Jar Time w/ Jeff: No Holds Jarred - 04/30/2012

@MrCHUP0N: Unfortunately, I think Jeff's right about Rock Band; it's just not relevant anymore. I see Wii's set up at some bars here and there, but that's about it as far as social drinking & gaming go.

@Jeff: I don't find it that surprising when the Kinect actually does what I tell it to. I actually find it to work very well for just about anything that I throw at it. There was a learning curve in getting it set up, but controlling games The Gunstringer and voice commands for Netflix & HBO Go have worked wonderfully.

Speaking of HBO Go, that's most certainly going to change in the near future. I can't imagine that they aren't working towards selling it ala carte for people with iOS, 360s, Roku boxes, etc.

Gotta love the sweet new home the Skylanders found in that slick EA bag of all things. Perfect synergy ... or something like that. Damn, I've been down the "my audio drivers just broke without warning" one to many times and I just need to juggle games and in the grand scheme of things pretty standard media playback and no fancy recording business. At this point I'd probably be ready to just make a decently priced physical soundcard a standard PC component for me - if only that fixed all those fucking issues and figured out all the format conversions, sound levels and compatabilities on its own. But that extensive functionality a PC has just comes at a pretty steep price in how complicated it can get.

I'm starting to realize that I would not get along with Jeff in real life. He's an entertaining media personality, but it would be tough to put up with his ridiculous self-righteousness on a daily basis. It's like he can't even conceive he could be wrong about something.

That being said, I still watch these videos and give him my money voluntarily, so he must be doing something right.

if people still havent figured out how to go to a movie and enjoy themselves, then they and the gormless teenagers deserve each other.

first three showings or so, sunday morning, after a nice hot breakfast. and people need to get over the aversion to going to a movie alone. no one is going to make fun of you, it just frees you up from having to co-ordinate all your shit with a bunch of other people. no friend of mine was gonna go see Hugo with me so i went alone. it was one of the best theatre experiences ive had in years.

TL;DR: go to movies alone in the morning. its the best way to see a film in a theatre.

At about 1:14:00, while Jeff was wrapping up his mall food court story, I paused and thought "Wait, how long has it been since Jeff even read off a question from somebody?"

The fact that it took me so long to realize that means this video turned out alright.

I cannot even FATHOM the people who go into movie theaters and do nothing but talk and text on their phone. I hope to someday have enough disposable income to think "Man, I'm standing out HERE texting, when I COULD pay $10-15 and be in a dark ROOM texting!!"

Don't care about quests Jeff. Just keep rolling in the content. Great job adjusting.

Thanks for posting that. After seeing this I watched the whole series from Episode 1. It was hilarious!

I've never been able to get excited about Kinect-like camera peripherals. In my computer vision class circa 2005 I remember hearing repeatedly that computer vision research hasn't significantly advanced since the 80s. That makes me think it will continue to be pretty janky for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully Kinect will accelerate research in the field and make some waves.
