Quick Look: Killzone 2 Multiplayer

Jeff I thought you didn't have the reflexes for competitive FPS? :-P  Good to see you still have it AND are modest about it. Game looks great. Just to clarify, rounds are at max 5min in duration during a Warzone match. It's usually a best of 5 or best of 7 in the match, so multiply 5x5 (25min) or 5x7 (35min) matches. There are a lot of options so it could be different now. I'm just speaking for the Beta. I'm loving the fact that they fixed the death animation delay to not exist.

I suppose the game should get points for what it does right, but... is there anything about this game that screams "this is a better multiplayer experience than call of duty 4/5 on the PC/xbox360, and worth making hype videos for"? Pretty graphics? The fact that you have to use a PS3 Pad to play an FPS instead of a kb/mouse or xbox pad?  I duno, seems like it's being hyped just because of the lore surrounding the original CG trailer. Call of Duty World at War offers an incredibly solid multiplayer experience, and is tons of fun to do all the cooperative stuff (campaign/nazi zombie mode). But strangely it was not important to give this game any credit. Just say "hey it's not exactly like COD4 therefore it's not worth hyping", then move on. But it's perfectly legitimate to hype Killzone 2 just because there's nothing else on the PS3 worth talking about. *scratches his head*

On a side note: did anyone find it odd Flower got 5/5 stars just because it looks pretty? Seems like there would actually be a standard in which a game needed to reach for that rating. Instead of "I happen to be in the mood this week for a half-baked artsy game, 5/5 perfect score". Brad reviews videogames the way an old lady would review a screensaver. Ah well..

The game looks great but it seems like the death animation doesn't kick in soon enough or something. Unless it was just really laggy and the dudes were still running a little after they were killed.

I don't really know you're getting at, but CoD4/5 was released on the PS3 aswell. Besides, Killzone 2 ain't getting a more extensive hype than Halo 3, which was just sort-of more Halo. If CoD5 got this much hype I'd have been disappointed when I played the game. You just have to expect every new FPS to end up in the jet-stream of CoD4, but it seems Killzone 2 has its own take on multiplayer and I'm looking forward to it.

This game makes Halo look like a low-tech Power Rangers episode and CoD like something old. A certain individual above never heard that almost all games are multiplatform, and even then the PS3 has some awesome exclusives like the Resistence series that has some interesting multiplayer option.  PS3 owners have actually more options than others.

Looks like I'll be playing this soon.  On my new PS3.  Went to Circuit City to buy some Microsoft points  and games at %40 off and ended up buying a new 80gig PS3 for $280 (did I just steal?).  Kinda told myself I was just going to resell it for a quick buck, but really knew I wouldnt.  Don't know how many consoles are left, but there was plenty of gaming material (wii balance/fit , Rockband, Guitar Hero new games) all at ridiculous discounts.It might depend on what store you go to, but its definently worth a look.

I'm looking forward to this game more than I initially thought I would.

I love the PS3, and I love Sony, but honestly, while Killzone 2 has stunning graphics the gameplay still looks like more of the same shit we've been getting for the past 10 years. While I know games are starting to get better and better, I think the shooting genre just needs to take a fucking break. Every other blockbuster title is a shooting game. After years and years of shooter after shooter, I feel like I've seen most of what shooting games have to offer. So I'll pass on Killzone 2, even if it's the best shooting game ever.

The multiplayer looks pretty sweet.  I can't  wait for this game.  :)

I'm pretty sure that's been fixed in the final build. It was definitely mentioned by one of the devs.

@ Frostedgamer: PS3 has as many top tier games as 360, and has only been out for half the time (check metacritic). It also has a stronger lineup for 2009, and has an exponentially improving PSN service. Also, graphics are part of games and entertainment just as much as music, story, and gameplay. That's why there's several awards at the Oscars for "graphics" such as best cinematography, best technical effects, best costumes etc. Killzone 2 is the best looking game to have ever come out on consoles, and arguably on PC as well since it uses dynamic blurring and the most advanced ragdoll to date. Also in case the dozens of gameplay videos out haven't demonstrated to you yet, it's also a fucking solid game to boot. There's plenty to be excited and hyped about for Killzone 2, which is actually fairly in contrast to games such as Halo 3 and COD: WaW which actually were rehashes of everything that's been seen and done before.

The multiplayer looks amazing.
Hopefully it'll start a trend with other games like COD 4 did when it first came out.

The only reason people try to put down other consoles is because they don't have them. People who have all of the consoles don't act like fanboys and make fools of themselves.
