This looks like it was poorly thrown together, a lot more could have went into this Remaster.

Alex sounds fine, Vinny sounds like he is talking through Alex's mic from a few feet away.

That room with the "weird camera angles" that is "hard to navigate" is the reason this game has "tank controls" because when the controls aren't relative to the camera there is no problem navigating properly when the camera angles change.

This game will always be an enigma to me. When this game came out in 98 my dad bought it, OoT and MGS for me for Christmas. (Best Christmas ever) I was so excited that I put Grim Fandango in first. And....I thought it sucked. I didn't find it funny, the interface and the puzzles confused the hell out me, i just wrote it off as a broken mess and moved on to Zelda. 16 years later and now people are praising it like its one of the all time greats. Was I just too young to understand it at the time or are all of you just bat shit crazy?

@themikfc: You're not alone, it's a great game if the humor is your type and you get the references. It also has the mechanics of a 90s adventure game, with weird, archaic puzzle solutions. It's not for everyone, but it's a great nostalgic piece for those that enjoyed it at the time.

I never got to play this originally, so I'm excited to enjoy it for the first time.

@g24s: I just finished Grim Fandango this week (played it for the first time), and this particular song really reminded me of Monkey Island!

Vinny Calavera, out on new (old) adventures.

Slevin Kelevra makes me think of Vinny, too.

Man, the previous GBEast videos had really good audio, maybe even better at the mixing stage than GB in SF.

Anyway, I need to get this on Steam ASAP, the commentary alone seems worth it.

You know... I think adventure game Quick Looks might be my favourite sort of content on the site. They're very relaxing!

I should play some more adventure games.

I love this game so much. The music is fucking brilliant, and I actually really appreciate what they have done here in preserving Grim and remastering it instead of trying to do a 'remake'. It's sort of like when something is captured on tape instead of film; even if they managed to get to the original Grim resources, they'd be made explicitly for that resolution. You would have to redraw all of the art, re-take the cutscenes, and it would just never work.

Even in fantasy land where they actually attempted it, chances are something would be off, it just wouldn't feel right. Do you re-do the animations? The pathing? Add hints and streamline the more obtuse puzzles? Where do you stop? I think the balance they've struck here is the best way to preserve this generation of games.
