Quick Look: Rayman 3D

i remember getting this on iphone for free sometime ago. Controls were pretty much garbage but at least the framerate was buttery smooth.

Sucks for whoever got this for $40...

I'll admit... I'll probably pick this up once I get a 3DS. Memories of N64 and PSX are too strong.

What's up with all this love for the 3D-engine era Rayman shit?
 

Not sure if this has been said yet, but this port is the Dreamcast version form what I've heard.

I'm a big fan of 3D platformer s, so I should probably get this. It's pretty cheap now to which would make less of a dent in my wallet. I look forward to quick looks done by Matt Kessler.

Has anyone noticed that the gameplay is lagging behind Ryan's and Kessler's commentary (and this goes for all recent Quick Looks on the site). It's especially noticable in the last minutes, where you can hear their outbursts before Kessler crashes. Other than that - great Quick Look of an unfortunately bad port. :)

The overworld map was in the original Rayman 2. I remember seeing it on Dreamcast.

I wasn't having any problems of the sort, everything was spot-on for me. Could be something on your end. Post it in the forums, maybe some other folks have had the same problem?

The game audio isn't out of sync, just the commentary; which means it's not something on his end. In the last few minutes of the video, whenever Kessler would crash into a crate, Ryan would groan about it a second or two before it happened. :P

Ubisoft has constantly put out shoddy portable products. Every Ubisoft PSP release I've ever played (The Prince of Persia games, all their Tom Clancy titles, Avatar, Driver 76, on so on) have all had either terrible sound (cut-offs, out of sync, low bitrate) or appallingly compressed video elements (POP: Warrior Within's cutscenes are a blurry, blocky mess).
 
No surprise that they're still at it.

Yup, the music and sfx sync up fine, but not their commentary. I noticed it as well as it slowly got worse as time went on.

I never liked the 3D ones.

So moral of the story, good game, not a good port.  Better to just get Rayman 2 on GOG.com

Probably already been said, but that overworld was totally in Rayman 2 on the Dreamcast - that's my only experience with this game (and yeah, I agree, totally amazing game, one of my favorites).

Are these guy watching these videos in reverse or something? I ask because on the last section with the rocket around 19:58, Ryan said watch out for the thing on the right but it comes out on the left and in the QL of ITSP, Vinny kept saying to take the left and then Brad went right.

Wish I played this game when it first came out, so I could have my mind blown like everyone else.

Also, is this another occurrence of the 3DS making a game worse? I seem to remember the Dreamcast version looking a lot sharper, unless it's just my old man brain playing nostalgia tricks.

I loved the first Rayman and the rest of the 2D ones as well, one of my earliest, fondest memories of actually playing a game.

As much as I love Rayman 2, I can't imagine why'd you do a 3DS Quick Look of it. A) It kinda sucks whenever you guys do handheld QLs because you have that frame/border taking up space. I mean, Rayman 2 came out on GOG.com around the same time - why not do a PC QL ("Throwback", I guess), and get the fullscreen going? Secondly, or B), There are far more interesting NORMAL DS games out now than the pathetic 3DS lineup. You guys looked at Monster Tale, Pokemon and Okamiden - which was awesome -, so why haven't you guys looked at Radiant Historia or something yet? Believe me, it's far better than every 3DS game currently on the market. Definitely worth a Quick Look.
