Did you know that Guile was inspired by Stroheim in first JoJo ? And Benimaru of KOF was inspired by Polnareff in Part 3.

I'm kinda surprised Jeff didn't go straight for Jotaro considering he was his go to character in that other JoJo game.

I want to get into JoJo. Where should I start? The first season of the Anime is on Crunchyroll. Should just watch that and go from there? Or read the manga first?

I haven't read the manga, but the anime starts out pretty middling. The whole series is broken up into different parts, and the beginning of this quick look consists of the story from Part 1: Phantom Blood (with Johnathan, Dio, and Zeppeli). I found Part 1 to be pretty decent, but not quite as lively as Part 2 or Part 3. Part 1 still sets a solid foundation for the rest of the series, though... so perhaps it would be best to start there? I just wouldn't expect too much out of it until you get to Part 2 (Which starts at Episode 10 of the anime).

I wouldn't jump directly into Part 2, personally, as that would be super confusing... but I feel like you could, if you'd like, just jump directly into Part 3: Stardust Crusaders (which is currently airing), as it gives a brief synopsis of the events of Part 1 and Part 2 in the first episode (enough to let you understand what's going on).
Still, though... if you did that, there's a lot of great stuff you'd be missing out on in Part 2.

Yeah, the first season is definitely an easy entry point. it covers Parts 1 and 2, with the current season covering Part 3.

You can pick the manga up on Batoto.

@jeverage: There's also a Tibetan monk named Tonpetty, two students called Dire and Straights, zombies named Page, Bonham, Plant, and Jones, a priest Father Styx, Esidisi, Kars, Suzie Q, Santana. This only covers the first two parts.

I started by reading the manga around 10 years ago (the comic started around almost 30 years ago), and recently watched the TV anime. The TV anime is the sped up version of the books, so there might be some lost references (they skip the Danny's scene), and you might not have stronger connection with the characters, since the series kills off protagonists quite often.

Currently the manga has 8 parts, each part has different protagonists (around half of them are descendants of previous part), and somewhat different style, e.g. part one is very common hero story, part 4 is somewhat detective murder story, part 7 is a race across America, part 5 is pizza mozzarella.

I'd recommend starting reading from part 1, although part 3 might be the more popular one among the readers.

I'm watching the show because I want to have something to look forward to every Friday when it releases, even though the manga is tempting.

As for the manga, only the third part of the manga is brought over to the west and names are changed because of copyright issues. There's fan translations all over the internet though, and some of it isn't that good is what I've heard.

You can absolutely start with the anime, that's how I've absorbed my Jojo so far and it's great. Awesome music and the animation is really good when it's not running on pennies for a couple episodes (anime budgets and all).

I love JoJo but I wouldn't have known about it if not for the fighting game back in the late 90's. It's since become one of my favorite comics and cartoons of all time. To give you an idea for how crazy some of the musical references get, there is a stand that activates only after its user dies called Notorious B.I.G. So yeah they had to leave a lot of such references out of this localized version. I bought it on release because I'm a sucker for this franchise though I'm seriously questioning getting into the DLC characters which look like a goddamn rip off.

This quick look was hard to watch at times but still pretty good. Jeff is not wrong about the gameplay. It's about as bare bones as you can as far as fighting systems go. You even have a one button combo to make the fighting even easier if you want. It's really weird that this franchise spawned any 1 on 1 fighting games to be honest. The fights in the manga are less straightforward and more about the tactics of learning an opponents capabilities and adapting accordingly. It's just fucking bizarre. There's no other word for it.

Thanks, duders! I guess I'll go check out the anime first.

Also, the part where they scroll through the EULA is amazing. Or should I say, "Di molto good."?

For anybody interested in this game that hasn't read the manga, do not get it. It will not be for you. It's not a very good fighting game and is basically a giant fanservice game for JoJo's fans. On another note I hate the name changes. I hate it so much. I'm really glad I imported instead.
