I'm surprised there was no mention at all of EVO 2012 on the latest Bombcast, so I'm glad it'll be discussed on 8-4. Also interested in hearing the Persona region lock discussion.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaayy. I came to the sad realization a few days ago that this podcast is every other week. But this is the week, so yaaaaaayy.

I love how they say like they'll go another 10 min then go another 30 min or so. Also the podcast seemed a little more relaxed and tangential which made for a bit more energetic and fun podcast.

It's crazy how Korea just came in and surprised everyone at EVO this year. It's always better for the scene when new competition drops in as it provides a higher bar of competition.

@FLStyle: But they talked about EVO at least a little bit last year, didn't they? Or wait, maybe that was 3 years ago...

But yeah, I was surprised even Drew didn't mention it when he was in the chat with us watching some of it. Guess they just don't care about it, like you said.

• Maybe like the 8-4 guys they had guys constantly saying, "You guy's don't know what you're talking about" and they got sick of it.
• Maybe they're down on video games compared to their fresh faced 2009 selves when Giant Bomb was first finding its footing.
• Maybe they bought into the sensationalistic articles of the Cross Assault incident and don't want to talk Fighting Game Community.
• Maybe if they talked about the other EVOs they'd just be repeating themselves so they're waiting on Jeff going for something more to talk about.

I like to think it's the last one, but you'd have to ask them to be sure.

That Resident Evil 6 demo also left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope it was just a poorly put together demo.

@mnzy: The above reasons apply for why Jeff didn't watch it as well. It's like general summaries (Read: guesses) of their attitudes towards it.

The Atlus thing is definitely weird. I can't imagine it being worth it considering the inevitable backlash they're getting. The people who love Atlus are the kind of people who would commonly import the niche titles from Japan in the first place. Of course they would resent the very idea of region locking.

They were open and honest about their reasons though, unlike any other publisher tasked with the same concerns. Unfortunatly, it's Europe who gets screwed out of this deal as usual. Atlus really aught to open an EU branch.

Here's hoping this sets no precedent either way.

Enjoyed the OUYA talk - It's a very exciting development. In a proper world, we don't build our computers and then set all sorts of arbitrary limits on what they can do for us.

100-200ms is very noticable for gaming. First person shooters (onlince obv.) 200 is pretty much the glass ceiling after which not only is the latency noticable it is in fact detrimental to how well you even perform. And these are games that have been on trying to minimise the impact of latency for years and years. Get past 300 and even MMO's can suffer. Anything requiring twitch reflexes will feel slightly less responsive at 100-200 (fighting games for example)

This shpiel that 100-200ms feels the same as playing on your own machine is nonsense (sorry to be harsh) them's the ropes. A. it is nowhere near LCD response time (8-16ms). B. it is an additional fifth of a second to the existing resopnse time of the hardware. Something under a 100 can maybe squeeze by as feeling the same. Ultimately however it is how far you are from the server and the nodes you have to go through (a lot of people in motropolitan areas can enjoy an under 50ms latecny to nearby servers)

Without fancy compression you would need at least a 4gigabit for a smooth 720p stream (which is why the compression tech is so important). However compression degrades image quality inevitably. And any connection hiccups or interupts will screw you over. And then you also get into regions where people have internet download caps.

Onlive had the same pitch. It's essentially trying to sell an always online (drm) gameplay very similar to what Diablo 3 does in terms of playing restrictions, only adding to that the outide processing needs and huge internet video traffic.

Certain people can get some use out of such systems, but it's so far a niche. It will however be interesting to see just how Sony uses it with or to help their existing digital infrastructure.

These 'gaming competition' events are retarded, why is this podcast even on GB, it is bad, very bad. No humor, annoying gamer girl, mediocre typical gaming podcast.

Another good podcast. They are at their best when Mark is away. They keep saying how awesome of a host he is but I think they've been fooled into thinking that dominating the conversation and saying fuck every 4 seconds = host of the year.

Hiroko, Alex, and Rob were pretty good. I hope the last two come back more often, especially Rob. He and Brad are like the only southerners I've ever heard associated with the gaming industry.
