Quick Look: EX: Pillars of Eternity

super excited about this.

It's interesting to compare this to that Divinity game that just came out. Hopefully this means we'll start seeing more games in the oldschool PC vein. At first glance I kinda prefer the "no bad build" road Obsidian is taking.

It looks fucking incredible. CRPG is my favourite genre, and this looks like some throwback shit I can get behind in a big way.

This is simply great! After the fantastic Divinity Original Sin I simply cannot wait for this one as well.

And we also have Wasteland 2 coming out at the end of August. Hooray for the small resurgence of CRPG's! :D

I'm pretty sure they said that because they spent more time making Wasteland 2 than they projected, Torment won't be ready this year. :(

I've loved Original Sin so far but have to say this looks very strong too. Similar to Divinity, it's taking the cRPG base and really making some cool additions of its own to that frame.

In defense of Divinity, while it does have some limits to really free form character creation (mostly stuff like most rogue skills need to have a dagger equipped) you can do a lot of crazy stuff with that characters and have them work well.

I backed this, cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Sad that they didn't make a muscle wizard.

gotta say though that "run here" mouse cursor is... damn. nostalgia alert.

Stats determine dialog options, fuckin hell yeah! I like the way they show which stats open up dialog options but don't show you the actual dialog.

I really can't wait for Matt Rorie's Pillars of Eternity. Backed it as soon as they started the KS. And it looks fucking amazing.

This Obsidian developer guy seems like a really cool fellow. Games looks fan-tabby-tastic at that, as does Divinity; just too bad I can't play it. Guess it's all up to Dragon Age: Inquisition for my pause & play RPG fix.

oh neat, so it's basically got the darklands system of long term and short term health.

I love that they allow any stat to be useful for any class. More RPGs should do that. That makes me more excited about this than Divinity, which I really like.

Wow, I haven't heard someone mention Darklands since the mid 90's. So many great ideas, such a buggy mess (which they did eventually fix most of, but it was too late by then)...

Maybe a little too reverential, but I'll play it.

This looks great. I really hope insta-death and similar options will be gameplay toggles and not baked in the difficulty slider. Like Baldur's Gate vs Icewind Dale regarding "Max HP on level up" for instance.

Great to have Rorie on this, for those hard-hitting cRPG questions. Also making any stat build work seems amazingly awesome. One of the scariest things in these type of games is the fact that you could easily make your characters ineffective by choosing the wrong build.

I hope this ends up being my GOTY.

Very much looking forward to this game, I've never been able to get past some of the outdated stuff in the infinity engine games to be able to finish them so this is very much a game for me!

Uuugh, this looks sooo good. It's pushing all the right nostalgia buttons.

The only thing I'd request is a Re-Roll button on the attribute screen.

Huzzah for more RPG stuff. I'm a backer on this and it's looking pretty sweet.

Josh Sawyer is awesome. This is one of the best EXs I've seen.

Excellent first impressions! Definitely the Kickstarter project I'm by far the most excited for. Possibly among the games I'm most excited for after seeing this. Playing through Shadowrun Returns recently actually left me reasonably impressed but this looks like it has the potential to be truly great without the "for KS" disclaimer.

Well, that and it's made by a fair amount of the same people behind what I consider some of the most outstanding RPGs ever made. Between SR, the good impressions Wasteland 2 seems to make so far, this, Divinity and the long standing standard for KS projects, FTL, it couldn't be that there's actually something to this crowdfunding thing, could it?

I've always loved how the Infinity Engine games looked. It's arguably one of the best looks you can get for an RPG in my opinion -- So yeah this looks pretty great.
