I absolutely love the gameplay of MGSV, and I was holding out hope for this game. But nothing about what I'm seeing here looks like fun to me.

I get the appeal of survival games, even if I'm not into them myself. What I don't get is the idea of taking the Metal Gear series, which has always been about giving you a million tools and weapons and making you feel like a badass stealth lord, and then making a game where all of those tools are withheld and making you the most helpless individual alive.

The lions share of the coverage for MGS:S has been done by the West Coast, so I am not that surprised they are doing the Quick Look. Having said that, I must admit I am a little disappointed that Dan isn't at all present for this....shit show.

Requiring an internet connection just to play is a no for me.

@kevin_cogneto: Weirder to me is that they took all that awesome dynamic gameplay from MGSV and replaced all of the enemies with dumb-ass zombies. Sneaking around outposts full of armed guards was one of the best parts of that game.

I loved MGS5 (best in the series IMO), and this looks like a neat novelty. I'm curious to see how far they go with those horrific mist monster things. I'll probably pick it up at some point when it goes on sale for ~30-40%.

(Also if GotY had a "best name" category, I'd nominate "Lord of the Dust" in a heartbeat.)

I've been having a surprising amount of fun with it.

If you want to be super a super Metal Gear nerd, MGS:V is not MGS: FIVE but it is MGS: Venom.

The harshness of this game just seems way over tuned.

That mist monster was cool though.

It's true that I'd have zero interest in this without the Metal Gear name. But whatever, those mechanics felt great and putting them in a completely new context is probably the right decision. If I wanna be stealthy, I still have plenty of things available in MGS V.

Considering you can't make a Kojima Metal Gear without Kojima, going completely crazy instead with giant fucking monsters is enough to get my attention. I had no expectations on story, so Brad hearing good things is an interesting surprise.

Ito Masahiro (the guy that designed Silent Hill monsters) being the monster designer is about the only interesting thing about this game for me, everything about playing it just seems like a huge chore and not fun at all, at least from watching the vids they have showed so far.

Brad's quip towards the end made me realize that I want a Syphon Filter game with modern controls in the Fox Engine.

Wrong. It is literally Metal Gear Solid Five, written out literally in Japanese that way. please stop with this horseshit that has no basis in reality other than fan theories.

Anyway for anything cool this game does it seems to do four other things that seem frustrating and totally uninteresting. Love the idea of a game in this engine with a big contiguous world and base that you go back to a build up in a bunch of different ways, but it seems they've gone and made it too harsh and lack the right touch to make it so worthwhile.

Maybe this will fund that MGS3 remake that they made a "concept" video of for that pachinko shit

Monster Hunter World has re-sparked the fantasy I have in my head of a new Syphon Filter. Sony Bend has more or less said "never again." But there are other studios who could handle it easily.

I don't care what engine would get used. It doesn't even need to be updated. I would pay $60 for a version of Syphon Filter Omega Strain on PS4 that I could play online with my friends again.

I don't know why they even let you into the multiplayer before like level 15.

It seems like a chore in the way that most survival games can be a chore, for example, surviving the winter in Don't Starve, but the rewarding thing about it is the feeling of conquering it, and progressing to some nice gear, and a kitted out base. Also, the idea of rescuing survivors who then work at the base is pretty cool.

The scientist woman in this QL sounded like Chie, and all I could think about for the rest of the video was a Persona game set in the Metal Gear universe. All the personae are Metal Gear bosses. And the guy with the nose in the limo is just Kojima. If only anyone at Konami still cared about video games and had a line to Atlas … D:

This whole game just seems like a hassle. I'm kinda interested in seeing it to see whatever dumb stuff they've done with the MGSV(-adjacent) setting, but the upkeep/navigation seems harsh, and it feels like they've stripped back the interesting parts of V (tools, interesting AI behaviour etc.) and not really replaced it with anything.

Kojima just hanging out in the Velvet Room sounds incredible. The Pain would make a great boss fight (wildcard mirror match) - he's basically already summoning Persona every time he yells "TOMMY GUN!" etc. [Pedantic note: It's Atlus. I mean, how else would you spell it?]

The hunger and thirst meters in this game are more tedious than all the PC survival games that they are down on.

This game just looks supremely mediocre. There's nothing offensively broken or outright bad but man there's nothing exciting about it at all.

This game seems as about as fun as hemorrhoids. Interesting yet bothersome.
But goddamn that Fox Engine is magnificent.

35 minutes of low visibility and talking about the long list of really lame things about this game, then one slow lumbering mist monster and immediately brad is back on board haha. Anything with loot, it seems Brad will switch-hopeful on a dime, which, bless him is a quality I don't have, hard pass for me.
