@benjo_t: Why would it be Dave who does it? What little shooters that he has actually shown off (metro, stalker, cryostasis) he hasn't actually been great at it.

Also why do you perceive him as the sniping guy?

I perceive him as more receptive to niche or weird products, which the rest of the crew tends not to be at times.

Totally right. Even then though as with the quick-look, if youre playing it like a run and gun, its not going to play very well.

This is frustrating as fuck.

Play the motherfucking game before Quick Looking it. You could at least show that amount of courtesy. Heck, fuck that, try actually finding out what the game is about beforehand.

See 8:30 in - giant yellow dot showing where to go and you guys being confused as fuck. ARGH

Well that was as terrible as I thought it would be with Jeff/Brad playing. Even with a super restrictive and linear tutorial they still managed to fuck it up, kudos!

Never heard of this game...enjoyed the QL. It appears the more you 'enjoy' the game the more you dislike the QL cause 'they didn't do it right.' Personally, I don't care "how" they did it because a game like this never appeals to me and I just wanted to enjoy a video. Jeff charging into battle while random "Serious Business" guy shouts "NO!"...That's hilarious.

I think Brad uses the term "puzzle game" far too loosely.

It's what happens with words/terms like this in gaming, we got whole new "genres" because people using terms loosely like this. I mean just look at the usage of "indie game" by now, these games are by now also just an "genre"...

Even this game could be considere an "puzzle game" in an abstract way, it seems to have stealth elements and risk&reward mechanics that promote different approaches by the player. You can go in guns blazing or try to stealth trough, finding the best combination between both could be considered the "puzzle" here.

And I also don't like half assed quick looks, most of the GB crew are pretty bad in "general gaming" most of them have their own genres they like and are good at. So when they play something for the first time that's not their genre they usually tend to miss half of the game's tutorials/tooltips and all kinds of other things. It doesn't help that they talk with each other while playing, so they miss even more "in game stuff". So often this ends up giving a game an "bad vibe" because they didn't pay enough attention to the games unique mechanics and don't play the game properly like it's supposed to be played.

While they didn't have someone who'd really explore the game, I think it gave a good look at the game.   I admit, sniping is one of my favourite things,  especially when the game doesn't seem to expect you to do it.   I imagine if they put someone who knew what they were doing it wouldn't expose the jank as much.

For the record, slow-motion bullet cams are both a cheap gimmick and highly entertaining.

Aside from the fact Jeff usually does entertaining Quicklooks you mean?

He was fine till he got to the multiplayer where he got noticeably scared of the situation he found himself in. Which was in fact, entertaining in it's own way. Plus the chatter was funny.

People need to accept the reality that the Giantbombers aren't exactly on the verge of taking their gaming to the professional level. I know I have ages ago.

At least he had the respect to fore warn us for like a whole minute of commentary that he dislikes sniping the most out of any other aspect of a shooter and then at the end comments that anyone who likes sniping will probably enjoy it. Other Journalists would just straight up tell you its a bad game and lie they weren't bias in any way. But I will agree that if someone else at giant bomb likes sniping they should have done the quick look and not Jeff. A game that has "Sniper" in it should indicate who its going to appeal to.

Anyway I loved the first game, even though some complained about certain unrealistic stuff (gameplay>realism myself), and Im having a blast with the second one.

I find Jeff's take on gaming refreshing. He doesn't play to the hardcore at all, he comes from the perspective of someone who doesn't play any game enough to be good and rather than trying to hide his skills seems almost defiant of that fact.

It seems like most kids still have the opposite mindset though, and Jeff is preaching to people that can't be converted. Kids who think because they watch professional Starcraft and Halo matches that that should be what we all strive to be. When the majority of gamers have the commitment Jeff has. And certainly don't like every aspect of every game they play.

Right at the start... when Jeff fails to see the yellow dot where he should place the trip mine? And then Brad fails to understand when Jeff repeatedly tells him he's already placed his only mine? That was pretty bad.

I haven't been enjoying Quick Looks much lately. It seems like they aren't interested in the games they're playing. Which is probably the case, but it's not much fun to watch.

Also im glad i wasnt the only one who got stuck in the tutorial..

EDIT: It was pretty unfortunate that for the headshots you got, none of them were skeletal.

Definitely just perfect! Thanks for pointing it out, while first watching my train of thought was distracted by the movie talk.

I found the demo of the first one both interesting and very confusing especially as far as interface was concerned. And man, does this tutorial look dry and crappy. Seems like a problem of either small budget or time pressure because otherwise it couldn't be that hard to present that information in a fashion that is a little more coherent, could it?

I really like the concept and some of the gameplay ideas - I guess I'm one of the mentioned "sniper fetishists" to an extent. Although I'm with Jeff in that I never really enjoy sniping in MP Shooters, not even with mouse and keyboard. Looks like some of the WWII uniform and flag stuff is slightly toned down BF1942-style so I might actually be able to play the original version which was a problem with the first one. Interesting game and QL!

GB needs to give more consideration to who quicklooks what - what is the point of Jeff, who doesn't like sniping, showing us a Sniping game? Why would we want to see that? It's frustrating to watch someone struggle repeatedly because they haven't taken the time before hand to at least familiarize themselves (even on a cursory level) with the game. I understand the appeal of the 'candid first play' but even so, a passing glance at the manual or the back of the box might improve vids like this tenfold. As it stands, watching ill-informed people try to act informed about this game wasn't cool, guys. You can (and usually) do way better.

GB guys - watch this video yourselves. Is this entertainment? Would you pay for this?

Well since it is a quick look and quick looks are free technically no.

I thought all of the negativity was at the beginning of the video but after Jeff aired out his grievances about sniping games it was a fairly neutral look at the game. They did point out it's problems with the tutorial. When Jeff fucked up the trip mine thing he said that it was his fault. When Jeff was laying down the mine next to the dead body he was right in that the game didn't give him any indication on what to do next. Especially since when he moved in the wrong direction it would reload and he would have to set the mine again making it look like he set it wrong. The diamond was so small that I wasn't able to see it until they pointed it out. They didn't blame the game when they were taking the shot trying to kill the guy in the fedora. They just said that they didn't know how to shoot. They were also talking over most everything to help make the quick look interesting. It would probably be better with the flight club quick looking it since it is up their ally but Jeff/Brad did a decent job.
