Quick Look: Call of Duty: Black Ops

Commercial is sweet - and I don't even play COD

Oddly enough the offline bot stuff is tempting me (even more) to buy this. Sometimes my Internet craps out, and it is kind of cool that I can still get some multiplayer-ish action in when that happens.

Wow, that's pretty cool the hacking stuff is awesome I remember in enter the matrix I spent some time on that hacking machine, maybe I'll buy this game when it drops in price cause I'm not a big CoD fan, weird modern warfare 2 is same price as this 0.o wtf.

All that Terminal stuff instantly made me think about the hacking stuff in Enter The Matrix, and finding that hidden samurai sword level :D

This Quick Look sold me on Black Ops and I am so glad that it did.

Am I the only one that found the entire sequence with Jeff playing One in the Chamber and talking to himself hilarious?

I just finished the game on PC and watching this makes my eyes hurt.

So One in the Chamber uses pistols but the bullet icon on the UI uses rifle rounds. Nice.

Is there really online split-screen...? I can see the issues with that because I enjoy having the whole screen to myself for online fps'. I mean I don't know if Brad and Jeff ever brought that up in the Quick Look but in case anyone didn't catch that, on the Player Matches screen there was a part under the players name that said to add a controller for split screen. I'm just wondering if it's true because I think that it's a decent addition for those who care.

The amount of detail that Treyarch put in the command terminal was very impressive. I can easily see myself messing with that for awhile.

I only really want to play "one in the chamber", the rest of this game looks extremely boring

I think the Call of Duty games are solid, but really have no interest in them. This one, however, looks cool as hell.

One in the Chamber looks intense, especially when you're down to the last three..

My post may be deleted for certain reasons, but I have a valid statement.  I still own a 360 and Wii, used to own a PS3, but recently made the move to PC.  I built a MONSTER gaming machine and I STILL can't get over how much better these games look on PC.  The game looks so washed out on the 360.  Whatever...just stating the obvious.  This game still fucking rocks!  Beat it in one sitting and now getting ready to tear it up on MP!

Treyarch is not creative enough to make a Spec Ops.

Since I learned to speak Spanish, I love to hear it in the background. And Cubans, man. Cubans!
 
Is it just me, or does Treyarch have a sort of "me-too" complex where they just have to be more intense and ridiculous? This game is more cursy and violent than MW2 - which, you'll notice, was only rated for "Language." I think they throw an f-bomb at the very end of the game, though, which I don't remember in Call of Duty 4, which had the Strong Language descriptor. Weird.

PC version is fucking unplayable.

Quick point worth mentioning: The plane flying low over in Hong Kong is a reference to Kai Tak Airport, the former international airport in Kowloon.  It was notoriously difficult to land at, with planes having to fly very low on approach. "

This is slightly off-topic, but can anyone tell me why Sam Worthington keeps getting high-profile roles?  I've never seen anyone say he was particularly good in anything he's been in, at best competant.  Does he have embarrassing photos of half of Hollywood or something?

The screen adjustment in this quick look gives you an idea of just how much overscan there is on those Sharp screens (which I assume they're still using here). I guess this means they don't have an "Actual Pixels," "Gaming," or "PC" mode for the display.

Spec ops was the worst mode in all of MW2, I don't know why you guys liked it so much.

hey, that wasn't a very accurate depiction of a number station, was it?

I'm pretty sure they used random pre-recorded voices (captured from other radio stations, movies, TV and such) even back in the 60's - certainly in the 70's - for that.

All the number stations I've heard have had different voices for every number anyway, children's voices and adults all mixed up and stuff. Much creepier than one woman just saying them - and damn, I think showing reel-to-reel tape decks playing the number recording could have looked cooler as a cinematic too.

By the way, does the PC version of this include dedicated servers? If so, I might actually pick this up once it reaches a reasonable price range - if it ever does, that is.

According to you-know-what ipedia, The AUG was made in the late 70s. So take that for what it's worth.

i don´t know if anyone in the comments already commented on that but the airplane is there because the Hong Kong Airport was very famous for his very low  approach. you could actually look into the windows and see people
