Quick Look: Solo: DreadOut

I actually thought this looked interesting. The kids act like kids (film and game makers, take note), the puzzle elements seem intriguing and the pace is nice and slow. The combat seems unpolished, but I like that failure is conveyed through a jump scare.

I get that it's technically incompetent, and apparently very short, but there are a lot of good ideas in here.

Oh right, this is that Fatal Frame looking game.

Is this another one of those situations, like Garshasp and Unearthed, where you want to support game dev from countries that don't have a good game dev system, but the games are kinda awful?

Hm, and here I thought the giant gaping weak point on that ghost's back was a bit too conspicuous when I played it.

I kinda want to buy this game just to support the developer, but, yeah, the game seems to have quite a few issues, and the demo seemed much more effective at what it attempted to do.

Also, I didn't find those hands particularly big. Not sure why Patrick thought they looked so unnatural.

I haven't played it, but that really seemed painfully obvious.

Heh, when I played, she never turned around quite as hard as in this video, so I never got a look at her gaping hole (Ohhh yeah!) until the pot-of-stew-or-whatever scene, then I was like "Well, I don't know why taking a picture of a different part of her body would hurt her, but why the hell not?"

Well this game is awful!

Props to them for making something. Just wish it looked the least bit interesting to me.

It is, but it just... looks like the back of her skirt is a little flesh colored, and the zipper is a thong.

I can't have been the only one that laughed real hard when that slap happened during patty-cake outside the school.

Also Patrick has good taste for thunderstorm liquor. When I was camping for a weekend in the Adirondack Mountains (NY) two weeks ago, a night on Pharaoh Lake had insane thunderstorms and lightning for about 4 hours. My friends and I passed around a bottle of whiskey under a lean-to and had an amazing time.

My friend thought he saw a white walker, and we all laughed real hard. Then we thought about it, and he actually may have seen a bear.

I kinda respect this game in a lot of ways. They've worked with a tiny budget and managed to squeeze in some very good ideas. Sure, the graphics aren't exactly fantastic, but it's competent enough to frighten you without using jumpscares (unlike Outlast) and the ghosts are mostly pretty interesting.

As a Chicagoland native, I can say that the Rosemont Flea Market is definitely worth attending. You have my full support.

the demo for this game was HORRIBLE....this quick look doesnt convince me the actual game is much different.

Hey Patrick, I purchased this thing on Indiegogo after enjoying the Mac demo but the final product is Windows only to my understanding, so I can't play it. I know you guys have discussed the sense of entitlement backers feel after supporting a crowd funding project, do I have a case or am I being too complacent?

Is the main character supposed to be a stoic mute? That cutscene on the bench with just Ira talking was real surreal. And that transition to night with the main acting all creepy for no goddamn reason.

I really wanted to support this team but after watching this quick look this game comes off as the worst kind of camp. Maybe that means it will be great? Goddamnit, now I don't know what to do...

the later parts are way scarier. the intro is silly stuff.

This was the creepiest yet because of Patrick's obsession with that guy's butt

I think this game's demo looked much more promising than the actual game itself.

What Patrick is getting tripped up on is that the ghost looks like it's teleporting behind him... still a poor decision not to have "easy" ghosts at the beginning and ease you into some variety.
