Mass Alex: Mass Effect 3 - Part 14

The Ereba and Charr side stuff is one of the smaller but more impactful nuggets of fetchquests with a surprising amount of emotion behind it.

Some real good shit amongst the busywork

@anbilow: Honestly if in the far flung future if we’re not referring to everything as E this and Space that then we as a civilization really have dropped the ball along the trajectory of progress.

Bailey's voice actor, Michael Hogan was Saul Tigh on Battlestar Galactica and yes he's old.

I guess it doesn't matter very much, but I'm surprised Alex still doesn't know how to exhaust NPC dialogue on the citadel.

I'm so sad they missed the first half of that Conrad Verner sequence. The quest design misleads them so badly. Alex even had all the obscure collectibles from ME1 to get Conrad's war asset.

Tonally, just a completely jumble. Telling relatives their loved ones are dead, a marriage proposal, a big "NOOOOOOOOOO!" jump-in-front-of-a-bullet, eavesdropping on conversation and dropping off cultural relics like you're a UPS delivery truck, Joker getting relationship advice for a robot, pulling the plug on someone..... just a thousand different directions that sort of cancel each other out.

I love Mass Effect, but ME3 for me never really hit the "The Universe is Ending" feeling that it was supposed to. It doesn't have to be like grimdark or anything, but the highs (Tuchanka, other stuff coming up), are canceled out by the stupid eavesdropping and dropping stuff off and other busywork.

In reference to what is said, the C-sec chief's VA is the actor who played the alcoholic XO from the BSG remake, Saul Tigh. He is also General Tullius in Skyrim. Michael Hogan is 70 years old.

E-CRIMES!

MARRIAGE!

DINOSAURS!

Then Miranda's giant butt shot and Conrad's sacrifice.

What an eventful day. Mass Effect 3 rules. But this just goes to show how insane a Citadel Cop game could be (though I'll still take the eventual ME Tactics game).

just FYI if you're the type to do this, don't look up stuff on the PTSD Asari's story cuz there's some word of god stuff that makes it even more of a bummer than it already is.

IMO those are the charming things that make Mass Effect Mass Effect. Also, granted I've only played this game once and it was years ago, but isn't like a huge bulk of the stuff in this episode completely optional and missable? If you stick solely to the main quest line you might not get every single little upgrade or achievement but the story plays out more straight.

@garwalk: I played this game as if the Universe was ending, just going from main plot point to main plot point, which is probably why I don't remember most of it.

Surprised it took Alex this long to comment on how old the VO for the C-Sec officer sounds. The actor, Michael Hogan of BSG fame, was probably double the age that officer is supposed to be when he recorded those lines. Such a weird fit, especially when everyone in ME3 looks inexplicable younger than in the first game.

I hate that you can complete the Conrad quest before ever talking to him. I don't know if that's a bug or just a design miss on the quest, but he has some great fourth wall breaking dialog they missed out on as well as even more payoff to random ME1 quests.

As far as when not to do stuff, the Anderson thing you're clear to do after you meet Tali again for reasons I'm not gonna say but that everyone will appreciate, but then after the mission it's a little different.

You unlock an extra bit of content with lots of fun stuff that spices up return trips to the citadel, but also you unlock the ability to do something particularly special that you'll know when you get there. For THAT you want to not do that until all of your surviving friends from ME2 who don't join your squad are on your list of War Assets, basically.

So yeah, main mission you want to have met Tali again, post mission bonus thing you want to have all of your old party's contact info on file. It's actually alot of fun to have the extra dlc content stuff available during the second half of the game because it really spices things up as you're winding down the trilogy.

And the other dlc thing to meet that other guy....as long as you don't do it all at once, you can spread it out during the game and not mess anything up. Though the final part of that DLC is best done right at the end, too. It works either doing it all at the end or doing parts of it as you go through the whole game.

"Oh come on, that's not the Renegade Option." It kind of is. Paragon and Renegade aren't SUPPOSED to be good/nice vs bad/mean. It's supposed to be about ethical priorities and grey areas, to the point where alot of the best moments of dialog decisions in the series are where you have multiple paragon and renegade options that all feel valid in different ways.

Kelly Chambers only appears in Mass Effect 3 if you developed her friendship enough in ME2 to have dinner with her (don't need to fully romance her though). Since Alex didn't get her help with the fish, I'm pretty sure he didn't get that scene either, therefore she would never show up in ME3.

Her dialogue in Mass Effect 3, If she does appear, mentions that originally she had the job of spying on the Normandy Crew but she had a change of heart about Cerberus (choosing to believe Shepard over the Illusive Man) and defected after the Suicide Mission. The implication being that if you don't develop her friendship enough, she continues working for the Illusive Man in Mass Effect 3.

Bioware playing up the specieism as racism is starting to wear a little thin.

The themes are interesting but the writing and messaging are all over the place much like the other ME games.

I do appreciate the Conrad interaction as I totally missed him in my playthrough.
