I agree with a lot of the posters. Seemed like the wrong crew to QL this game.

Perhaps someone more patient could have delved more into the higher settings of the sniper mechanics.

Get back on the horse guys. Its not the end of the world but sure ain't your finest hour.

Wow how did they manage to never see the that guy in multiplayer? I thought it was pretty obvious he was on top of the pink building. Then towards the end of the video, the guy is on the screen clear as day and they dstill don't see him. Lulz noobz.

This reminds me of some old school gaming, kind of janky, kind of limited, but definitely fun. Tutorial section is unusually bad though, not even being able to turn around feels insanely weird

Interesting how Brad compares it to sniper fetishism (definitely true) and that it basically strives to depict all aspects of the sniper's experience.

Jeff saying he has no clue how to even approach this tactically reminded me of one glaring omission: spotters. Now, I know not every sniper always had a spotter, but spotting as a tactic significantly improves effectiveness in combat for a number of reasons. He's looking out for your head, and pointing out the enemy's, and you trade positions so you don't get too tired, etc...

If the lack of spotting is a DELIBERATE omission in the design, it seems like they missed an opportunity to explore the impacts of being a "lone wolf" on the front. How does a lack of companionship, "battle buddy" if you will, affect my character's morale? What of the endurance and camouflage used by snipers of the time? I know these can be hard to implement from a gameplay perspective, but they can pertain to the story as well. Perhaps in the universe there ARE sniper teams and there is a clash or rivalry between the systems? I am looking forward to playing either way...

EDIT: Wish I could Photoshop: Sniper Jeff trains his sights near the bottom of a window, and is surprised by Brad Bomb's guerrilla tactics, peeking out all sidey-loo.

"Who's that?"

"Woody Harrelson."

I don't know why this was so funny to me.

IDK who makes the decisions on what games to QL or review, but IMO Jeff needs to be more behind the scenes.

This seems pretty cool. A game completely about a sniper has a lot of potential to be extremely interesting. The gravity settings are always a nice touch, and this could offer a refreshing change up from the same old shooters that are poured out by the dozen. Very few companies try to make an interesting shooter. As fun as Battlefield 3 was and as fun as the new Call of Duty probably is, it would be nice to have something different from "kill the terrorists"

Love a Jeff and Brad Quick Look, and I appreciate the effort to continue doing these in the face of this "dry-season" of games.

Played the shit out of the demo and bought the game on Friday. It's a pretty cool game if you "roleplay" a little.

Too bad they only quick looked the tutorial part, as that is by far the shittiest part of the game. Though the rest of the game do have a bit of jank as well.. Like that you can shoot three dudes in a room and the two guys in the next room 5 meters away didn't hear anything since they're not in the same "cell" or whatever, the detection mechanic is very inconsistent. Sometimes dudes spot you 150m away, sometimes they can't see you when you're up in their grill.

The game does the long range stuff pretty well, and it's super satisfying to pull off a 200m shot to someones face, but there's too much close quarter sneaking stuff and the game just don't have the controls to deal with that.. so you'll just end up shooting everyone until the music calms down instead. The cover system doesn't work very well, as your dude isn't very much in cover at all most of the time. "Realistic", sure, but it's cooler to have guard sentries stroll right by you and pop up and break their neck, rather than they spot you immediately. The game has some cool mechanics, like bullet-physics and sound-camouflage (i.e shoot when the bell rings, thunder rumbles etc), bullet-cam and x-rays.

Sniper Elite V2 is about 5-7 hours long, depending on play style and how much time you put in the stealth-aspect of the game.

All in all, it's a fun game to play if you put your mind to it and treat it more like a SC or MGS type game rather than a Gears of War game.

Also, press "tab" to make the waypoints appear anytime, with yellow arrows pointing if it's off camera.

The single player actually looked like it could be fun. I don't know about 50 bucks but at the first sign of a sale this will probably be a must buy for me.

GB needs to give more consideration to who quicklooks what - what is the point of Jeff, who doesn't like sniping, showing us a Sniping game? Why would we want to see that? It's frustrating to watch someone struggle repeatedly because they haven't taken the time before hand to at least familiarize themselves (even on a cursory level) with the game. I understand the appeal of the 'candid first play' but even so, a passing glance at the manual or the back of the box might improve vids like this tenfold. As it stands, watching ill-informed people try to act informed about this game wasn't cool, guys. You can (and usually) do way better.

GB guys - watch this video yourselves. Is this entertainment? Would you pay for this?

The point of Quick Looks isn't to provide a serious informed in-depth look at games. Its so we can have a, you know, 'quick look' at the game and hopefully be entertained by the crew at the same time. I'd say this video succeeded admirably.

Most people can see what the game is like by looking at the video, if you really have problems then wait for a review.

did not expect that interesting discussion between brad and jeff. cool.

also, at least Jeff is somewhat competent at shooters. Vinny and Dave might well be enthusiastic about this kind of game, but a quick look by them would probably be 90 minutes of getting shot to death every few seconds. No offence to Vinny and Dave, but their talents are better used in bringing us obscure ass pc rpgs and sims.

@Melos: The main problem is that with most other games, one of the guys first play the game for a while and figure it out and only then they make a video on it. In this case, it's actually a game that takes a bit to figure everything out, yet on this one they just went in completely blind from the start.

I'm not seeing why that's a problem. They don't always do quicklooks of games that they know intimately, in fact, the one's that they do into blind are usually the most entertaining one's.

Why does it even matter? If they didn't cover it all you'd probably still be bitching. Anyway, the people who are into this type of game already know whether they're gonna try it or not. I played some and it seems like it would be fun for 10-20 minutes tops...it seems like a tech demo they decided to base a game around. The title alone should be an indicator of whether this is your kinda game or not.

Yeah but people who are closer to the target audience probably know how to better show and demonstrate the game. For instance, I don't know jack shit about football leagues and if you put me in front of Football Manager it would be pretty damn boring and frustrating...

You are probably right, but I don't think showing off and demonstrating games has ever been the point of a quick look. There are a million videos round the web for every game if you want to see that sort of thing. A quick look is supposed to be the crew jumping into a game to yes, give us an idea of how it is, but more importantly to be entertaining which they do through their personalities. Don't tell me Jeff sprinting across the map firing wildly and then dying because he stepped in fire wasn't funny and you wouldn't have got that with someone taking the game super seriously. If you are here for fully featured gameplay demos you have come to the wrong place I think.

This is true. I think you definitely have a point about going in blind. I think my main issue is when the person clearly isn't enjoying themselves as has trouble putting in any real effort. However I don't think Jeff has this problem as he seems to take games hes not too fond of in stride most of the time. Sometimes Brad or Ryan can be bad like that though...
