Why does all the assets look so low rez and/or low poly?

Why do the cars look like cement boxes? They don't dent, they don't crumple, they don't compact. Nothing!

Because it runs at 60 fps, as oposed to most last gen racers that ran at 30. Even Xbox 360 Forza games run at 30. This sacrifices visuals for controls. No explanation for the cars though.

Actually, only Forza Horizon ran at 30FPS. Forzas 1-4 ran at 60FPS.

You've probably been quoted about this before but I'm not going through four pages to make sure.

I see a lot of harsh opinions about this game. I've been playing it for the past few days and I'd like to say to all who've commented on it's poor visuals that it looks much, much nicer on a PS3 than it does in a compressed internet video. That's true of every game but I think it's especially so with this one. Some of the weather effects and some of the roadside details viewed still and up close admittedly don't look that great, but the car models do and the lighting quality is a big upgrade over GT5. Also unlike GT5, it runs in native 1080p, which is pretty awesome for a PS3 game. Overall, I think it looks quite good considering the hardware limitations.

It's understandable that many don't see a reason to be interested due to this series' seeming lack of change over the years, but I think the Polyphony has made a fair number of improvements here that add up to a much more enjoyable experience than the last game was. Knowing the developer, I didn't expect any drastic changes to the formula with this iteration, but l've always enjoyed what GT has done well and figured another set of refinements to the driving model + a hopefully more sensibly designed overall package would be worthy of a purchase. I wasn't disappointed. The improvements are mostly subtle, but they are there and fairly numerous. One of the primary things the team put their work into, the new physics modeling, is pretty much impossible to appreciate from watching a video, yet I noticed a difference in the feel immediately when I started playing it. The selection of cars and tracks is immense, the feeling of handling those cars is as great as it's ever been, and they've fixed pretty much everything that annoyed and frustrated this player about the last game. For some this just isn't good enough and that's a valid response, but for me and what I want most from a driving game, what they've delivered here is pretty satisfying.

After spending quite a bit of time with Forza 5, this looks almost cartoony.

Anyone have any tips on how to beat the kart races in national A? Those are the only stars I'm missing and I wanted to get all starts before moving onto the international. I gilded the first race on the first try but havent even completed the second race on about 20 tries. I keep spinning out and find myself more than ten seconds back in the third lap so I just restart.

Yes! Turn them off. Learn the track. It's much much more satisfying to win a race that way.
