Right? As soon as I saw this I was like "Huh I've seen about 4 games in the past few months exactly like this..." - It looks fun but for how long? These kind of games have about a week shelf-life then fizzle out.

I do like the personalities involved though, and this is just the start, so hopefully they make more compelling games in the future? I don't mean any of this to sound rude.

Well, they made this in no time, so this is probably more a proof of concept than anything else.

Also, speak for yourself regarding the shelf-life of these kinds of games. I've got absolutely no problem with devs releasing some local multiplayer games, it's not like we've gotten a ton of those in the past.

There's no way the final build will be as fun as this. Because Leland Yee won't be in it.

I like the NBA Jamness of it, all the sound clips and funny characters, although the reliance on copyrighted stuff because it's just a prototype might hurt the final game when they all have to be removed.

NBA Jam would have been better if there had been no real basketball players in it.

I suddenly find myself caring about this project. Hope it comes to PC or PS4 eventually.

How is it that they are overselling? Have you played it? If one of the main things coming out of GDC is that most everyone is stoked about how much fun this was, and you haven't actually played it, then how is this not you just trolling?

On a personal note, I really hope there is an online component to this, since I recently relocated to a small area for work and my kids aren't old enough to get the most out of this for a couple more years.

Mike Mika is one of the coolest name ever. It's up there with Brian O'Brien and Peter Peters.

I haven't watched the Quick Look yet, and I do think that sentiment is really, really cynical. But, with all these kind of similar looking, 2D couch-competitive games being covered over the past couple months, I can see how this feels like jumping on the zeitgeist. It's not how I feel, necessarily, but I don't think they are just trolling either.

That QR bit at the beginning was awesome. I want this game just for that. Also, this is probably the first time I've rooted against Vinny.

So I can see this game being super popular, at least for a bit. From the custom, sharable characters to the integrated social tournament aspects and streaming, it definitely seems poised to be a hit.

Personally not 100% sold on the mechanics but as they say it's basically a proof of concept at this point and I haven't even played it. But it does seem fun on a baseline level.

This looks dumb and not in the good way at all, this doesn't deserve any of that media attention its getting, sales will tell the tale though.

@jasius: Who are you to decide what deserves media attention? People who run game sites apparently love it, just because you don't doesn't mean they don't deserve the press.

So, Dan LeBatard of "Dan Lebatard Is Highly Questionable" fame has a radio show on the station that used to carry the Florida Panthers games. The play by play announcer's name is Randy Moller. On the show LeBatard would ask Moller to make funny goal calls based on pop culture and whatnot. He would do so, and they'd confuse the heck out of people. Those are the goal calls in this game.
