Question to american folk, do you use your left foot to brake? In the UK it's left foot clutch all the time, right foot for accelerator and brake pedal.

I use my right foot for everything

Yeah, same here. Holdover from when manual was the main option, I suspect. Now that the majority of people use auto the left foot just sits there, doing nothing.

Find it weird how people don't know how to drive a manual. I've only ever ridden Motorcycles all my life and they're all manual unless you get them 500cc scooter things. I jumped into a car and picked it up straight away, it's exactly the same only you don't counter steer and you don't have much of a rev range.

@matoyak: On the rare occasion that I actually drive an automatic, my left foot usually tries to press down on an imaginary clutch-pedal whenever I'm about to stop the car. I get used to it after a while, but I prefer manual any day.

I was always told that's to avoid impulsively slamming on both the accelerator and the brake if you panic (cus I ain't no car-pro-man, but that'd probably be a bad thing to do?). If you train your right foot to operate both, then you'll just slam that foot down on one of them (and, presumably, that one would be the brake).

But yeah, I dunno. I like manual too; I think it's more fun and you feel more connected to the road. On the other hand though, I commute in and out of DC for writing / music work pretty frequently, and braving 495 in a manual always results in hell for me, so I've adjusted to pretty much just driving automatic.

<-- Long time giantbomb and iracing subscriber. Glad to see gb finally giving iracing some attention. I knew Jeff wouldn't like it, but overall, I thought it got a fair shake. You just aren't going to get this kind of racing realism in any other commercial product, right now. They laser scan the tracks, and even work with teams/manufactures when modeling the cars. It's not for everyone, but for some people, the immersion is fun. Plus, when you find out how hard it is just to get around the track without spinning out, the challenge can become quite engaging.
