But let's be honest, this series was really an Endurance Run that was started in the middle.

Second time I've popped into one of these videos and they mentioned that compilation/highlight someone did/is doing... but where is said video(s). Anyone know of what they speak of? A quick google search finds nothing :( Glance at the forums also sees nothing.

VaatiVidya's youtube series does a good job of extrapolating a lot of the lore into something resembling a narrative thread.

Gratz Vinny on finishing Dark Souls and being a man about it (most of the way). While I agree that half the fun is invading and summoning allies, you played the game like a real man and didn't let anyone get in the way of your path of destruction through Lordrann. Hope to see Load our Last Souls 2 in March!

Man, I really wish that he shot an arrow at the Gwynevere illusion, one of the coolest parts of the game.

I'm with Vinny. The story in this game makes no fucking sense. If the fire was going out, why would Gwyn want to kill you? Wouldn't he want you to take his place and keep fueling the fire? Like, what? What even.

You'll notice killing the lady didn't give you any souls I think.

The fire going out causes Gwyn to go insane basically. He's a Hollow for all intents and purposes.

@the_nubster: I believe the implication is that Gwyn is basically a shadow of his former self. Dying and insane. Kind of like how undead eventually just become insane and murderous after a few thousand years of being unable to die. Many of the enemies, like Havel, were once good people even after going undead, but eventually they go hollow and just turn into monsters. Dark Souls gives no hint as to how long Gwyn artificially prolonged the Age of Fire by rekindling the first flame.

There's also debate as to whether artificially prolonging the Age of Fire is even a good thing. I mean, the state of the world of Dark Souls is pretty awful when you get there. Everyone who's not insane or hollow is chronically depressed. Anor Londo only looks kind of ok because of Gwyndolin's illusion. Some characters state that rekindling the First Flame will end the curse of the undead, but I'm not sure that's true, considering it's the bonfires that keep the undead alive.

And to be fair, I had to get most of this context from lore videos on youtube because I would have missed most of the characters and item descriptions that hint a lot of this.

Seriously, this series has been some of the best content on this site, and this episode (that ending!) was the perfect way to send it off. Thanks for everything, Vinny, Ian, Rorie, and Drew.

This is the correct ending.

This video is pretty much exactly what I wanted it to be. Vinny poise-tanking the final boss and making it look like a joke in the process.

All those non-believers claiming Vinny will have to learn parrying, that our Dark Lord won't be able to use his trusted techniques on Gwyn - never doubt a mans power..within.

I loved watching Vinny play through Dark Souls, and this was the perfect way to end it.

Weird that the 360 pad isn't working for Rorie in FF8. I've been playing that this past week or so and it's been fine (nearly finished the game again to).

I guess I can stick this here too, right? I made a thing for Vinny it is about Dark Souls I hope people besides me like it

Man, I can't believe this has ended. I simultaneously want to and don't want to watch this last episode. :(

@rorie @vinny I don't know if anyone has mentioned this since recording but Vinny should look into the wiki for Dragon's Dogma, that game that came out about a year after Dark Souls that was pretty similar but ultimately less popular. At the end of the game, you beat a boss and if you play a NG+, the end boss is yourself.

What a series, what a perfect ending. I hope vinny is interested enough to go and watch one of ENB or VV's lore videos. I think it would be nice prep for Dark Souls 2.

I really wish Dark Souls 2 would have Vinny as the final boss.

Hopefully Vinny, Rorie, and Ian do this again for Dark Souls 2.
