Quick Look: Destiny

This quick look might change my mind into getting this game

Yeah, it seems paced in a way I don't like to play for too long. I like Wolfenstein's frantic pace with small breaks in between, not the relaxed slow stroll this seems to offer. Shame, I liked the feel of it in the alpha/beta but the one spider boss fight thing really soured me and this hasn't helped.

To buy, or not to buy. This will be my answer.

Looking forward to Dan's take on this but was secretly hoping to get Alexis or Drew's opinion as well since they're the resident Halo fanatics.

Why no Drew included? He loves Halo (just as any self-respecting person does)

Huh, a lot quicker a look than I expected from a game of this caliber. I wonder what that means... Let's find out!

Edit: Could be that the video ends before it's supposed to. That would certainly explain it. The Youtube version is the same length, too.

Surprised by the quick disc install time for the Xbox One version.

I was going to make an amusing reference to A.I. rampancy and Dinklage's role as The Imp in Game of Thrones, but every one was terribly offensive.

The character models, faces are generic as fuck. Mass Effect 3 characters look better and are memorable for sure.

I'm still getting it no matter what (it shipped today anyway, so it's coming) but I've heard... disappointed comments on the game. I'm sure I'll like it, I damn sure enjoyed the beta, but I hope this turns out like Diablo 3 in more ways than one, mostly in terms of patches. Basically I'm hoping for Blizzard levels of support and not just everything in DLC.

I would watch a space buddy cop movie with these three and Peter Dinklage.

good lord what is with the character model's in this game. it's like they've all come from a My Chemical Romance show.

Since there won't be a PC version soon enough for anyone to care, I don't.

The video cuts off very abruptly at the end.

Every issue I have with bloated, slow games that waste way too much time on menus, bad storytelling and other fat is crystallized here. I'm not surprised, based on my experience with the alpha, but this game looks so bafflingly dull. Too much slog to get to actual gameplay and the gameplay looks plain as it comes.

I wonder if anyone would care about this game if Bungie's name wasn't on it.

Think the upload is bad. It's fine to watch what's up but it seems to just cut abruptly like there's a lot more missing.

Edit: Yeah just looked, there still 45 minutes missing.

Jeff I'm amazed you made it this far lol. You keep doing the same thing over and over again which is: Miss most shots, run up to an enemy to punch em', get surrounded, lose all of your health.

Not the best strategy in the book.

But I have to agree with Dan as far as things actually happening with regards to saga story in video game trailers when it comes to Metal Gear. But I guess that just comes with a plot that's a lot bigger at this point than something like Halo.

I want to play this game, it's really purty. But I am kind of a loner, and it did not sound good for that. But for another game, Borderlands, they said the same also, and I really enjoyed myself

I'm the same way. I had the same experience with borderlands they were all "you shouldn't play it alone" but I really enjoyed playing through both games multiple times solo. I'm having the same experience in destiny too, I'm enjoying playing solo even though it can get tough in some spots by yourself. I do group up for strikes though because they're just impossible on your own.

@vn1x: Not the best strategy? Have you even seen the Extra Life stream? It's the ONLY strategy.

If that is the case then their upload failed for YouTube as well.

I guess the reason the video was cut off was because of Jeff's hate for Metal Gear lore.

They should keep the ending. Perfect comedic timing where I had to replay the video three times to make sure I heard what Dan just said.

I assume a fist fight erupted over which game had worse lore, and that's what was cut out.

Looks really kind of boring. Shame that they couldn't think of anything interesting for you to do during missions or anything interesting for weapons to do. I think I'll skip it. Maybe next year it'll be better.

This seems like the McDonnalds of shooters with super safe, super reliable game design that's always got more of the same, you are always encouraged to bring friends, that youth demo is locked down and you keep em coming back for more with new offers and super merchandisable branding.

Of course Call of Duty would have to be the KFC of shooters with your occasional fried chicken head every other year but you still keep coming back for more, always wishing you hadn't.

Farcry 4, probably that will be good, even if its just more Farycry 3 with better graphics.

I haven't really followed the game too much, but what's on display in this (currently truncated) QL does look a lot like a prettier Borderlands in concept. I played the heck out of Borderlands - perhaps too much - and then played through Borderlands 2 quickly one time without even doing all side missions, and now I really have no desire to play that sort of free-form, loot driven FPS ever again. I was over exposed to it and it's worn thin. It's unfortunate because Destiny seems like it's a much better game than Borderlands (which I weirdly think is not actually that great a game despite playing it obsessively), but it doesn't have the benefit of being fresh like BL1 was. I wonder is Jeff is similarly affected and that accounts for some of his tepid reaction to Destiny - because he also played a ton of Borderlands 1 yet did not get into Borderlands 2 all that much.

But it's about the expeeeerience maaaan, it's about getting immersed in the loooooore and the stoooory and what it all meeeans, man. We spent all this time and money writing this crap so you're gonna sit there and listen damn it!

Hell of a way to end the Metal Gear Solid story discussion.
