Quick Look: Diablo III Beta

Diablo 3!! Wish this was out some time soon, but then again too many awesome games are coming out; i´ll wait! Looks great though!

I don't like that they've removed the skill trees. Also the "skill slot" thingy is fucking stupid imo. After watching this I"m actually even less excited about Diablo 3.

I know its never been a part of the Diablo franchise as I can remember.. But I would have liked some character customization options.

I love the graphics and the way it looks, but I'm not sure what to think of the new skill system and lack of attribute points yet.

I'm still gonna play the hell out of it when it comes out though.

Diablo as never done much for me, and don't see this changing that. Fun QL though.

Sometimes this happens to me also. Try switching to "streaming - HD", works for me (I use proggresive as default).

Yeah, this is what fixes it for me too. The problem only seems to happen with the lengthier HD videos when trying to watch in progressive mode.

Man, this is.. wrong, but... This makes me really excited for Torchlight 2.
 
Edit: Okay, the different management for the classes is making me feel this game a bit more. The monk looks fun to play. You've got my interest for now, Diablo 3.

After not being interested in D3 at all, this quicklook has tempted me to at least check it out someday.

Not digging the auto attributes on levelup and very linear skill progression though, I thought this was an actual RPG. It all feels very, very simplified.

I got them to read my dumb pants joke, so I'm satisfied.

As far as the Diablo thing itself, I never played it, but I like the look of this one.

Awesome QL and really good to here so many guys commenting and interested in the game.

Not actually true, that was just a rumor that emerged when Blizzard customer support confused the requirements for posting on the forums, with the requirements for the Beta. Any game will do, as long as it isn't a starter edition.

It seems more like a sponsored mass preview. I skipped parts of the video, but did they ever mention bug reporting or anything like that?

Starter Editions are basically the free versions of StarCraft 2 and WoW. Don't worry you can opt in for the beta with D2, just make sure to update your specs on your opt-in page on battle.net and you are done.

Twilight: The Game

I found a solution for the audio issue when you pause the video and then play it. Just keep pausing and playing until it works again.

The add blocker Dooleh suggested is great

and finally, Diablo 3 looks fu**ing amazing.

I caught this live and it was excellent. For me it was actually the first time seeing all the classes I didn't know already though I'm sure it has been out there previously. Still not too sure what to think of this since it has to live up to personal favorites of mine like Sacred 1 and Titan Quest. The latter one especially blew my mind and pushed the genre exactly in the direction I want (particularly the ability to re-assign skills easily and combine two talent trees freely) whereas the gameplay changes in Diablo 3 seem more weird or neutral than for the better. But I'm still excited and hoping to be won over eventually.

I am not gonna watch this, this is the only game I wait and respect so I am not gonna let myself see you joke about this game.

Holy shit I want to play Torchlight II now, like really bad. Of course Diablo 3 looks amazing (gonna demon hunter it up, baby!) but in the realm of games that are actually coming out soon, Torchlight II is going to be a massive D2-like experience. Can't wait.

Kinda interested but none of the classes seem that fun from what I've seen, I hope they'll add more eventually.

This and Battlefield 3 are the reasons why I am saving for a new gaming PC.

Look, I know the Giant Bomb crew plays the majority of their games on the consoles, as opposed to PC. That said, please honor us PC gamers by at least turning on vsync and pushing the graphic settings up as high as they can go on your system. It's really hard watching this with tearing going on.

Anyone else think that limiting the skill slots is nearly direct confirmation that they're going to make a console port of Diablo III?

If they just let you assign your skills to all the number keys, or to F1, F2...F11, F12, that's way too many buttons for a console. But if you only have 6 skill slots, that is much easier to assign to shoulder buttons and face buttons on a controller.

I caught the tail end of this live, and am pumped to watch the whole thing! This game seems to owe a heck of a lot to Torchight, but that's not a bad thing. Things like picking up gold just by walking over it make your life easier. The stuff with skill points and abilities looks interesting though, and streamlined in a nice way.

Torchlight 2 will be a lot of fun, but I'll be buying Diablo 3 for its atmosphere, story and level of polish that will be far ahead.

I don’t get all the fuss about this game, if this would be called anything else and not publish by Blizzard than that game would have been destroyed in its quicklook.

Can't tell if serious or not... but I will take it as serious. Playing online is heavily encouraged. This game is way better online with friends and trading items. You really gotta embrace the loot lust if you want it to be the most fun. Because in single-player you'll never be able to level as fast as you can in a full game and you'll also come across more items. Public games have always been fun in this game too. I would highly recommend going online and trying to make some friends in the game. If you go back and play Diablo 2 you'll find a lot of noob-friendly players are still around. They'll hook you up with rushes and items.

Diablo III + Vinny = 'tis a glorious day, indeed.

Funny to hear the question about whether Diablo will be worth it's full 60 dollar retail price while I'm sitting here trying to decide if I'm going to spend a grand on a new PC for it.

I'm sticking with Torchlight 2. That looked like ass.

Diablo 3 taking some ques from Guild Wars kind of freaks me out. Suggests gone are the days when you can summon an army. But, it's a beta and the game doesn't even have an announced window of release (at all).

Certain things may change, and also have no way of telling what higher levels will be like. I am skeptical though, it seems TO scaled back. Diablo without being able to map your spells (to the function keys) seems weird to me. That and there is basically no customization beyond what loot you get. At least in Diablo 2 you had skill allotment. I'm not with Rorie on this, I felt the way Diablo 2 handled it was great even if a tad flawed (Some characters if you don't specialize a certain way later in the game you'll be screwed). I think refining it rather then taking it away would make more sense.

We'll see. I'm still gonna play it, and it still seems fun; it's just seeming like strange design choices. But again this is a perception from the outside of the fence looking in a window on the other side of a hill.

If anything, the revelation that they've basically removed any sort of risk from skill and attribute allocation has made me less excited about Diablo III. I'll still *probably* get it, but removing any sort of player input in this regard seems like a step down.

They know that. It's an inside joke because at...E3 I think?...some PR dudes for the game were calling it "Die-ab-lo" and they straight up railed on the guys about it in the Bombcast. Yes, they all know Diablo is Spanish for devil. And how you say it.
