Quick Look: inFamous: First Light

Yeah, inFamous: Fetch Quest.

I just got Second Son from Gamefly today. This is right in my wheelhouse.

inFamous: Zero Thing?

Is this some kind of new-fangled prequel to Metro: Last Light?

This just doesn't seem like it is worth it for the $20. It doesn't look bad, but doesn't look like something I need to shell out money for when there is just so much great stuff coming in the next few months.

One of the worst Quick Looks Giant Bomb has ever done. They start with an annoying amount of disinterest, add in a healthy amount of bitching and moaning, then throw in some misinformation to top it all off! (it's $15, not $20).

Nothing about this right. The battle arenas are great. I hate to be "that guy" but if you actually play this game WELL the combat becomes super exciting and tense. Most people who played through Second Son on expert mode probably know what I'm talking about.

I think I've had about all I can stand of cynical, whiny Jeff. ANY game can be made to look boring and terrible by adding two apathetic, monotonous voices say "yeah..." and "hmmm..." all the time.

Thank god for Dan and Metal Gear Scanlon, right now that feature and UPF are the only things keeping my subscription alive.

This QL is depressing.

I think it's absolutely worth 15 bucks if you liked Second Son.

The traversal and combat are the biggest strenghts of that game and they're even better here. Racing around the city catching the neon clouds that boost your speed feels great and I like the new spin they gave the power set.

The story is alright, it still looks gorgeous and I for one like the arena challenges they added with this. It's absolutely not lacking content considering the price.

That being said if you're not into the gameplay then you should pass though that is true for Second Son as well. The story is not strong enough to carry it on its own.

I thought it was well worth the $15 I paid and I'm not even a huge fan of the series. It'd be cool if they added more arenas in the future. I never usually like those types of modes but it really worked for me and I'll definitely be coming back to it even after my platinum.

Infamous Second Son was really fun at first... but by the end of the game I was bored. The missions became repetitive, the TV powers were underwhelming, the enemies were a step backwards from Infamous 2, and the world wasn't as alive (giant monsters for example). Hopefully the next Infamous goes back to it's roots!

This was my time with Second Son as well. It started really well and I liked the build up to getting the Neon powers and all that jazz. Then I got to the back half of the game and realized that I just wasn't having fun anymore doing the same tasks over and over, and the combat loop was wearing thin on me. I struggled to finish that game, and by proxy finish the zones. And it's not like it was a long game either, I cleared all the districts and all the missions in around 12-14 hours and I guess that's all it took, cause I might never play another Infamous after this one. That's how bad I soured on this game going through it.

Bummed to see this DLC be light tangential story beads and combat arenas. Fetch is still rad though. Laura Bailey is the best.

I liked Second Son, but I didn't like the Neon powers at all. So maybe I'll pass on this one and see if they release an Augustine DLC or something.

This game needs a dubstep radio station.

inPHOmous? That's pretty great.

I just hate the combat in Infamous Second Son, so this is a no for me. The story is not nearly enough for me to throw another 15 bucks at what seems to be just some new missions of the same game.

To be honest, I'm kinda dissappointed at myself for buying Infamous for 60 bucks.

I feel I keep needing to justify myself when I say negative things about Second Son (and by association this) because I really loved the first two inFamous games, but I can't be bothered defending its mediocrity any more. The game this is a half-arsed reskin of annoyed me way more often than it thrilled me, and I can see those irritations still in this video. Count me out.

My main problem with the Infamous franchise is how dead the worlds always feel. The open world sound design has always been pretty bad (was it 2 that was completely silent when you were up on a roof? They kinda blend together for me at this point). If Sucker Punch is gonna keep making these they have to get that right in the next game.

This release almost feels to me like something that someone made after saying "Ok, Second Son came out pretty early in the console's life cycle, so lets release a thing that gets people who bought their PS4's way later interested in this game that came out a year ago so they buy the full game." I was a huge fan of the stand alone Halloween DLC they did for the last infamous, but yeah, this just seems....ehhh...

I dunno this seems okay for 15$. Really liked Second Son and especially Fetch so probably worth giving it a shot.

After so much Dan content on the site, it's weird to hear that old "please kill me" tone during a quick look again. Seriously I get that Brad never got into the game, and Jeff doesn't like to do side stuff in video games, but this is decent content for the price, and not exactly the crime that they are making it out to be.

I liked Second Son a lot. It wasn't as good overall as 2, but the graphics were outstanding and I still had enough fun to play though both good and evil for the platinum trophy.

But man, First Light is a bummer. It's all recycled stuff from the main game - it isn't even given a fresh coat of paint like Festival of Blood was - and the writing is singularly awful. I thought Sucker Punch's writing had been on a generally positive upswing since the first Infamous, but this feels like a big step back. Shane is just a horrible character with painful dialog.

I was super bored within an hour of booting it up.

That said, if I hadn't played Second Son, First Light would be one hell of a $15 downloadable game. The powers are fun, the graphics are great and it's pretty big for a piece of DLC. Unfortunately, it's all stuff I've done a million times already, in areas I've already spent too much time traversing.

Man, watching this just reminds me how completely disappointing Second Son was (as Infamous was my favorite new series of last-gen).

There are 2 more powers hes not unlocked, the game only costs 15 dollars.

I never payed second son, but I did play First light and thought it was ace. Worth my money.

Wow, looks shit. Super sad that they decided this was a good use of their time. Fetch is cool but why would I play as someone with Neon powers when I already can play as someone with Smoke, Neon, Video and Concrete? Really they should've just made DLC that added Paper to the game. Make good on the tease that was Paper Trail. Maybe a 6th power set as well.

Basically what I get looking at this is that I would rather just bum around in the original for an hour than play any amount of this.

I don't know what to tell you guys, I'm having a blast with First Light. I get that everything isn't for everyone, but I would imagine you should give things a chance before being a massive downer on it. Also Brad should replay Infamous 1/2 if he really thinks Second Son is slow, cause dude, your memory of that is bunk.

Infamous: Absolute Zero

I know that's a joke, but an inFamous with some creative use of ice powers would be good. I liked the little of it there was in 2.

I had fun with Second Son, it was my first PS4 game, and I agreed with her probably being the best character, but somehow I don't feel like playing this...

I wanted Infamous, second son, but it didn't work out. In retrospect I feel in the black for the decision. But someday with and for a PS4 that's now mine....

I didn't play Second Son and I'm having just enough fun with First Light to keep playing. The mission design is not that exciting and you don't have that much stuff to do. But the basic gameplay works really well. Everything feels super responsive, but I guess that was the case with the main game as well.

I like First Light and felt it was worth my $15. Too much negativity in this QL. If you stick with the story you only have to do like 3 of those combat scenarios. They are mainly there for replay value, not super integral to the game. Also Fetch plays pretty differently then Desmond with Neon powers with the boost spots and the overall mobility.

Is it worth getting if I'm an extreme Laura Bailey fan?

Really wish SP had spent less time on making battle arenas and more time on giving more content to the main story. Also FL does the same thing SS does by giving you some new powers after the credits but by which point there is nothing to use them on except the battle arenas.

I really like this game. I enjoyed Second Son just fine, but the improvements they made to the original game kind of make it hard to go back to. The challenge mode is super fun and I enjoy playing with one fully formed set of abilities instead of three half baked ones. And theirs only 24 trophies and one of them is a plat.

@berserker976: God yes, can't agree more. Such levels of uninterested, bored cynicism makes this unwatchable. It's the same reason I can't listen to their podcasts any more.

I'm sure there's enough people out there that like this style, but it's not for me.

I really disliked my time with the first two inFamous games, but Second Son had the right combination of visual oomph, interesting characters, and streamlined mission design, where I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm like one trophy away from my platinum in it too... I should go get that...

Infamous games are some of the only ones I platinum anymore, so I was pretty stoked for this, and it delivers. A lot of content here for 15 bucks, seems like a great deal

I really enjoyed my evil play through with Second Son but have no interest in going through again or playing First Light. I have to agree with Jeff that arena battles are not what I want from an Infamous game.

How is that hard to believe? I've been using it since the year it launched and it's been great.

I quite liked Infamous: Second Son and I might play this down the road. I couldn't really care less about the story but the gameplay and movement felt fantastic like all Sucker Punch games.

I don't know about this quick look though, I think Brad is remembering those first 2 games a little too fondly. The first one had enemies that could shoot you from halfway across the city and the second had that weird UGC stuff that didn't really fit. Sly 2 is still Sucker Punch's best game by far.
