Quick Look: EX: Planetary Annihilation

Looks potentially interesting. Unfortunately I cant play RTS games unless there's a way to slow down time or pause and give orders. I just get too overwhelmed.

Moons people. Those are moons. Moons orbit a planet and planets orbit a star or stars. Driving me crazy.

Same here, it was a bit too early in development when they first got on greenlight, haven't touched it since, but looks like it's shaping up.

I still kinda prefer the C&C model over TA, but I vastly prefer both over the Blizzard model that has been dominating the RTS genre for the past decade. I hate their hero units, supply limits, selection limits and the general feel of those games. The general design principles that Uber say the follow here sound pretty appealing to me, so I'm happy this is happening.

Moons. Those things orbiting the planet aren't planets, they're moons. Planets (usually) orbit stars. Moons (always!) orbit planets. It is known.

People making a game with "Planetary" in the title should probably have some grasp of what a planet is.

Hey I remember Brad. So did the "community" disliked him or something? I remember him being alright in my book. Interesting seeing him showing a game on GB though.

I loved the everloving crap out of Total Annihilation. It's what got me into the genre.

I forgot that everyone in that band looks like Dax Shepard with varying hair color.

Or is dosen't really and you are just one of those people that feels a need for sharing your taste in music needlessly.

holy shit that single player mode is like Star Wars empire at War, I am so in on this.

After watching this, I immediately dropped the $30 on the game.

I do not regret it.

@xbob42: I've played both and at least currently ZeroK is A LOT better than PA. You wrote the game off without even trying it so yea it does sound like production values are everything to you.

I think that looked pretty fun. Purchased.

The only thing I remember about this was the odd decision to charge $90 to play the alpha.

I was never into these large scale RTS like Supreme Commander where you lasso a huge blob and throw it at the enemy. I know I'm a crazy person but I still want Dark Colony 2. Make that happen.

I hate to be the cynic, but the fact that they thought that moving from "beta" to "gamma" was a good idea is horse shit. What they had before wasn't feature complete. It was an alpha build. Why can't companies just admit that their "open betas" are just cheap alpha testing instead of throwing around random-assed greek letters to tell their customers that progress has been made? All it does is tell the less savory developers that they can release an incomplete game, and continue to get away with marketing their unfinished junk as long as they dictate their updates through the greek alphabet. It's really upsetting to see a decent developer setting a precedent that will no doubt lead to much seedier practices.

I kickstarted this game. I just want to know when they consider it 'done'; it's already been on sale on steam. I love macro-heavy experiences with deep tech trees.

Brad Nicholson is, as always, imitating a real human being almost perfectly.

I was only vaguely interested in this game and then I watched this and now I need it.

Well after having watched the QL I can now say I learned absolutely nothing about this game. The devs just sort of played and talked without explaining what was happening at any point.

Yea, this scale type of RTS games are just not my speed. Give me SC or C&C with their campaigns any day. Or just go nuts with 4x TBS.

Neither are extended "betas" you can pay for.

I remember Supreme Commander...got a new PC near the game's release, put that game on, and the PC ran like as if it was 8 years old!

I was just thinking today about how I still feel relatively new to Giant Bomb and now you're all talking about Brad Nicholson. I started to coming to Giant Bomb when they were still in Sausalito and you're making me feel young.

When you use the name "Spider One" you kind of have to look like that!

Also, being Rob Zombie's brother might have something to do with it. If my brother was crazy goth guy I'd be doing the exact opposite too.

I liked Sins of a Solar Empire a lot. This looks like it, but with better graphics.

Except SC was bad, so let's say it's like TA instead and we'll feel much better about the game.

I don't know. A meteor the size of Texas supposedly wiped out the dinosaurs and caused a nuclear winter-style fallout for thousands of years. You'd think a moon would do a lot more than just leave a tiny smoking crater.

Brad Nicholson's voice is like a combination of Brad Muir and Dan Ryckert.

When in the video do they launch the moon at another planet? I don't have time to watch the whole video...

Game seems cool enough, but the price tag is a bit high for me.

I got it off the Steam sale right now for € 23. Totally worth it. The game is a ton of fun. It's basically Total Annihilation 2.

It's way too easy on Normal though. Probably should play on Uber.

Those planets look really nice. Crisp and colorful without looking like animation. Really nice.

I love the way fabrication is portrayed, it looks really cool. Also the notions interplanetary combat explored here are neat. I'd like to see what a 50 person game looks like.

As a game however this falls into the same boat for me as Eve. Send me a newspaper describing how this goes but I don't really want to watch it all play out. Oh also I hope a hybrid of this and Eve exists sometime in the future because goddamn that would be fun to hear about.

Fair enough, didn't help though that SC ran like poopoo when it came out and from was told from friends it was pretty unbalanced. Like even worse unbalanced than late game Core
