Quick Look: Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom

Brad sounds like he needs a vacation.  Or a new job.

Bashing seems a bit strong.  
 
Taking the piss out of a game with recognizably shoddy elements (budget or not, it doesn't make them magically great cause it's on the cheap) but still having a good time sounds better. 
 
But I guess that takes longer to type.  The game looks interesting, but there's already too many better games out there I need to play first.

I know the ending - it's either A: the Majin dies/turns into some higher entity or B: the thief sacrifices himself and Majin lives on to carry the tale of a noble human.

how was putting more stones in the catapult not obvious enough?

I kind of want to try this, though.  I should check out the demo.

I've gotta be honest, I genuinely figured this was a Wii title until 'PS3 and Xbox' was mentioned!  
 
Those sure are some dated visual styles, to the point where I even thought "Yeah, this kinda looks bad for a Wii game, it's definitely got that PS2 vibe about it."

Kind of want this game based entirely on the fact the Majin looks like an excellent piece of character design. Love his animation, too.

I can't be the only person who hated the demo.

That bird is totally voiced by Vincent Price back from the dead.

I'll be honest I didn't get a "PS2 graphics" impression at all.  The game looks just fine.  Aside from that I just wanted to say I've just joined this site and I'm very impressed.  Love your guys' quick looks and I'll be looking forward to future ones.

Love Folklore, but played the demo of this and was turned of by everything about it. How were these games made by the same team?

game was on Amazon for 25 bucks last week.  Cheap as hell for a new game.  Think it is back up to 35 now.

hmm im with ya, for  having its issues theres something kinda charming about it. not to many boy and his dog type games anymore, whats better then a boy and his monster. 

It only took Vinny about 3 minutes to think of DBZ. 
 
Also, I can't help but think that one of those rats was voiced by the guy who voiced Teddy in Persona 4.

Finished this game the other day, really enjoyed it.

Despite the visuals I am interested in this game.

Good quicklook. I agree with Brad, there are some serious rough edges here, but there is something strangely compelling about the design. I wonder if it has a Japanese language track? Might give it a try later, probably be even cheaper by then.

How was Brad a douche? By saying it's linear but charming? I've heard worse things about better games, and I don't call douche. Just sayin'.
 
Game looks adorable.

The oddness of this gives an incredible sense of character that's honestly pretty cool.

One of those rats sounded exactly like teddy holy shit :O

A shame they didn't play the demo and realize they were covering the same ground for most of the QL.

Man, Majin makes me feel sad. Like for real, not some kind of sarcastic remark on the quality of the game.

That lizard looks exactly like the ones from Shadow of the Colossus, except painted red.

Brad has got to be the worst one when it comes to reading tutorial popups during Quick Looks, even if he sits on it for upwards of 30 seconds. Seriously, dude, I know you want to make the video interesting, but when you spend 5 minutes trying to figure out what to do because you don't want to take the 10 seconds to read the tutorial explaining it, that's much more frustrating.

I know that at least I find Quick Looks interesting because I like seeing gameplay and hearing commentary on it. I especially like the Quick Looks where they just toss the game in, but you need to pay attention when the game is telling you something. When we have ample time to read what you need to do, yet 30 seconds later you're clueless or in some cases downright forget what you were forced to do (not in this video, but in others,) it makes for much worse content than watching someone learn how to play.

I'm pretty interested, but probably not until after the holidays because I don't have any money >< Maybe it will be on sale again

seems ok,  it was directed by  Yoshiki Okamoto who produced the Street fighter and resi evil series which is quite surprising

This games doesn't seem bad for a budget title.

Te game looks pretty decent.

I like what I see. The little touches of jankiness make it more compelling to me somehow.

The one they refer to as "Don Bluth rat" is voiced by Crispin Freeman. Along with Dave Wittenberg (Teddie rat and the voice of the main character), those 2 are staples of a lot of Japanese games and anime.
