In retrospect, Dan talked so little during the video that I wonder why he was even there. I guess there was no way of knowing that beforehand.

An ability hotbar is a very standard and common thing in games, MMOs, RPGs and aRPGs. As are portraits on the top left and a map on the top right. It's like an ammo counter, a crosshair and a gun on the right hand side of an FPS game. The icons are completely different.

It looks like a generic fantasy RPG UI.

@mooseymcman: Growing pains I reckon. Anyways, really liked Rorie in this QL. And I needed to buy this game yesterday, as a big fan of the Infinity Engine games, this looks fucking amazing.

A lot of panty thievery going on this week at Giant Bomb.

The Divinity games always have a really great sense of humor, and this looks mechanically more interesting than Divine Divinity/ 2, can't wait to play it.

Okay, I immediately bought this after watching this live and have now played for a few hours. It's really good, so thanks for the great QL guys.

Oh, totally, and I appreciate that Dan didn't feel the need to butt in constantly even though he didn't have anything pertinent to say most of the time. Conversely, I feel like he might have had something productive to do elsewhere instead of watching Brad and Rorie actually talk about the game, its mechanics, etc.

Personally I'd rather Dan dip his feet into games that he is not instantly in tune with. As at the moment his gaming experience/taste seems very limited, safe and familiar. The sooner Dan starts getting into unfamiliar territory the better, imo.

Game is legit. Been playing since 1.0 release day and Im thoroughly hooked 30hrs in. Never played a CRPG before but this game is making want to check out all those old CRPGs I missed out on. A very refreshing experience from having played only console RPGs honestly, cannot recommend it enough.

Its also an extremely polished game for a kickstarter. Not that kickstarters cant be polished as well but the point is that you wouldnt have guessed this was a kickstarter if you didnt already know it beforehand.

The most frustrating type of game to watch someone else play (just yelling what to do in every battle lol).

Let me tell anyone who hasn't played: teleporting barrels for days. So useful. In all these fights if you just do that you can set on fire and blow up a ton of enemies.

They end up doing it later, but teleporting enemies is expensive but very useful. You can teleport barrels, those exploding guys, mages and drop them right next to your warrior and beat on them, etc.

Larian already had $3 MIL before they launched the kickstarter, and then they raised up $3 MIL from it.

Needless to say that Larian would have made the game even if they didn't have a successful kickstarter; they used kickstarter to get backers for the improvement of the game.

Not sure if other people have found this but the biggest help in this game for me was sticking a summon on every party member. You double the party size and there are so many fights where you are badly outgunned.

I'm playing co-op and this has gotten us out of more tight situations than I can count. Curious what other people used as their builds. We went cleric wizard waizard fighter.

I really like the rapport he has with brad especially, and I think he's gotten really good at starting interesting discussions during Quick Looks.

I fell asleep over and over again during this QL. It looks good, but definitely one of those titles I wait for the price to drop.

@gaftra: Yep there are a lot of very useful viable strategies to find and exploit in the game, that's one of them. If you want to go even further give everyone charm abilities then you can turn a 4vs8 fight into 12vs4 in theory.

Or have a rogue with 5 stealth (which makes stealth cost 1AP) with 50% extra damage to weakened enemies, buffed with extra 50% extra damage, then back stab from stealth 5+ times per turn with haste, everything gets sliced, bosses can die in a turn.

Casting rain is probably one of the easiest synergies setups to get going. Cheap and massive aoe. Even 2 water/air mages can then completely shut down the entire battlefield with lightning and ice on wet enemies standing in puddles, ouch. As well as keeping your dudes from burning if that's a threat.

You can even drop enemies into lava with teleport for instant kills. Or make a poison surface, explode it with fire, then shoot the resulting smoke with lightning to create a static cloud. :P

Got this during the Steam sale. Great game.

The fact it's been a best seller for over a week gives me hope for humanity. Thought I suspect a bunch of people bought it expecting a Diablo clone.

I've got Divinity 2 (developers edition or somesuch), which was a bit awkward but I enjoyed. Only got to the bit where you get your Tower.

I think this is the same people. How's it in comparison? It's the same world, I assume?

In comparison to what? Ones a 3rd person rpg and ones turned based. Gameplay wise they're both completely different. Universe I can't really say as i've only played Divinity 2.

I know Rorie is a busy guy, but having him in QLs and other content besides Unprofessional Fridays would be really great. He's funny, well-spoken, and his jabs are great. RORIEUSARORIEUSARORIEUSA.

I have to disagree with Rorie being in a lot of future Quick Looks. He seems to dominate the conversation even when he's not the one playing and kept telling Brad what to do during the Lighthouse fight. It got pretty old really fast. Sometimes it felt like he cut Brad off with a question that Brad was about to answer.

If he can tone it down a bit, sure, bring him in. Otherwise, leave him be.

@thebigj_a: It's the same dev and the same world, but the gameplay is completely different. It's a little like Fallout 1 or 2, and even Baldur's Gate.

20+ hours and just got off the first map. Great game!

I really liked the weird Dragon Commander. I had forgotten that Divinity was the series that gave us Ego Draconis (I think Dave showed that off years ago) and so I am HOPING this game also involves completely bonkers transforming into a dragon gameplay..and jet engines strapped onto your back but I think that wouldn't be canonical.

Huh, I don't really see much of a resemblence. Mostly looks like a stylized version of Arcanum's battle interface to me (itself very similar to Fallout 1 and 2's battle interface, as they used the same engine and AP based combat system).

It's pretty much Arcanum's hotbar and AP counter fixed to the bottom of the screen, with the other stuff, like the enemy info window moved to a contextual window on top and the other buttons miniaturized and moved to the sides.

Actually, Dragon Commander is entirely canonical. It's just that Divinity Original Sin takes place before that technology was developed.

I think Dragon Commander actually takes place in the distant past of that world, if I recall correctly. I know that Original Sin takes place hundreds of years before Divine Divinity/Divinity 2, not that most of these games have anything other than minor thematic ties and a few recurring characters together.

I think it's funny that you guys had Dan on this one, when it's been a running joke/common knowledge in the Game Informer community that Dan hates fantasy.

Is it bad that I've been playing videogames since the year 1990 and everything in this video flies right over my head. Have nearly no idea what's going on. I mainly play on PC too.

I'm just always surprised how little game reviewers actually play games or even know about games. It feels weird that I have a wider breadth of game knowledge than most of the GB crew except probably Jeff and Ryan. But I guess I just don't know anything about reviewers really, I just assumed you would have to have played a lot of games to be one.

I've had this in and out of my cart for a few days. I'll make my decision after watching this QL. Please make it look good, Brad!

Favorite game so far this year.

@fijcjea: it isn't about knowledge it is about tastes. Dan seems to have mostly the exact same tastes as Jeff--not interested in most Japanese games, hates JRPGs, indifferent to PC sims, Mobas, MMOs, and hardcore CRPGS, likes AAA FPS games. Which is fine; people's tastes are what they are I guess. But it does make him a bit milquetoast in terms of the original commentary he can offer. Dan seems basically like Jeff #2 right down to his ironic embracing of dumb 80s and 90s American pop cultural attitudes and love of wrestling. I was really hoping we would get someone who would show more diverse interest or at least more own minded towards expanding their interests. Dan is a likeable enough guy but it seems clear he will be content to stand on the sidelines and scoff at all the things "these kids today like" like Jeff. Pretty much every video he's been in involves some sort of (admittedly self deprecating) scoffing at something he doesn't know or care about (Dota, anime/JRPGs, CRPGS). This is also consistent with the attitudes he expressed on The Game Informer podcasts where he mostly derided Phil Kollar when Phil was enthusaistic about some new JRPG or MMO. I always loved Patricks willingness to broaden his gaming taste and challenge himself. GB could use more of that attitude.

Easily the best RPG released so far this year. You're missing out if you don't get this game, it's freaking awesome. No wonder it's been the number 1 seller on Steam since it's released last week.
