Quick Look: EX: The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

This looks pretty cool, but it's driving me a little crazy that they limit the scope of it to the USA. A huge part of what's cool about XCOM lore is that it's a global endeavor. It's all of us bonding to face a common threat. Moving the scope to America-fuck-yeah is fucking lame. Shit, even the implication that XCOM was founded by Americans makes me itch. I mean look at the borders of that strategic map. They are actively not giving a shit about their neighbors.

Surely I'm not the only one that loves the XCOM scenario at least partially because of the exotics of a battlefield stretching from tropical islands to metropolitan city centers, where Germans, Indians and, yes, Americans, fight together for a common good?

I'm thoroughly interested.

Oh boy this made me wanna play Enemy Unknown.

And also this looks pretty good.

Well, I think we can take solace in the fact that even if this game doesn't turn out to be as pants-shittingly awesome as Enemy Unknown, it'll still be a decent-to-good tactical shooter. We won't be making comparisons like we were with Telltale's The Walking Dead vs The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. This, hopefully, at least won't be regarded solely as "that other XCOM game."

Usually not a fan of EX quicklooks (unless they have a big personality like Muircat/Johnny V), but this one is interesting to me just because the game has changed so much so many times.

I also want to echo the statement that the hud doesn't fit.

It really made me play some more X-COM.

This looks way better than it has any right to look. I like they're sixties looking sci-fi gizmos and poor-mans-Don-Draper.

I'm actually really impressed by how this game is turning out. I like the integration of the squad commands into seamless action similar to Mass Effect. Not to mention the integration of cover and elevation.

I'm totally in for the final product now.

I love Enemy Unknown but I always wanted to play this game. I just miss the oily alien possessions.

You should play Mass Effect 3 online on Gold or Platinum. It's very tactical. It's actually the only shooter I know off where you cannot win if you don't co-operate.

Honestly, this bothers you?

You have to admit, the "international" aspect of EU was a little thin. Everyone spoke perfect English and there was nothing distinctive about the locations you fought in to invoke a feeling of a "global" conflict.

Usually these QLEX's are pretty dry. Very pleased this was not the case with this one. Lots of laughs and people having a good time!

This actually looks really cool. Shame it comes out on the same day as Splinter Cell and Saints Row 4...

I like how they throw the original story of the forming of X-COM right out the window, for this. So I say, fuck this game.

On December 11, 1998, representatives from the worlds most economically powerful countries gathered secretly in Geneva. After much debate, the decision was made to establish a covert independent body to combat, investigate and defeat the alien threat. This organization would be equipped with the world's finest pilots, soldiers, scientists and engineers, working together as one multi-national force. This organization was named the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit.

This looks surprisingly awesome. Will be sure to pick it up

I'm really not liking that radial menu for the combat orders. In my experience those interfaces never translate well to the PC. Otherwise, this looks great. I hope there's some base defense involved at some stage of the campaign, enemy unknown was a bit of a let down in that regard.

best EX quick look solid and funny from the developers, i liked what i saw at e3 and i still like what i see from this showing. could not get into xcom unknown but this is a style of game i like it reminds me alt of freedom fighters and i loved the shit out of that game.

something about the civilians not having any animation and just standing still seems oddly cool.
