Quick Look: Angry Birds Trilogy

$40 for this horseshit?

Hilarious.

Angry Birds is actually an extremely well designed game around a core mechanic that deliberately fosters both easy casual play (just get all of the pigs, you win!) and allowing the player to set their own challenges, learning and unlocking the different mechanics and how to optimally use them (speed birds move fastest right at the point of activation, using bomb birds as a pushing tool rather than a area clearer, where to hit objects to destroy them with best efficiency or launch them). To anyone who thinks it's just stupid simplicity, you should actually try to go for high scores and 3 star every stage, you'll see it.

Same with Peggle. If you're just trying to hit all the orange pegs, yeah it's a simple, dumb game. If you're going for ace scores, you're developing strategies to maximize your potential, rushing orange early to get into the x10 factor while leaving as many blue pegs for later. Looking for style bonuses where possible, etc.

I had actually never seen any gameplay of any Angry Birds game before now. Looks like something I'd be OK paying a dollar for, but certainly not forty.

This was really not what I expected Angry Birds to be after hearing about all the success it's had for so long. I feel old now :(

Ditto. Just because the game comes in a 40c box does not justify the $40 price tag. That and you don't get AB Space? Personally I'm happy with the iPad versions I have of said games plus Space and Star Wars. There are games that need to be played on consoles, but these are not those games.
