Peace Day?

oh boy I can't wait for Drew's reaction

[edit] god dammit dan, body shots (or leg shots if the dude has body armor) work like a charm with the tranq gun--silently! this'll be super fun to see unfold

Drew keeps making these missions too hard for him by constantly starting at 0600. It's really painful to watch, because he's actually being pretty careful and getting better at stealth. He'd probably not set off nearly as many alarms if he just started at 1800.

@triumvir: I did most of the missions at night with the sneaking suit, and that combo makes stealth soooo much easier.

Does anyone else find this game boring to watch? Whereas the other metal gear scanlons were like watching insane anime translated to video game this just feels like watching someone play a shooter style third person game.

Same here, and hostiles with NV goggle are the first to go. They are not that hard to handle, actually snipers are more pain in the ass.

I advise anyone that is sensitive to violence against horses to uh...maybe skip this one.

I will also say there is some great gif potential in this one.

Also, every time Drew asks Dan if he's done or seen something I keep thinking of this:

Camo fanboy here. Drew would have sailed through that mission if he'd been using camo instead of the sneaking suit...

Also, wow, totally didn't see that cutscene at all when I played this. Thanks metal gear scanlon!

@stanleynipple: I don't, but that's because I really enjoy watching Drew play through the Metal Gear games, not just seeing his reaction to the story (although I love that too, obviously)

I'm pretty good at the stealth in Metal Gear games and rarely get caught, normally not killing anyone. I can't get Big Boss emblems, but still. Watching Drew go balls out full lethal murderfest through the series has been a really interesting experience since it shows a side of the games I rarely get to see.

The thing with these open world games with so many systems to exploit is the more you micromanage and fully explore each system the more you lower the actual challenge of playing the game. I died a whole lot in my playthrough because I purposely handicapped myself, but the feeling of barely scrapping through a mission using your wits and guile alone is amazing. What am I saying is can people stop complaining about camo/time of day/stun timers, etc.

The sneaking suit is bad during the day. That mission would have gone much smoother in the beginning with proper camo or if he had gone at night.

This scenario has happened on every episode of Metal Gear Scanlon so far this season. Drew could probably get away with the sneaking suit during the day if he was actually sneaking, but walking around in the open in broad daylight is just asking to get spotted.

I hope he figures this out pretty soon and starts doing some missions at night, since I don't think he is ever going to use anything except the sneaking suit.

Not to backseat game, but I think a crucial concept you might be missing is that you are pretty much invisible when you're crawling, no matter what camo you have or what time of day it is. Crawling is OP. Crawling makes stealth in this game much easier. The time you lose by going slowly crawling is less than the time you lose replaying the game because you got caught up in a bad alert.

Also, keep in mind that any time you can CQC slam, you can also grab. So like when that dude was coming around the corner in the beginning of the video? that would've been a perfect time to grab the dude and interrogate him while nobody's watching. I rarely slam in this game anyway, because the stun is so short. Dan plays this game kinda weird.

lmfao Dan is possibly the worst person to have as your guide for this

no problem micromanaging Drew with spending his resources and upgrades but as soon as Jason wants to show him the cool thing that Drew will absolutely not find on his own, "woah woah woah lets let him play how he wants"

I can't believe I spent 40 hours in this game without knowing that cutscene existed because I didn't fully explore my empty ass base. Wtf.

I'm wondering if there is a bad advice left for Dan to give Drew that would hamper his progress more. Drews playstyle is so wrong for all this Rambo fantasies and it's getting really disappointing watching Dan play trough Drew.

Ugh. Drew would pat down every goddamn guard in MGS3 and waste 10 seconds to pick them up and put them down to get ammo he didn't need, but why interrogate? That won't yield important info (or be fun)!

Aside from that, I've mostly accepted that Drew will play differently than I do. Wrong? Arguably, but not objectively.

This might kick off a miniature flame war, but I have to say that what story there is in MGSV is so much better directed and performed than in any previous entry. There is such nuance and intricate staging on display in the Paz scene (even though it involves removing a vagina bomb). Sutherland performs his few lines with world-weary gravity, while this scene with David Hayter would probably devolve into him growling "Amnesia??" and "Peace Day??" etc. every ten seconds. And Troy Baker as Ocelot expresses such concern and empathy towards Paz's condition, showing much more range than previous games where Ocelot rasps every line as an anime villain (except Snake Eater where instead he's a constantly snotty anime teen).

I really do applaud the maturation of Kojima and his cutscene team in this installment. "More story" does not equal "better story." It's much more cinematic to show you things, suggest things, and allow some things to be ambiguous... than to drown you in exposition.

Totally enjoying the "effectiveness" of Drews playstyle but I am a bit bummed that Dan or Jason never remind Drew about the tapes. He should at least listen to the yellow ones for some context what the hell is going on. Please?

Theres a HUGE difference between rubber bullets and tranquilizer darts in mgs. Darts don't set guards into alert and will slowly make them fall asleep. You can shoot a guard in the foot with a dart but if you do that with a rubber bullet they will recoil from the pain and be very angry.

I am really excited to see how Drew handles the ruins section near the start of the Emmerich side op he has available. I didn't expect it to be right then and there, but I saw the game hinting at it coming up so I researched and equipped a tranquilizer sniper rifle and it came in real handy.

Restrepo is outstanding; It's easily one of the best documentaries I've ever seen, and it easily would have won an Oscar if it didn't run into another outstanding documentary in the form of Inside Job.

I actually love facing NV equipped troops, as that means they aren't wearing helmets, riot gear or gas masks, so the effectiveness of non-lethal attacks goes through the roof. I'd take a base full of NV guards over helmet troops, snipers, or riot guards any day.

I thought the movie was very poor, not to stir up an argument, but the only real value of it was to show how confused can young soldiers be, not really knowing what they really figt for (soldiers of all nationalities of course). Opinions...

Yeah I dunno, I never used the Riot SMG, I just stuck with the pistol. That gun seems like hot garbage. I had a non-lethal assault rifle if things ever got hot.

Although eventually I got a silenced tranq sniper and basically never used anything else for the rest of the game.

Drew should totally: A) listen to more tapes B) start going in at night on missions that aren't huge in the first place that end up going to night time naturally. C) equip the NVG on his left item slot so when he press left on the dpad it will always go to his NVG (and not the box which is disorienting), which are useful during sandstorms as well as picking out a ton of things in the environment including diamonds, materials, items, guards, gun emplacements, exploding barrels, and more...basically anything interactable in the game is highlighted in "night vision" for instant recognition.

This is why I always chose the Wu pistol over the Riot when I was going for stealth. I think if you even miss a shot and hit next to an enemy he'll go into "being shot at" mode. You basically have to hit them in the head first try if you want to remain stealthy. For that reason, tranqs are so much more forgiving than stuns for stealthy play.

You can shoot an entire base in their feet, wait and they all fall asleep at the same time, it is insanely useful. In the middle of the game where you have to follow some commander dude to a meeting in Africa, I shot everyone at the meeting (about 10 dudes) and they all fell asleep and I could easily fulton everyone

Also, Drew and Dan please listen to tapes. PLEASE.

The Riot SMG is hot garbage, tranqs are way better (no alert on a miss, can shoot torsos/arms/legs for timed knockouts), and there are far better options/upgrades for tranq guns (both pistol and sniper) over most stun weapons.

I went the entire game without ever touching a rubber bullet firing weapon after discovering how shitty the SMG was.

WTF at that last segment, I've completed the story but never saw that! Does anyone ever give you some directions to go look for that or did you really have to stumble upon that one door by accident?
