Holy shit, so they Dark Soul'd Need for Speed? Hah! Rivals is actually one of the games I'm most excited for coming out of E3, and I haven't been excited for a NFS game since Most Wanted (the original). It just looks fun.

Seems to be a running thing this E3, games just lookin like some goddamn fun to play. That's probably a good thing, that video games are actually fun.

I think the problem that some people have with Titanfall is that it will probably be a full priced game. Traditionally these kinds of games have had also a single player campaign available to players.

I am not sure if I am willing to pay 69 euros for a game which only has multiplayer available to players.

From all the new racing games shown off, I was surprised that there was no new Ridge Racer. That seems like a launch game on any platform!

Has that nice "bedroom warmth" we've come to expect from... uh... these sorts of things.

From a photo filter terminology I'd say the back curtains are sepia and the foreground is sunrise or tobacco. Jeff's right side seems well tone balanced. And yes I do calibrate my monitors. :)

Mic sounds great @jeff. Rule of thumb for white balancing... If you have the option to calibrate with the Kelvin Scale, 3000k-32000k under artificial light and 5200k- 5800k for daylight. No need to see color when you just go by the numbers :) It looks better btw.

For years I've been in complete agreement with the specific argument Jeff uses for why review scores are useful. Especially since he's actively been part of changing how they're done (more than many other publications) both at GS and taking it even further (and better) at GB. However I don't buy for a second Jeff's reasoning here as to why a lack of scores is bad.

There's an argument as to why not including scores can reflect someone's assumed self-importance or loftiness but I think it is incredibly short sighted to assume that everyone who doesn't put scores on their reviews is doing it for that reason. Every reviewer/critic no doubt has seen the bullshit that comes with scores even if they think the good of the system outweighs it. Some reviewers/critics looked at that bullshit and decided to drop it altogether because they felt like the scores dominated the discussion and took away attention to the content that actually had time and effort put into it. Maybe I didn't like the tone but it came off rather dickish to just tell off people who don't put scores that they should lower themselves off their high horse. I'm sure there are more than a few to which that would be absolutely appropriate but I don't see it being exclusive to those cases.

Of course, with all that said, if the writing that is not being scored amounts to just another product review, than Jeff is totally right. If you're writing equivalent to reviews but refusing to put scores, then not much to justify why it doesn't. However as Jeff said, the more that people are moving away from descriptive reviews to more personalized editorial writing, I think it's easier to change it up than before.

Basically I think if a site or writer can make it work, more power to them. For instance, Rock, Paper, Shotgun named their "reviews", Wot I Think, don't put scores, don't have much of a dedicated editorial staff, and are occasionally not definitive structured reviews. As a result, I don't see that the same way because of the way RPS wants to do its thing but I still think I can extract useful information much like I would from a review on a site like GB.

I agree with you about the console transition, Jeff. It mostly comes down to cost, or learning how to do Gen 8 game scope and graphics without breaking the bank except for a few loss lead tech demo titles, again, just like last time. It'll be hated more though, due to G8 arriving on the heels of a long-in-the-tooth generation instead of during a hale and hearty PS2 juggernaut winding down.

Wish it would rain down here... In the qualitative sense, I have to see the consoles vs a good computer..plus/minus advantages. I don't think exclusive games so far sell me.

I don't think I've heard any press shitting on Titanfall. Everyone seems to be losing their minds over it. I swear I saw a story run somewhere about it getting like ALL of the Best of E3 2012 awards. Maybe Jeff is referring to the somewhat ambivalent reaction of gamers? In which case, why rail against them? As Jeff said, it's not his job to sell us games.

I feel a special kind of self loathing whenever Jeff reads my gamer tag. :)

@bacongames: well i'd agree with jeff in the fact that no one gives a shit about the text of a review. Most People just want a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

@jrock3x8: If Fallout 4 was there, they were probably only showing it to retailers and/or analysts. I know Rockstar was there for a bit showing off GTAV to analysts. And Epic was supposedly there with Fortnite, but again, not for the media.

I believe the story goes that then Whiskey Media Co-worker Tested.com's Will Smith and himself got into an "arguement" about using a Jar to drink from. Obviously Jeff is pro jar and Will is anti-jar. That's really all that it is. I'm not sure if Will still does it but he does the same video serious called "No Jars Allowed" gathering questions From his community and answering them on camera.

Originally these videos were 'the points report' where jeff detailed what xbox 360 achievements he got (dates back to 2006 ish) He always drank from jars in the videos and eventually when it became less about points and more about Jeff, he changed the name.
