Excited for this one. Especially after seeing how much everyone loved the first. Can't wait to see what they do with bigger, more, and better.

I managed to have a miniature panic attack just watching them try to handle rush hours.

Time for more terrible Dan ideas.

Edit: I only played the first game and playing with keyboard may be better.

It is absolutely better in every way but I really like the chaos of gamepad play.

I'm sure it makes little sense in watching it but there is really something oddly relaxing about dealing with the stress in this game.

I think the quick look for the first game was one of the videos that made me think "those guys deserve some of my money"

This might be a candidate for best soundtrack of the year. The crescendo around rush hour perfectly matches the increase in intensity.

The decoration on the restaurant looks like it was inspired by Giant Bomb West's old office on the third floor.

Using a controller just seems like an inferior way to play this. Give me keyboard any day of the week.

There's a customer in this game that looks so much like Ryan. He was the reason I got into the original.

But I agree that the controller support makes it a lot more tricky, still playable but tricky.

I'm hearing people say the first game is better because the restaurant management gets way too hard or something in This? Of course kotaku saying something is hard is not the most accurate place but is where I saw the complaints I think.

This looks great I may try this but just picked up steamworld didgeridoo 2 on switch yesterday which is awesome too

Pounding out food on a keyboard is way more satisfying. I loved to do that in the first game. Man that first game was so good.

...Damn it, I might have to buy this game.

Easily my most anticipated release of 2017. I'm loving it so far. You can buy your own foods in the Food Catalog btw.

Check out the special thanks...

Does anyone know about an iPad version? That was how I played the original and LOVED it. Checked the dev's website and updates but didn't see anything mentioned as of now.

@steveurkel: CSD2 has 3x as many recipes, plus the concept of "pre-prep / holding stations", so that can throw CSD1 fans for a loop at first.

Also, note that the "email story progression" that was in CSD1 (which contained fun side quests such as Crazy Earl's Wagers and Cook4Luv) is absent in CSD2. *However*, chubbigans (the sole dev of the CSD series) has been very receptive to player feedback, and he'll release a similar email-system feature in an update.

I also feel like once returning players wrap their heads around what the holding stations can do for foods that used to be a major pain in the butt it really settles down.

I'm sure most folks here might know this, but it's worth restating how profoundly the dev on this game was appreciative of the exposure Ryan gave him. Major onion alert, but his eulogy for Ryan is absolutely lovely (http://www.vertigogaming.net/blog/?p=2476).

I haven't played either game, but I've watched my wife play both for... many many hours. I love so many things about the new one. The art is spectacular, and it reminds me a bit of the approach Apple took when they redid all of their emoji. Really clean, food-porn type treatment. And the writing is remarkably funny. If you haven't read the food and restaurant info pages, I HIGHLY recommend it. Overall the presentation reminds me a lot of the sort of gleamingly fetishistic tone of Japanese cooking shows.

Yes! Really happy that Dan decided to do a QL of the second game.

There's definitely a skill element to this game that can be pretty daunting at first, especially when you've got a fire on your flat-top grill and six angry customers about to leave. Oh, and right after the game first launched, there was a bug that caused your restaurant's "Buzz" to slowly creep up over 200%, and things eventually got so busy that it became completely unmanageable.

Wait, so the progression you went through in the first game is not in this at all? I liked having a startup restaurant where you unlock and buy more and more stuff. If the only thing you can do in this game to progress is go between the restaurants in the tower then I am sadly not that interested.
It probably doesn't really matter, but I like that sense of progression in management games.

@steveurkel: They are very very different game outside of the core cooking gameplay. The first game was very much about managing your own menu, figuring out what recipes you liked best etc etc, while the sequel leans very heavily into the pre-set challenges. Also, if Kotaku reviewed the game at launch there was a bug that made the freeform mode pretty much impossible after a few cycles.

100% Cook, Serve, Delicious! is still Cook, Serve, Delicious! Super frantic cooking action. Looks awesome, exactly what I hoped for from the sequel. Lasagne was always one of the most complicated recipes fro CSD 1; I hated making it.

Also hooray the Ryan Davis burger is still in the game. Nice one Cubbigans.

@jaqen_hghar: Unfortunately yes, the progression is mostly absent in this game. There's a level-up system where you gain stars, but all it unlocks is random cosmetic items for designing your restaurant's look (as well as the occasional food item). The developer (David Galindo) has talked on his blog and his Twitter about how he was doing it in response to the long grinds in the first game, where you had to go for 20 days before moving onto the next part.

I will say it's still a lot of fun to play, and I like the new holding stations and the new ingredient lists, but it's become the sort of thing I'll load up and play a couple of days to kill time, rather than something I sink real time into.

Edit: 5 minutes into the video. Holy hell, I can't even imagine trying to do this with a controller. Multiple inputs per ingredient seems insane to me when you can do them all with single key presses.

It's still there and I think is being augmented in future updates.
