I reallllly want to play this game , but full-price, are you kidding me? I'd pay half that, though which is more than I'd normally be willing to pay for this type of game.

As much as I like bullet hell shooters the price on this is just insane.

I like shooters (I'm not a big fan, but I do enjoy playing them), but $50-60 seems WAY too steep for this package, especially since it's a digital release. I see some people saying it's worth it, and I'm sure it is to them if they're pretty hardcore SHMUP fans who love trying to get new high scores and/or 1cc these games. But, for someone like me who is more casual when it comes to these games, I'd rather wait for it to go on sale for something like $20.

What are these words in that title

It's 46€ on Steam and was 20% off after launch so I paid like 36€ for it. The PC version is probably the best one due to multi-monitor support.

On another note, are they fighting Grouden in the image for this video? Seems like Palkia would have been more appropriate.

G Darius on the PS1 is really good and you get to play more than 3 stages in arcade mode. Seems like a better game overall too.

I've been wanting to buy this so badly, but I don't think I can justify spending $60 on it. I'm kinda surprised it's that much, to be honest. If it was $40 I'd be all up in that shit. I played soooo much G Darius on the Playstation when I was a kid.

This game is ridiculously huge and it's disappointing that the Quick Look doesn't really touch upon that. CS mode has something like 300 stages in a branching, almost Super Mario World-esque map design. That first set that Jeff briefly looked at is the equivalent of Yoshi's Island 1 in SMW. Chronicle mode (inside AC mode) has thousands spread out across several hex-based maps.

The $60 price is absolutely justified. This game is so big and so good.

I fucking loved Abadox. I was able to do the one credit clear on that game.

I cared a lot less about the price point when I realized on the PSN store that there's also a Vita version, they're not cross-buy, and the Vita version is also $20 cheaper. That just seems kind of outrageous to me, though maybe it's a common practice? If the Vita and PC versions can be cheaper, there's no reason the PS4 version shouldn't be also.

the categories we commonly use to distinguish between types of life, like fish, are not particularly useful when categorizing life. This is mostly because they have not been updated to reflect the pattern of life, the nested hierarchy, that life is naturally organized. Because the term fish is used to describe a broad and diverse group of organisms some of which are more similar to us genetically and morphologically than they are to each other the only way to reflect the diversity of life and the nested hierarchy that is innate to life under the term fish is to include all land vertebrates (which includes us).

For real, Star Fox is better than Outrun.

I understand why $60 is a lot for some people, but the game is rad as hell; I have it on Vita (where it's $40) and I'm thinking of double dipping on PS4 in order to play with pals on my arcade sticks.

@danryckert Star Fox's dad is definitely dead. It's his ghost calling to you from beyond the grave at the end of the game.

Price is a little too rich for me but I am very much looking forward to playing it, it looks great. A good Christmas sale might be too much to hope for so I might just have to look elsewhere to play in the mean time.

I'm very rarely one to tell a publisher how much to charge for their games, but I think they could have done people a better deal on this one, simply comparing it to other offerings at that price.

Edit: whoa, the game displays over both my 24in monitors to become 3840x1080 32:9 and it looks fucking cool.

May be a dumb question for a shooter, but how's the variety in all those stages?

While I've always enjoyed the games in the Darius series, I've always found them a little dry when compared to, say, the R-Type titles. And the pricepoint on this one ain't helping get the deal across the line with me on this occasion.

It's lots of subtle variations rather than wholly unique, individual levels. You might see the same pattern of asteroids, but the enemies around it will be different. You'll face a version of a boss with different patterns. You'll be using different ships with different constraints. Sometimes you'll start fully powered. Sometimes there will be no power-up or shield drops. That sort of thing.

Regarding shooters where you steal weapons from enemies, TUMIKI Fighters was a nice little concept along these lines. And there was indeed a particular weapon that was definitely the one you wanted to capture.

Cabinet 11 is actually a good choice if you want to see everything - that's the one the Shmups forum is using. That means pretty much everything will be unlocked in short order.
