I think this Quick Look really does this game a disservice. Although the game can be played single-player it's made very clear, literally plastered everywhere, that they want people to be playing 4 player co-op. And from what I've seen, it looks 100 times better when people play it like that.

This Quick Look also highlighted something which I feel is happening more often, which is that (and I hate to say it) but the guys don't seem to know much about some games when they go into it. I know it's going to be very difficult to keep up with so many game at once, especially at this time of year, but recently there have been quite a few Quick Look where I've found myself in a position where I know things being said aren't true, or change later in the game, or just know answers to questions that get asked during the QL.

It's not so much that I mind, it's more that I know there are many people out there who will watch one video, or hear one thing about a game and then make up their mind about said game based solely on that. Even here you can see comments like "this game doesn't look like much fun" yet if those people checked out some footage of the 4 player online co-op they might have an entirely different opinion.

I'm sorry to say but brad has not provided a good look at this game.

if you want to see a proper view of this game, i recommend you go check out totalbiscuts playthrough with some devs.

This game is skull-numbingly boring solo, but it's actually kind of fun in MP. I just played throught the first four levels with a buddy - SPLIT SCREEN ON THE PC!

With the mage guy you're supposed to use lots of his magic missile towers. Put a few of them around on that level you were doing two-player and it all takes care of itself. If you put barricades in front of them and seal them off, the enemies can't get at them and get torn apart. It's just a case of running around and repairing stuff as it gets damaged. On the second level, though, I got taken apart by the ogre miniboss. He smashes through structures in seconds and has HP measured in the thousands rather than the tens.

the fact that you can use a memory editor and cheat in this game has ruined the ranked mode on the steam version.

Bought the game yesterday despite disliking the artstyle and i have to say its a ton of fun in coop. went to bed way too late, not even dark souls can make me do that. wizzard is fun but does feel less powerful than the squire, that round turret they have seems to destroy everything.

Brads constant complaining about how he sucks with the wizard is kind of silly. Its all about build basic magic towers which can see you through most of the maps on their own.

It's kind of sad that Brad who has a love for starcraft doesn't seem to understand that building placement and macro is just as important for this game. I've been playing the shit out of this game though, and not all of the classes are simple to start out with but the squire and wizard are easily the most simple, whereas the monk and huntress can be very hard to learn.

Bit of a slow and scary start, but now me and my girlfriend are hooked on the Steam version and we're kicking ass as a squire & huntress combo.

@Tag: Its not exactly easy to keep a conversation rolling while playing a game. Try to have a conversation with someone where your actually listening you'll see how hard it is.

It seems that Brad prefers to play this as an action game rather than a tower defense game, which is strange considering how much he likes TD games.

@Leekspin said:

@TwoLines: I dunno, I beat Torchlight with the wizard pretty easy. I specced him into the pet tree and just let them kill everything. It was the most easy mode class I've ever played

That is exactly how I played. I had ridiculously powerful pets and summoned beasts that dominated everything.

Well, I bough the game today and started out as an Apprentice and I had absolutely no problems playing through the first three LEVELS on my own. Of course, you have to actually BUILD stuff to win, not just upgrade your character and think you can take everything on without barricades and magic missle towers.

This QL should have been held until they could play online (or with a full team), because THAT is when this game is FUN FUN FUN.

Ugh. Giantbomb's "Ignorance = bias" creeps up immediately once again. Brad man - this is out on PSN too. Sh**; just ...research things a bit before QLs, eh? Really quickly. That's all I want. I mean, how many times have Giantbomb, and perhaps Brad specifically (though I HATE to call him out, since I know he often gets called out for not being the best guy at hosting Quick Looks), forgotten the price point of these games. "I wanna say, it's $15? But it might be $10" - c'mon guys! Or release dates "It's out now on XBLA, it might be coming to Steam or PSN....it might be out now". Oh jeez. Just have a laptop open nearby with that info readily available. Or bring it up on a smartphone. How hard is it?

I'm just asking for a little more polish here.

Unfortunately for you it's far superior to both and this Quick Look just didn't show that off since it was single-player on baby levels on what was clearly easy difficulty. So now you have to go spend $15! Trust me, you'll like it.

Cool why don't you post an example video showcasing the frantic and amazing gameplay then because as it stands it looks like boring shit and I loathe the graphic aesthetics. Orcs Must Die is extremely fun and it doesn't need some stupid RPG shit or loot for spergin' fairies to be so.

I'd love to, but the game just came out, and people can't really handle the higher difficulties -- or at least they're not making videos. Try "Dungeon Defenders Insane Difficulty" or "Monster Fest" in youtube. There are waves with 10,000+ enemies, so if you don't think that's frantic and crazy then I ain't got shit to say to you son! The game is friggin' amazaballs.

Alright, I have to chime in here and say that this QL does NOT do this game justice. It's a lot deeper than Orcs Must Die, and can end up being a lot more challenging than OMD, as well. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE OMD but Dungeon Defenders is a better game, even without the co-op aspect to it.

I just picked up the game about day days ago now and already have 16 hours poured into it, most of it in 4-player co-op with my buddies. It certainly gets tons more difficult and frantic, something that this QL doesn't even come close to showing off.

It's honestly a great game and well worth the $15 price tag.

I played this on ios when it first came out and it was awesome there too so i knew i was going to get it immediately on console also the wizard is awesome you just prefer melee characters like the majority but all rpgs have mages for a reason people like them. You don't, and that's fine, but don't say the wizard is a bad starter character overall because plenty of people like the wizard.

I love this game.

Tower Defense PLUS Loot PLUS scaling encounters Diablo style = Awesome Sauce.

They also have Unranked custom online play for PC and the devs are outright requesting people go for it and create any mods they can dream of. Which is so rare nowadays isn't it?

I'm not usually one to complain about quick looks and I give a lot of leeway when the guys get something wrong, but this one was bad. I played the game for a few hours this evening and it's great. It's not a surprise that Brad didn't understand the wizard class being default because he doesn't seem to understand the tower defense part of the game. It seems that he's putting a lot more emphasis on the character action than the tower defense. He was putting all of his upgrade points into the character's abilities and the placement didn't make much sense. He had a level 5 and a level 7 character, was playing on easy, and had still only unlocked the first two maps? I think he should have taken a bit more time with this one.

Just chiming in to say that Brad was pretty wrong about the Apprentice class being trash, because it's not. All classes have different roles, and for the Apprentice, direct combat is not his playstyle. Granted, it's not 100% clearly stated in the game as to what roles each class is supposed to play.

Basically, the roles are as follows:

  • Wizard/Apprentice - Tower offense/defense building
  • Knight/Squire - Melee direct combat
  • Archer/Huntress - Ranged combat and traps/debilitation
  • Monk - Party aura buffs/healing and debilitation

In other words, Brad pretty much was playing the Apprentice wrong, but I can't fault him completely because the game does not inform you of these things very well. Even Brad himself said it, the descriptions are "nebulous".
