing a conference at E3 is a bit 'spoil sport'. They obviously realise having a next gen. will point out the flaws in their system, but it's a gaming main event, they should show in the spirit of the industry. They had a clean shot last year and failed. MS and Sony's turn now!

I miss Dave, he's a cool duder. I'm kind of scared that they don't own giant bomb anymore, what if they get a crazy boss/bosses that are like "we want to impose our dominance fire those guys, we'll find better ones".

I'm sure that won't happen but you never know, I love giant bomb hope it only changes to very good.

Half Life 3 just feels like a running joke among the gaming community at this point, not an actual anticipated game. I loved the old Half Life games, but I'm in no way caring about it being released. It's more just funny at this point that it was left on a cliffhanger and completely dropped.

And really, I have trust in Valve to make great games, but it would be tough for them. Half Life came out and invented the idea of a cinematic, story-driven shooter, told from the first person perspective. But there have been a ton of games that have done that since, and in comparison old Half Life looks like a kind of clunky innovator. Portal 2 shows they can meet expectations, but they're way higher here, and what was new about the original Portal wasn't repeated in dozens of games before the sequel.

Exactly - they don't have to reinvent the wheel or anything - just finish the story, same characters, same gameplay whatever - just get it done and get it out I am sure it will be pretty good. It looks terrible to make a game which just ends on a cliffhanger and......

Hey Jeff, I just want to say thanks for giving an honest, inside glimpse into whats going on. I have been pretty critical of you and a few of the segments recently and I would like to apologize for being too much of a jerk, if I was. You guys are working hard to provide the best experience you can and some weeks/days/months are clearly been tough to have to energy to output as much as you'd like.

Anyway, thanks and sorry, I guess. I do appreciate the goals you have with the site and the effort you guys give. I'll try and do my best not to be a douche when I don't necessarily love something on the site.

Finally, I will definitely miss Dave. Best of luck to him and hope to eventually see him again on the site.

@adrian79: I think the same thing.

I think Half Life 3 needs to exist for the simple fact that Episode 2 ends in a cliffhanger. It's one thing to put a series into hiatus once it reaches some sort of conclusion. For example, Portal 2 has a very satisfying conclusion and if they choose that to be the end of the series, so be it. Half Life, on the other hand, isn't that at all. The end of Episode 2 begs you to ask what happens next. And the maddening thing is over 5 years later, we still don't know.

As for expectations being too high, I agreed with that a couple years ago. However, at this point, I'd almost say it's probably getting back to normal. I'd imagine lot of folks have moved on, especially in this last year or 2. Personally, I think these people are still going to be excited to see the next HL, but I don't know how many would get overhyped again.

Wow. This Jar episode went down a really weird hole that basically ended with Jeff confronting his shadow and accepting it as part of himself.

This is why I have been watching Jeff for ages, you can relate to the guy, he's believable and when he talks you actually want to listen. Thanks for being you sir.
