Not the greatest quicklook IMO, there's a lot more to the game than what they showed. Guess they didn't have much time with PAX and all. Shame.

Complaining about the exposition is also a bit weird, considering they're basically still in the tutorial. Also, they didn't seem to realize sprinting costs life, which is odd considering that was like the most fundamental gameplay element in the first game.

I knew nothing about this sequel before now, but as a fan of the first game, what I've seen in this QL looks good to me. The heavier emphasis on story/dialogue is a little weird but it might help keep the game from becoming repetitive like the first one did (a little bit) by late-game. $20 might be a little steep though.

Also, your health drains when you dash.

this seems like way too much narrative. Half minute hero was a fun jump in and do a couple levels game, this seems like there's so much shit between levels.

Might get the original game's remake on steam though.

It still looks charming and funny but now it's enough like a real RPG that I also have zero interest in playing it.

If you have the first game on Steam, you automatically get a 25% discount on this one. You can also currently buy the first one in the Groupees Be Mine 12 bundle for pretty cheap: http://groupees.com/bm12

Villager: "The thieves stole the time goddess statue. It was extremely heavy but they managed to haul it away!"

Time Goddess " The time goddess is not heavy!"

I forgot how much I liked the dialog in this series.

I kind of remember the first one being a little wordy, but Jesus christ this just seems to go on and on with 12 year old boy RPG story. I might grab it if it does eventually make it to the vita.

I only got like 5-8 missions into the first one (on Steam), and stopped playing it. It wasn't bad or boring, I think I just got minorly stuck and it was late at night or something, and never came back to it? Maybe some other exciting game came out and distracted me, and the game isn't so great that it drew me back once that other game was done.

Complaining about the exposition is also a bit weird, considering they're basically still in the tutorial. Also, they didn't seem to realize sprinting costs life, which is odd considering that was like the most fundamental gameplay element in the first game.

I'm positive they didn't play the game beyond recording the Quick Look (including playing it for an hour or two before or after), and while dashing-costing-life is a key part of the risk/reward of the basic gameplay, they probably only played the original game for like 2-3 hours total, like 3 or 4 years ago or whenever that was. They didn't review it.

I think their inexperience is especially evident because if either of them had played the game significantly, they'd know you have to actually go towards the objective most of the time, and you usually can't afford to burn your first like 25 seconds just grinding on low level enemies near the starting village because the Goddess payments escalate so quickly.

My point is, don't chastise them for forgetting a mechanic in a game they barely played like 4 years ago. Instead chastise them for not noticing fairly obvious things in the UI.

I do agree that Vinny and Brad's impatience for the dialog seemed a little silly. Yes, the game is broken up into comically short quests on a frantic timer, but it's still a JRPG with a story, even if the story quality isn't much more than super early Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.

The whole game is way too chatty, it's not just the start. There's a whooole lot of writing that attempts to be funny (it isn't) and isn't particularly important story-wise since it's mostly fluff text. The game is a lot better once you start skipping every dialogue sequence.

Brad reviewed the 360 version. Still though, that was a while ago, so it's not all that odd for someone to forget about it.

Having played the original this seems about right for a sequel. There may be more dialogue filling out the gaps but I think it's easy to forget how much interstitial bullshit was in the first game. Intros and outros everywhere, fiddling with menus. Instead, this seems like "hey here's more dialogue but just keep going."

Which I guess means the highs aren't as intense but they cut out a lot of the lulls. This assumes you're entertained by the dialogue which I think is keep pace so far with the original. I think where I burnt out though on the first game was the quest repetition if you wanted to get certain items and see everything. This is speaking nothing of how little I touched the other eras after I was done with the first.

I don't know if I'll play this because that first game might have burnt me out for good but we'll see. Good to see they managed to finally get this out though.

Ah, my bad, I looked up the original PSP version and saw no one reviewed it.

OK, that's just unforgivable then. It's a wonder he got very far in the original version with his terrible playstyle. You should almost never waste time just walking around in circles fighting random encounters (you should always be on your way to something) and having reviewed the XBLA version 3ish years ago, while I don't expect him to know all the alternate modes inside and out, you'd think he would've played the main mode enough to remember that dashing drains your HP.

These are quick looks. They have stated in the past that they are intended to give the viewer an idea of what kind of experience they will have if they go and pick up the game and start playing. If Brad didn't know running drains HP, then he probably wont be the only one who doesn't notice, he plays games professionally after all. If they publish a review and still haven't realized, then you have a reason to complain.

So I said to myself: "That Time Goddess is a regular Tom Nook!". Then I thought about how I hoped "Tom Nook" would be absorbed into the English language, and commonly used to describe money-grabbing landlords or estate agents by the non game-playing general public. Then I thought, "Hah, it's like new-age rhyming slang!". Then it occurred to me that 'Tom Nook' rhymes with 'Crook'.

ALL THIS TIME.

@pondwhale: The quick look starts past the first mission. The Time Goddess does explain that you can dash with no penalty during global time, but during quests it will drain health. So yes, if you skip the tutorial dialog you might not notice right away.
