Vinny was really funny.  Mike was informative and played with a nice amount of abandonto show off a lot of the game's features in the time allotted.  Dave was both funny and informative and served as a nice bridge between the other guys.  Glad you guys did a do-over on a Napoleon quick look.  I never played any of the Total War games but I've seen a bit of all of them and always felt they had a great sense of place in each historical setting.  The battles always seem especially impressive and seem to have some kind of  depth that I'm sure I can't understand without playing it.  Quick looks are awesome.  Thanks again giantbomb.

I think anyone who is a Total War veteran will notice a lot of small changes by watching that video.  If you pay attention theres a lot of cool improvements.

  • Decent terrain deformation
  • More vibrant animations
  • Path finding seems to be a BIT better.
  • Formation control seems better, although like pathfinding it could be better.
  • Interface looks a whole lot smoother, focusing on the new forward/back/rotate controls
  • Graphically , it looks so much more varied, the maps are beautiful.

One thing though, when do we get pre-battle general speechs back!?

@Anthony: No, it means streaming works like YouTube, and Progressive means it has to download the entire video, and you can't skip into it.

The new player doesn't work on the PS3 browser :( This makes me very sad. I know it's Sony's fault the browser is crap, but I liked watching these on the couch. I don't know if I'll keep watching them now :/

Dude there's even more weird minor changes in napoleon.

For whatever reason it seems like they've taken out rank and fire, they've simplified town building a lot, and the turns go by the beginning of the month and the end of the month.

Something else I've read is that, they simulate armies a lot more strategically, weather affects them more because of the shorter turn cycle and they require supplies or suffer attrition.

But seriously THEY REMOVED RANK AND FIRE!?....My Prussian army isnt going to be happy AT ALL. I give it a week before someone mods it back in. Are you sure its just not higher on the tech tree?

I think they took it out because the game supports drop in battles, and they didn't want someone dropping in only to get murdered by another player who has rank and fire. And I've been talking to people who have been playing the game more than me and they can't find it either.

Oh man thats not cool, because I'd play as Prussia and aim for a highly discipline line infantry and rank and fire is kinda like my bread and butter :( Not to mention it was just awesome to look at.

Btw it looks like deployable spikes are maybe a bit better? I dunno

Has the person playing this QL ever played an RTS before?  Lol don't question why your guys are targeting a certain enemy when you're aiming them at that group.  Funny QL though.

No Rank and Fire. That is one of the key tactics for British and Prussian forces.
Oh well at least we get to run through Napoleon as compensation

My favorite in the Total War series is to make a high level kensai fight ashigaru. The lone swordsman vs an army. The AI I believed kept thinking it was getting flanked by 100% of the enemy and so the whole army went bait ball but it took forever. It was touch and go for a while there though.
