I mean if you think the story is kinda shitty then whatever, but I don't really find anything about it confusing or hard to follow. It just likes to compete with Bungie on who can use more proper nouns.

I never liked motion blur in games, also the camera work is just poor in this game, too up close, too swim-my. I am going to guess that's a new problem that Square has yet to solve since they transition to a more action focus combat system for their game. FFXV demo showed similar issues.

I don't get why people hold FF4 so highly. I started with 7, went back to 6, loved it, played Chrono Trigger also great, and was looking forward to 4, but I just found it ok, nothing too great. But it was enough to put me off to play and finish 5. Still need to do that eventually.

Also 30 hours is pretty low end for a FF game. Plus the older games are possibly even longer partially due to grinding, which is something I would happily leave behind.

Just noticed this game is rated M? Since when FF start getting M rating?

Thank you. Though I did find myself pretty much replacing fal'Cie and l'Cie as "angels" and "gods" in my head sometimes to make it more understandable. But I did love how morally gross the fal'Cie were sometimes - some straight up Greek / Roman gods type sh*t they pulled.

When you think about it, did Alexa really actually spoil anything about said "story"? She said some words about somethings and some characters that may or may not have anything to do with this game. If she didn't understand it herself could she really have spoiled it for anybody?

I'll probably pick this up though at some point for $20 or so. Combat looks great and seeing an overworld again made me all tingly inside, but MAN these characters and their VO. I just could not care less about them to even try and make sense of anything story wise.

It sucks that this and FFXV have such terrible voice acting for the english versions. I usually don't switch to japanese too often in games, but these two I may have to.

Getting Alexa in on this quick look was a great idea. This was a good watch.

It's really not that hard to understand. Fal'cie were essentially gods, and L'cie were the chosen ones that were branded by the gods. Not all Fal'cie are bad, but if the L'cie don't accomplish the goals that their respective gods gave them, they would be turned into monsters essentially. If they did accomplish the tasks, they would be granted immortality... sort of.

I kinda dig the concept of massive battles between armies with strategic summons.

@soimadeanaccount: if you do get ffv try to spring for the gba port if you can since there is a ton of extra content, quicksaves, subtle upgrade in graphics and sound, and better translations compared to the ps1 port. Have fun.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with people not liking every game I do, but when someone says that it's confusing and that they don't know the difference between the two and that it sucks because of that, I just can't take them seriously. fal'Cie = god ("god-like being" technically) and l'Cie = Servant of said god-like being. I understood this and remembered it after the first time I was told.

Could be the turnpoint of a battle in fact. And this unit, she says is bad.

I've never played this, but I'm willing to bet that it IS in fact an enhancement unit which could provide more than most think.

Just look back in the ff world for a sec. Bards weren't that bad. In fact (spoiler alert) even a bard stopped OMEGA WEAPON in FFV!

They also provide the party with oh idk, attack, haste, defense and magic resistance.

It's one of the rules in rpgs. Bards provide with strength, defense and magic resistance. They could sometimes also raise your max HP. Sometimes not everything though, it depends of which game you're playing.

Maybe I should also include a FFIV character as welll... Edward. The later harps he had, kicked ass!

I feel like the story of 13 justifies why you are always moving forward. People love to hate on 13 but it was a pretty good game and it had one of the best combat systems of any FF game.

Deuce (Flute Bard) is useful in certain situations. She can heal people without needing a cure spell or cast buffs/debuffs and control enemies or, if you're feeling saucy, she can become offensive and do damage. It's a trade off because her health is pathetic.

Deuce is pretty cool.

If this comes to PC then I'll probably pick this up.

I didn't watch the whole video (got about 2/3rds in) because it started getting pretty deep into spoiler territory and I'm playing the game, but Alexa didn't quite seem to grasp the game's systems in full. The killstrike/critical strike systems in particular are important to grasp (especially if you're going to go and take on level 28 missions while your team is mostly sub-20) and she didn't quite seem to get it. The various enemies have tells and you need to hit them when the killsight symbol is on the enemy for insta-kills. Enemies with multiple health bars get the yellow critical strike version and hitting them while that's active takes out one health bar.

She also didn't quite seem to grasp the characters having different play styles, but not liking how Seven and Deuce play is fine, so it's not too big a deal. I was mostly put off by their willingness to dismiss the story and spoil it for people like me who might care a little bit about it. Oh well, can't win them all.

ugh I can't even watch this, the blur is just nauseating.

How does anyone actually play this... as soon as they got control of the camera I thought I was going to hurl.

@PrezAbeLincoln Honestly, I rarely to never manually control the camera and when I do, it's almost never when I'm in motion. The benefit of this being a PSP game is the engine was designed to have an automatic camera system. It does work reasonably well and the motion blur is minimized when it's acting on its own.

Alexa is awesome, and you guys should enlist her help more often! I'm playing this game and liking it too. The motion blur doesn't bother me much, but I would turn it off or lower the setting if I could.

@brad Maybe give Bravely Default a try if you want a new take on turn-based FF.

Brad's realization about Selphie was funny to me because I had the same one just a couple of days ago.

I'm having a lot of fun with Type 0. I'm only 4 hours in but this is what I am looking for in a FF game. And the story is so brutal and head-wrenching. I look forward to many more hours of this game.

Just got about 20 min into the QL and I've learned way too much about the story than I cared to. I really hate it when someone says, "I don't want to spoil anything, BUT...." and then spoils story plots. I hope this does not become common.

I haven't watched the video because of spoiler warnings, but from what I remember of 13 (which I only played once; when it came out) the Fal'Cie are great monstrous angel things that blame humanity for God leaving the planet, and attempt to use their branded/mindcontrolled servants the L'Cie to destroy the world (this they are blocked from doing themselves somehow) . The Fal'Cie are kind of nihilistic at that point, and figure that the end of the world will either grant them death (they're immortal and really aren't happy with that) or bring back God do deal with the situation.

I mean, at the beginning of the game you only know that Fal'Cie brand humans into L'Cie in order to have them do their bidding, but the rest is explained.

This game should be on Vita. That motion blur is quite spectacular.

Alexa was not bad for a debut, but not quite there yet. Hopefully, not her last appearance.

Type 0 and XV seem terrible.

@prezabelincoln: Some people can endure it. I don't have problem with the blur or the camera (unless is a corridor), so I'm having a ton of fun with the game but I know a lot of people would not so that is a shame because there is a pretty awesome game behind the PSP graphics masked by a shitty blur effect.

Also, I already in Chapter 7 and I must say: MACHINA SUCKS

Glad I read the comments before the watching. I wanted to see if I was interested in this and the story seems like something that should remain unspoiled. Gotta find some other coverage to meet my needs. Sad I don't get to see Alexa, hope next QL they don't spoil shit so I can watch it

Holy fuck, that camera. I got a massive headache during that frozen cloud section. Way worse than I got when playing Half-life 2 using red-cyan 3D glasses.

Up to that point I kinda wanted to get this, since the combat looked pretty fun, but with camera motions like that ... I don't know.

To those confused by the screams about spoilers - I think it's just that they start at chapter 5.

edit: Okay, they seem to go spoiler heavy in their conversation around minute 20. It's technically not a new game, and they seem to treat it like that with regards to spoilers.

Everything they obscure with the nauseating motion-blur, and they somehow make the chocobo's butt super high-def and then shove it right into the focal point of the screen. Good allocation of art assets there.

The problem is just that none of them care about the story and she just kinda launches into that conversation full stop without considering that someone might. She's so flippant about it that it's actually not that bad in truth but it's a little frustrating considering how fragile they might treat spoilers in something they were more invested in.
