Quick Look: Jalopy

The odometer works?.. didnt see that coming.

I finished the game in it's current state. It reminds me of stories my parents would tell about Yugoslavia.

EDIT: Quick tip, knock on every door in the motel to get some free money.

I haven't watched the quick look yet, but just based on the title and video desceiption, I have to ask: has the era of My Summer Car-likes begun?

I am still watching but have found this to be very entertaining so far.

ben using a high sensitivity mouse in first person games is always unpleasant to watch.

@stise: Pretty sure Jalopy was in developement long before MSC came out.

So about your question regarding the fans in the tunnel those are probably ventilation fans. I know that in Boston you'll see those humongous fans out in the tunnels out in the subway.

@sicamore: I once commented on a video that literally made me throw up and was called a pussy. I guess im a pussy since I was in the hospital on a morphine drip after having a foot of my intestines removed but I don't think they understand how hard it can be for some people to watch some of the hijinks. I couldn't watch Ben play vermintude for the same reason. It would be nice if he acknowledged it since many complain but it keeps happening.

@steveurkel: Ben has a specific approach so I doubt he will change his approach but hey here’s hoping for the sake of people sensitive to this stuff.

Should have to pass a driver's test to buy this game.

Yeah, I don't know about the States, but I think they're a fairly common feature in long tunnels here in Europe. The first time I ever noticed them was in a tunnel at Heathrow airport, and I thought they were just being cute and using plane-looking stuff as a gimmick, but I've since seen them in tunnels through mountains and so on.

This was painful to watch, surprised Vinny/Dan didn't do this QL.

Holy hell that mouse sensitivity makes it hard to watch lol.

i know quick looks are supposed to be quick, but.. ah.. okay?

@stise: this game is nothing like my summer car. Jalopy has a story it wants to tell you.

I wonder which game is the superior build-your-own-car sim:
Jalopy or My Summer Car.

If Jalopy's story expands more it could be a very interesting game.
I suppose Ben would have to either wipe the windshield somehow or perhaps install a windshield wiper in order to clean off the mud (perhaps add fluid for the wipers too?)

I got ~20 hours on Euro Truck Sim 2, so I can see myself enjoying this.

I didn't notice the mouse sensitivity, but Ben's refusal to watch where he was driving stressed me out lol

holy shit Ben's dpi are so incredible high, i cant belive he plays fps games like that.

The atmosphere in this is really nice. Might have to grab this from the Steam summer sale.

Halfway through and Ben's refusal to ever close his trunk is baffling.

This very much seems like a game I want. Yes, I think so.

The Soviet Bloc look works surprisingly well in this.

The notepad popping up and down as you look at things and the noise that accompanies it is kind of bothering me. Ben can't drive.

@paulunga: I'm with you here. These last two QLs were bad. Don't know if it's because he was bad at the games or because he did a poor job explaining anything. Maybe we don't have to QL every game guys.

Ben, I wanted to watch this but had to give up because your constant mouse movement was making me ill. I've noticed the same thing in other videos where you're at the computer, like the original Vermintide 2 stream. Remember that you have an audience, please.

Would it be possible to pull back from the 'Let's be ironically terrible because that's funny' thing? Just a bit. Thanks.

It's really annoying how Ben sort of flails around going "lol I don't know what I'm doing" when he's supposed to be showing off a game. We get that you're new to this game. Maybe slow down a little and take the time to understand the game is trying to tell you and you'll be less confused?

@magicalex84: That's just kind of his sense of humor -- which honestly I'm not too big on either. The beginning of the Minit QL is sorta in the same vein.

I looked up some other videos on Jalopy and found myself purchasing it based off other impressions; which is unfortunate for someone that's a fan of the site. I'm really enjoying this game! Maybe try it out!

@magicalex84: I said it before on UPF but this sort of coverage actively unsells copies of a game. I thought a bit of basic research went into quick looks before the filming took place. Maybe thats not the case anymore?

I wouldnt be so worried if this was a one off mistake but its becoming a constant trend in this sites gaming content.

They've never known how much a game cost or what platforms it's on, so I'm gonna say it was never the case.

@magicalex84: I know that's part of his shtick or comedy but I just find it to be tiring, especially when I'm actually trying to learn about the game.

I don't think Ben should drive games yet, give it time.
A few problems with his style but worst is his control makes me physically ill.

I just think this would be better if they got someone who could actually drive.

Eastern Europe was really low-poly back then.

Found this game to be less fun than it looks. Enjoyed getting to the first city but after that I found the driving pretty boring and a lot of the mechanics too clunky to keep going. Driving is especially clunky. Feel like anyone would look like a bad driver playing this.

I had the same thought but ended up having way more fun with it because of it. Ben clearly hasn't been exposed to a lot of the "passive" knowledge that's absorbed from being around/driving/maintaining cars his entire life.

For example, disregarding the fuel/oil mixture at first. It's absolutely a realistic mistake someone would make and I found the video (and game) richer for it.

I really think everyone would have benefited more from a more thorough Quick Look. I was hoping this wasn't just going to be an extension of its UPF segment. Jalopy is a really rad little game.

Always puts me in a good mood when I see it...
