I think what I love most about this feature aside from the Vinny Dark Souls antics is that now the website can get super hyped for Dark Souls 2. I remember only Vinny carrying the torch when Dark Souls 1 came out.

I never finished Dark Souls, but I tuned into enough of the first episode of Load Our Last Souls to know that Vinny is farther than I ever got. So every time one of these is posted I debate whether or not I should watch it. Maybe I should just be a man and go back and finish Dark Souls.

I want to clean up in Vinny's inventory so bad. Toss out all the trash, box all the unique gear and Boss souls, it's driving me slightly nuts :P

As someone that never wants to play Dark Souls, these have been super fun to watch.

I hope that they convince Vinny to get the DLC. It's by far the best parts of what can be done in his current run.

People who tell others to experiment and play aggressively usually play super conservatively themselves.

Fun episode, despite not liking when Rorie and Ian keep being facetious. I know they don't want to tell Vinny exactly what to do, but the pretending you don't know something, then saying it in a way that it almost teasing that you know exactly what to do is super annoying.

What's really great about this feature is that it's completely different from just about every other big Dark Souls videos you'll find anywhere else. Every piece of video I've seen from Dark Souls has been from people who are excellent, know exactly what they're doing, and rarely fail. Either that, or they're tutorials. With Vinny he's just playing it how Vinny plays it, and so it's much more relatable. He makes seemingly benign things like enemies leashing back into their agro range something incredibly funny. As Rorie always says, he's a special kind of person.

Oho, looks like that guy might've dropped something. I wonder what that does.

What I don't really get is why they kept discouraging him from Kindling bonfires. Vinny, God bless him and all, plays super sloppy sometimes, and him going through the rest of this game with 5 or 10 Estus flasks is not going to cut it with his playstyle.

Yeah, that stuff's a bit hard to deal with. Vinny's pretty rapidly getting past the bits that I have personally played through, though, so probably not going to have to worry about it. I dealt with this a lot during my stream (people warned me just before Seath to put the ring on that saves your soul count when you die, which was a pretty big giveaway), so I'm pretty sensitive to it, but it'll get better as it goes along.

@foxmulder: @marokai: Sorry I'm trying to be less facetious, I really just want to give Vinny straight hints, but when I do that people start getting angry. Its a hard balance trying to keep the show on some sort of track so we aren't spending 30 minutes doing nothing, and also not being an asshole. Trying to get better at it.

Also the kindling thing is because Vinny has almost no humanity, so being conservative with it prevents us from having to farm on camera. Unless he decides to do some farming off camera.

Hey guys I really love this content! Its been quite a while since I played Dark Souls, and this is getting me super excited for Dark Souls 2 in march! Vinny's doing awesome imo, strength seems like a fun build. I went more magic and pyro last time, but thinking about a different style for next time.

I don't know about that. The people who ask Vinny to do those things have most likely played through the game and know that there are several different playstyles that work.

You know, this feature has really given me a new appreciation for Dark Souls. To be clear, I still probably will never play it, simply because I know I do not at all have the patience for it but I've always kind of dismissed as some sort of weird masochist game for crazy people. But one of my absolute favorite things about watching this series (besides Vinny being Vinny) is just seeing this crazy world that the game has created and all the insane, creepy enemy designs. The way all the areas bleed into each other is so impressive and really makes it seem like this giant, living, breathing world. I just want to walk around it and see all the horrible, horrible shit.

It actually has me thinking that I should maybe try Dark Souls 2 when it comes out.

In everybody's defense, Vinny's yet to run out of estus and still need more of it. Death in Dark Souls is usually because of a lethal mistake: A death by a million papercuts does happen but it's less common. Besides, those bonfires were kind of useless and Vinny only had 2 solid humanities left. They're far better used for the next one before the caves.

I think they're doing a great job of enabling Vinny, considering that they're avoiding pre-planning: doing so would take time and might jeopardize the spontaneous nature of these things that make them so interesting to begin with. The only regret here is the plodding to come in the near-future in the eventual form of the Lost Izalith: It's going to be a harder section to keep everybody interested (and motivated).

Speaking of, does anybody know if Vinny has done the painted world in his run? I don't think anybody has asked, and I don't think I saw any evidence of it either. Rorie spoke of going there for some souls grinding, and Ian spoke about having to activate the warp to its bonfire ever since a certain patch number, but Vinny didn't particularly acknowledge actually having run thru the place. In fact, I'm curious if he ever found the Great Hollow and Ash Lake areas too.

Witnessing the "Dance of the Trident Fairy" reminded me why I love this site so much.

That's definitely what I love about the franchise. It's not necessarily about being difficult, it's about preserving the atmosphere of dread and hopelessness to the best that it can, even if it means kicking your ass along the way and forcing you to learn on your own terms.

It's the kind of experience that a lot of other franchises are losing by becoming more "videogame-y" and by holding your hand more. The Dark Souls universe just doesn't care if you can't cope with its rules, and that's really refreshing in an odd sort of way.

Loving these, Vinny's MST3K-ing is so good.

Vinny dancing with the Trident in front of a charging Taurus Demon has to be one of my favourite Giant Bomb moments.

I beat Dark Souls for the first time! WOOOOO! Just had to tell somebody. I got into it again about a week before this series started, after having given up on it almost a year ago. Vinny was basically exactly where I was when the first part went up (just got the lordvessel), so it's been awesome to sort of play through parts of the game and then see him do what I just did. Everything since Smough and Ornstein has been pretty easy for me though, honestly, so it's hard to understand why Vinny is having so much trouble. Maybe because he has not discovered the awesomeness that is the silver knight spear =P
