I absolutely love how much the Metro games commit to in-world UI. This looks neat.

Man, I know these games aren't great, but I've really enjoyed my time with them. I'm gonna be grabbing this one soon. The attention to detail on equipment and in animation is just really cool.

I mean, yeah, holding a button to break down a weapon into its component materials is very video gamey and super dumb. This looks like it walks the line between reasonable simulation and convenience for the sake of gameplay.

Only just started the winter part of the game. I really like it so far despite a few issues. Easily, and already my favorite game of the year so far. I hope it keeps up.

I used to enjoy the Metro games - then Russia became more of an asshole to its bordering countries in real life, so Metro is not really the 'escape' I seek anymore. It's more of a reality that's weirdly getting closer and closer by the day, sans mutants.

Artyom is basically a wasteland Batman, sneak in the shadows, kill all lights and pick off stragglers. A direct fight is never gonna be fun in Metro games.

Loved 2033 and Last Light(as well as all of the books), can't wait to play this one.

Some people need to learn to separate Art and Politics....and assuming one entity represents an entire country.

Something about the structure of this, combined with the physical map and action debilitating mechanics of the Metro certainly reminds me of FC2.

Especially going into that small safe-house and resting as the time of day speeds by.

I love the idea of a one year journey through Russia. That sounds fun. Will pick this up later in the year, assuming you don't need prior knowledge of the series?

LOL, Sam is voiced by Steve Blum. He plays Russian characters all the time (he was even in previous Metro games doing a Russian accent) but for some reason he's just doing an American accent here?

I was kind of hoping the video would start with Dan driving the Quick Look and starting to complain about everything for like 10 seconds and then you get a new intro and it's actually Alex playing.

The russian accent is so weird. I think it's better to give the option of russian language or plain english. With the accecents it seems to me that they actually are speaking english in the story.

@reap3r160: No one debates the holodomor.

Millions of Ukrainians died in a planned famine.

The Soviet Union was a shit-stream of tyranical and vicious repression.

The gulags were real. Mass executions were real. The Soviet Union was a REAL.

A video game site isn't a typically good place to have these discussions, but seriously, this is holocaust level of denial-ism.

Selling it exclusively on Epic Game Store is just greedy to the point of being stupid. I'll buy it when it's on sale, just out of principle. Shit like this really rubs me the wrong way.

I don't know if "greedy" is the right word really. These people worked several years on the game and you can't fault them for trying to get the best return on their efforts. Maybe I'm looking at it from a specific viewpoint because as an illustrator I've put hours into certain illustrations and if Site A is going to take a 70% cut from the proceeds of my artwork and Site B is going to take a 40% cut but my fans will have to register for this new website then I will definitely go to the place that gives me a bigger cut, because it's my hard work. Is it slightly inconvenient for fans of the series? Sure no argument there. Is the Epic store a very basic launcher with minimal functionality compared to Steam that has been on the market for over a decade? Of course. Do you still get to play the game? Yah.

So hey if you're a fan, go buy it now. If you don't care, wait a year for it to get to Steam with all the patches and whatever other extra content they bolt on. Just understand that a developer trying to get as much money back from 2-3 years of investment isn't necessarily an evil or greedy move.

One important distinction, It was not the DEVELOPER of the Metro: Exodus that made the deal with EPIC games. It was the parent/sister company of THQNordic known as Koch Media. Koch owns the IP rights to Metro games.

https://twitter.com/THQNordic/status/1090217923434737664 <--Tweet from THQNordic about this situation.

I don't like EPIC buying up exclusivity as much as the next dude, but I also really don't want the Developers of Metro: Exodus to get shit on for something they had no control over.

Alex said on Twitter he wasn't really having a ton of fun with this game...I don't know man this seems pretty damn sweet to me. Granted I'm a big fan of Stalker and the previous Metro games. Won't be buying yet, as I have a lot to play still, but will definitely get it at some point.

I can absolutely understand that developers want profits back on investment. It's just basic economy and I would love to support 4A because I liked the previous Metro games a lot. But Epic basically bought the game and they have complete monopoly on the sales. Consumers have to deal with whatever Epic charges for the game now. I don't like the practice so I'm not supporting it. Instead, I'll be buying it when I feel like it's a good deal for me and not just Epic.

I’m so thankful for these quicklooks. Helped me see that this is definitely more Metro and not at all what I want. Solid skip for me. I’ve had enough horrendous English ‘russian’ accents from those games to last me a lifetime. Anyone else get annoyed when people compare Metro to STALKER?

It's unlikely that I would be buying it on Epic Store if it was also available on Steam. Steam allows other licensed retailers to sell keys and I'm always looking for the best deals when it comes to pre-order incentives on new games. Exclusive content, discounts or extra credit on stores or platforms I prefer. Free market capitalism. But Epic has no competition here, so they don't have to bother. And they haven't. It's just take it or leave it.

If publishers are just going to start selling their games in one single venue because they don't like the idea of splitting some of the revenue with other retailers, the end result is less competition and it doesn't benefit the consumer at all. Expect that some people like me will just wait until the price has gone down. I can afford to buy it now, but I'll wait until I feel good about it. Wait long enough and I might not even bother at all.

@tonybaloni: except that it really is? Between the purges, the gulags, "prison divisions", the Holodomor, and all the other tyrannical bullshit the USSR got into, they racked up a death toll that would make an SS officer sit up and take notice. I know that my family reunions would be a helluva lot more interesting now if it weren't for the USSR. Thanks Uncle Joe!

I don't know why people are arguing here about the USSR since I don't remember any of the old Metro games glorifying it. Metro's Communist faction were the primary antagonists in Last Light. These games are actually very critical of all the ideologies of the past that people still cling to in a world those same ideologies destroyed.

Is it the hat in the thumbnail that started this? You have to look at it in context. Melnik (why did they translate his name to English?) is an old broken man in a broken world. He was a soldier all his life. Military is all he knows. The hat is perhaps something that brings his mind back to a time when he was young and strong badass in the Red Army which gave purpose to his life. Young people are idealistic and hopeful so we feel nostalgic for things from the past as we get older and lose that spark.

As for the game, this definitely looks like my cup of tea. Getting a very strong STALKER vibe here. Mutants sometimes ran away when you killed enough of them in that game so seeing human enemies surrender here is a pretty nice touch. More games should have that. I always find it amusing to see a lowly henchman continue to try to kill the protagonist after seeing a dozen of his buddies killed right before his very eyes.

Will probably wait for this to come to Steam since I don't think my current PC will run it well anyway. Might get this on a console if I see a good deal since Eastern European games tend to be pretty buggy on consoles compered to PC in my experience.
