Quick Look: Sniper Elite V2

This game sucks just like the first one. The first sold 1 million units. Great job, gamers.

seems an odd choice to me as well, like what are you fighting for? now WWII can end even more tragically, yay...?

I was fully expecting some Dave Snider in this one.

It owns when they do Quick Looks like this because everyone freaking out in the comments when they don't like it are the best.

Its funny watching Jeff try to play this game like CoD.

That being said, it looks like this game has some good stuff to it, but it seems like it suffers from the same problems that most of these "inbetween" realistic/arcade games do: Its too arcade-y for the realism crowd, and too confusing for the arcade crowd.

Wierd team for this kind of game. Would have expected Dave and Vinny.

The ironic thing is that the scientists working on the V2 actually mostly defected to the US and went on to work on the Apollo Program. Werner von Braun for instance.

This is now my favorite Jeff-moment.

I really liked the demo for this when I played it a few weeks ago, but Jeff couldn't give less of a shit which made for a somewhat frustrating Quicklook.

(Not a criticism. He just didn't give a shit. Which is fine I guess)

Playing it is more fun than watching it, is what I'm saying I guess. One I'll pick up later down the line.

This game is one of those guilty pleasures that I'd like to play and would probably enjoy but I just don't want to pay full price for it.

i loved the first one and after watching this i think the game looks just as awesome as that one and i don't regret my pre-order. now, off to download this from steam :D.

I have to admit. That bullet cam is pretty good as far as bullet cams go.

Actually looks really good. Of course they got Jeff to QL it, so it will be marginalized into obscurity.

I didn't mean that in a negative way. I was expecting it to be an insanely realistic sniping simulator. What I saw was a stealth focused third person game that can have very realistic sniping, but gives you options if you only want somewhat realistic sniping. If anything, I can away from this Quick Look moderately interested in the game.

And seeing the innards of those Nazis when they were shot was pretty cool.

Why would you say that? I have immense respect for people of my country who sacrificed their lives in World War 2. More than 22 - 29 million (numbers were never confirmed and falsified after the war by the government) people were lost on our side. I understand if you don't support Soviet ideology, I don't either but it doesn't mean you have to disrespect the dead. I even understand looking at the game objectively, when the first one came out I actually had that argument with an older friend of mine but with time I learned more about the war and the things soldiers had to go through. It's terrible and using it just to make more enemy types in the game is very disrespectful. Bear in mind I'm not talking about games that use Russia as an enemy. I'm fine with most of them since they are not taking place in a real historic environment. I'm not even talking about multiplayer games where you shoot soviets since someone has to be the other side or else we wouldn't have a game.

Plus releasing the game on the week of the celebration is a bit too much if you are not willing to respect the people who game their lives in the war.

If I said something that offends you please forgive me. It was not intended and I hope you can explain why it did.

@Laini: The first is definitely better than this one, but I'm still enjoying V2 for what it's worth. Expect something kinda straight-forward but still oddly satisfying!

@Xeirus: It wasn't just one sentence, the whole mission briefing was about that you have to kill that guy and it wasn't just said, it was written down to. On top of that, the game even aims for you at the guy at the beginning.

Hah, "Men in coats" tore me up. Jeff is one funny sonvabich. And I'm totally onboard; sniping is always the single most boring part of every FPS in my opinion. Why anyone would want to do nothing but....

Why not make an entire game around some other miniscule concepts... We could have Door-Opener: Elite, or Low-Angle-Camera Sprinting: Elite. That sounds like about as much fun to me...

Well, honestly the little target diamond is a little small on PC.. but you´re still kinda blind if you don´t see it.

Why do some of you guys who are already balls-deep in a game feel you need to have every detail of that game examined in a Quick Look? Why would you even expect that? It's not a strategy guide or a review, it's a Quick Look. It's a way to express first impressions. It's about showing enough to let people come to their own conclusions. As someone who only knew that Sniper Elite V2 was a game on Steam, I feel that I understand the game well enough now to decide if I want to play it or not. And I had fun watching. Mission accomplished.

@Melos: The main problem is that with most other games, one of the guys first play the game for a while and figure it out and only then they make a video on it. In this case, it's actually a game that takes a bit to figure everything out, yet on this one they just went in completely blind from the start.

I really enjoy sniping in most games but I don't know that I'd be down for a whole game of that.

So, Bruno Ganz wasn't the first german speaking actor to portray Hitler, that part isn't a controversy at all. Rather some people felt like the movie portrayed Hitler too likeable. Also, it's strange how you get used to shooting your grandparents when you live in germany. After all, its just a video game.

This is a weird sequel to Bastion, but at least the got the same narrarator.

@simkas: True, the guys don't usually go in blind, but I don't think they need to figure everything out to show the basic mechanics and presentation of a game. I can figure out the nuances of the game on my own if I play it. The point of a QL is to help me figure out if I want to go that far (and to entertain me), and I think this QL does that just fine.
