Quick Look: Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

I heard this game had some blur issues but this is nuts.

I'll get this at half price down the line I think.

@fobwashed: the dodging with some characters swings the camera around so much I get kinda sick when playing and I NEVER got motion sickness before in my short 23 year life

I wonder why they thought this motion blur was a good idea. I get that it's there to try to mask that this is a PSP game, but this is just insane. I never get motion sick from playing games, and this is making me dizzy after 15 minutes.

Been really diggin this.

The combat looks fun and the setting sits well with me, for sure. But going by this quick look there doesn't seem to be a story worth looking at? Maybe someone can give me some insight.

Edit: Never mind. I took a look at what Alexa wrote which told me more than enough. Good times.

@maximumslime: From what I've read of reviews and forum chatter, the story is mostly nonsense and the localisation and VO is pretty bad. So it seems like a game t get for the gameplay.

Every once in a while I need a reminder that my taste in games isn't what it used to be. 10 years ago this game would have been my jam. These days, not a chance. Makes me a little sad.

@amyggen: The main story is difficult two follow but is not nonsensical, individual stories are better. Also, there is a option for japanase VO.

Vaping enters the world of Final Fantasy. Also, why is this game so foggy? I can barely see anything on that overworld.

It's great to see Alexa make her GBQL debut! Pity it was for a Final Fantasy game, though...

This game is a very good example of how not to do motion blur. Crysis 1 did it excellently a long time ago.

I might pick this up but I'm going to wait and see if they patch some issues out.

My motion sickness headache kicked in after 15 minutes of video. Of all times they could have actually put a focus group to good use..

After 32 minutes of video my head hurts so bad I have to stop. If this is what those of you not strangers to motion sickness from games experienced, I feel you folks very much - this sucks so bad. 16-20 hours to shake it off, going by the sessions I had with Type-0 HD before I gave up and got a refund.

I'm no expert on this game, but even I know that Deuce is OP and hardly the worst character.

So, i'm pretty early on, a chapter before the QL, but the basic story so far is:

There is four nations in this world with a crystal each one of them (associated to Four Symbols of Chinese mythology). They give powers to most people (Magic, dragons, being technology savvy) but they can not remember the dead people. White Tiger Nation goes fascist and HitlerCid takes control of the crystal and tries to conquer the world.

Akademy (Hogwarts equivalent here), from Vermillon Bird Nation, barely survives the initial attack because a top secret class of anime stereotypes that don't use crystal energy directly. The Akademy is supposed a school for training FantasyJesus (Agito) but the military decides to move as they try to recover territory. Class 0 is forced to attend to school, make friends and be less arrogant as their creepy teacher (the scientist that they call her mother) transfer two students, ill girl Rem and 'MY BROTHER IS DEAD ('though I don't remeber him') Machina. Together, they fight in a heartless war while buying swimsuits for fetch quests.

Also, FFXIII terms are throwed there but without a glossary. It seems the rules are the same (Crystal/God wants you to do your 'focus' and gives you superpowers) but they seem to go full DBZ this time around and don't have feelings.

Obviously, shit is going on behind everyone backs (Akademy scientist/sorceres acting creepy when the subject of Class 0 power source is brought, Cid keeps saying HOPEHOPEHOPE, forgeting the dead seem to not do a much to people mental state, creepy blood sucking machines, creepy mother figure), but you will miss half of that if you don't talk to NPCs or do SocialLinks.

What the hell why do so many people have a hard time knowing what a l'Cie and a fal'Cie are? They explain it to you in FF13 pretty fucking clearly.

More Alexa is always welcome. I also enjoyed the "quicklook" on Gamespot that she and Jeremy did for XV.

@donchipotle: For one, no one seems to care about the l'Cie and fal'Cie crap. I know I didn't. Second, a fiction should stand on its own when it comes to important story beats, while this game seems to expect you to have played XIII to understand some general world concepts, despite specifically not being a sequel to it. It's laziness.

Can't tell if the motion blur is actually making me woozy, or if it's just confirmation bias like Brad said. But it sure FEELS real.
