I enjoy Rorie's ridiculous justifications.

"Well, some people beat this game at level 1, so..."

"Never been a game with a perfect camera, but I know it's better than Ninja Gaiden's..."

Maybe he was referring to Ninja Gaiden 2's fixed camera, which I also don't find myself liking too much.

I was definitely referring to NG2. I mean, NG1 had a camera that they had to try and fix in Sigma, and then they put out NG2 which somehow had an even worse camera than NG1 did at launch. A lot of that was from putting whats his face in a bunch of narrow corridors, though.

I honestly don't mind the camera in Dark Souls, though.

This was easily my favorite installment of LOLS, but I really hope Vinny actually uses his shield in the future. So many of those deaths could've been prevented by just blocking.

If he's going to two-hand with a shield always on his back, though, he could at least throw a shield on his back with a permanent effect, such as Sanctus' permanent health regen, or the Grass shield's stamina buff.

"How would you know that there is a thing back here?"

It's really simple: Dark Souls is a game of exploration. If you don't like exploring, you probably miss a lot of content.

Don't even try to justify this crap. I love Dark Souls but this is such a stupid thing to do to get to some dlc.

Yep. Especially the mantrain of gardeners he pulled across the bridge. Perfect setup to mow them down if he just used his shield between swings, instead of a mad dash to (barely) safety.

USE YOUR SHIELD, VINNY! (or use one that gives a buff)

I'm still stunned how easily he downed the Sanctuary Guardian. I was convinced he'd have more trouble then that. Myself and everyone in the chat are never not amazed at his absurd power.

It's because he's massively over leveled for the area and he has a maxed out weapon. I walked into the DLC area at soul level 38 and I was smacking the Sanctuary Guardian for like 100 dmg a pop. Vinny was hitting the dude for like 400-500 a hit.

Sanctuary Guardian was smacking him around a good deal and was dealing a good amount of damage, but Vinny has Estus. A longer drawn out fight would have resulted in Vinny's death.

Artorias will be a really interesting fight because he'll kill Vinny in a few hits, but it looks like Vinny has the power to do the same to him.

Yeah, I was never super hardcore into Dark Souls despite finishing it, but Vinny has been at a much higher level than I was during some of these battles.

Which is totally fine. He doesn't have the finesse (he kind of just goes in head-on, which looks like the reason he has trouble with regular enemies sometimes), but he makes up for it in brute strength.

Can't wait until he gets to the end!

coming to someone knowing almost inch of the game. watching Vinny following all these "ehh maybe this and that, not sure" information is driving me nuts.

And c'om guys. Vinny wanted to try lighter gears and faster attack speed. And you guys still recommended him a slightly lighted Heavy plate armor and some of the slowest 2handers weapon to him. He never even got to swing a sword that was meant to be used 1handed

I'll wait for tomorrow to watch, this part for me was tough bc I was running this DLC on NG+3 so I was stuck on the first boss for around 2 hours.
It's a beast of a DLC, I love it.

I mean this in a lighthearted, ribbing way, but it is adorable that Vinny decides to change his armour and weapon, as if he's not already BARELY scraping by with the (quite good) Black Knight Halberd that he is accustomed to, plus he has really gotten used to just tanking damage while wearing Havel's.

It's just really funny that he keeps overestimating his own ability to adapt/be amazing at the game, and thinks he can just switch weapons no problem when he's already out of practice and kinda devil-may-care when it comes to avoiding hits (for example, even with a bad weapon, there's no reason Vinny had to die to those skeletons at the start of the Duke's Archives).

It just seems like he's gotten used to being crazy over-leveled with a good weapon that just one-shots everything, so he has no idea when it's safe to attack. He'll attack when he knows he has enough time to deal damage, but doesn't really worry about whether he'll get counterattacked. Once he changed weapons, he seemed at a constant loss every time he would hit an enemy with a strong attack and the fight wasn't immediately over.

Pretty much. I said this on the stream but I'll just say it again, "Vinny's play style has started to catch up with him in the last few videos."

To be fair, I copied Vinny's stats for my character and I haven't had many problems. Vinny's issues (the non bad sense of direction thing) mainly lie in him hesitating to attack or constantly thinking every enemy can be backstabbed (which causes him to always move to the enemy's back which allows other enemies to F him up). I wonder if he knows about dealing more damage to staggered enemies and that them bouncing off his shields counts as them being staggered.

Trust the chat to vote for the weapon with the most penile name.

And to only think Vinny could have been rolling around with an all around superior Zweihander.

It looked like he was barely handling that Zweihander though.

Everyone keeps saying that Vinnie should have taken the claymore or Zweihander, without considering that his stats are 40 strength and 18 dex, which means that the strength based man serpant is by far the better choice, and scales at A.

I play far to much Dark Souls and so whilst I love seeing this is being played, the often false 'advice' by Ian and Rorie drive me nutty.

Rorie please note, whilst you've updated the weapons, you have never updated any armour (in your own and Vinny's play through). There are far better armours available that are better than havels, gold hemmed, Vinny's current set etc once they are upgraded.

I'm largely joking around :P

Watching Vinny use weapons other then the ones I personally appreciate is actually more fun then if he used the stuff I myself used.

I think this would be better if the co-pilots either didn't know anything about Dark Souls or knew more about Dark Souls. Its a strange dance that alternates between giving Vinny half baked advice, and weird passive aggression between Rorie and Ian regarding whether or not they should tell him this thing or that.

Great feature, I just wish it was less play-by-committee. I know Vinny needs the guidance, but maybe just save it for when he actually asks for it?

I enjoy the series too, but their stance from the start has been no help unless Vinny asks for it. But then pretty much every episode they either hint at stuff Vinny should do or just straight up suggest what he should do. Even little things like reminding Vinny to heal, rest, or other suggestions kind of ruin the spontaneity and Vinny learning from mistakes that this series should be.

It's really simple: Dark Souls is a game of exploration. If you don't like exploring, you probably miss a lot of content.

Are you supposed to just know to reload the game as well? Come on, it's done badly.

It's simple. On a normal playthrough, the area around the hydra would have been cleared and Dusk would have been freed hours ago. You get the amulet with a hint to dusk, so you probably wan to ask dusk about it. So scout "her" area.

A reload isn't required. A simple rest between freeing dusk and aquiring the amulet is sufficent. (which you basically do automatically).

It just requires the will to explore and some thinking. It might not be a good solution for those "quick, quick where is the content?" gamers nowadays, but I like it.

I don't get how Vinny easily beats some of the hardest bosses in the game, then gets his ass handed to him by pathetic enemies like the sanctuary guardian.

I'm not buying it. How would you know where to find the amulet if you already cleared Duke's Archives? Even if you went back there randomly not everyone would kill the golem again.

Well, sorry if I sounded like a dick; I was a little tipsy last night. Keep in mind that I don't edit my own page nor am I responsible for what people say about me on here. In the end there was a reason I was credited as a producer on both AP and FNV, so saying that I was just doing PR sounded pretty dismissive. If you're ever curious about what I did at Obsidian feel free to ask.

Fun fact.

The Undead Parish Church is it's own object, it's not actually part of the world geometry. Some smart alec with the Cheat Engine on PC made Chameleon disguise him AS THE CHURCH.

It crashed the game shortly thereafter.

I think my time playing a raid tank in WoW really helped me with handling rooms of enemies. My first time through the Duke's Archives I instinctively pulled the crystal guys one at a time and got out of the line of sight of the archer.

My combination of Tanking in MMO's and Solo hunting in Monster Hunter really prepared me for Dark Souls to the point that I felt the game was a natural fit to my play style, unlike someone like Jeff who wants to mash X/Square as fast as he can until the thingy dies.

Vinny handles large groups of enemies pretty well though. I would have loved to see Vinny on some of the earlier parts of Dark Souls like Smough or Sen's Fortress.
