Quick Look: Solo: Metro: Last Light Factions Pack

Why are people crying about one one-person Quick Look? It's not like all of GB has decided to change to this format. I think Patrick did fine. And, not everyone watches every single QL just to be only entertained. Some of us watched to be informed as well, and I got the info I was looking for from watching this.

I'd like to see both Alex and Patrick do some Quick Looks on the games that you're not going to see from the rest of the crew though. Patrick tastes have really broadened and he hits an area where the rest of the crew doesn't, so seeing him cover that stuff is really informative. I think so at least.

How could solo quicklooks, in principle, be a bad thing when we've had the Greg Kasavin Elder Scrolls marathons as evidence to the contrary?

Meh, a quick look is a quick look. One, two or three people, it doesn't change the core of the format, namely showing off a game and talking about it.

I personally really like patrick and his perspective on games, and so I personally enjoy pretty much all of his contributions to this site, including quick looks like this.

Patrick also seems to have broader gaming interest (as far as being into many different genres) than the other crew, so he might be willing to quick look games the other crew members wouldn't even consider playing, which I think is a good thing as that would introduce a better variety of games being featured in quick looks.

That's certainly true IMO. I think we'd have missed out on a lot of great indie QLs over the years without Patrick's influence. Already missing the Patrick/Vinny ones. :(

Why are people complaining about a solo QL? QLs started as a solo thing (except the very first QL which was a QLEX) that jeff was doing and eventually evolved into a two man thing. Patrick doing one by himself is totally fine. Alex should do some of them too.

Yeah, other than the artifact-hunting section of this DLC, it seems pretty weak. Sniping all the dudes without raising the alarm is an alright mission, I guess, but still pretty meh. And that opening shooting gallery just seemed terrible.

Have to agree that I never liked the feel of the one person QLs. Not that this one wasn't informative, its just that the best QLs I feel dont give a shit about being informative and having at least two people helps get past that by allowing for a conversation to happen instead of just talking about the game at hand.

Reading some of the comments regarding piping someone in makes me think they didn't see Brad's Rogue Legacy stream. I'd rather they just not do solo QLs.

Quick Look Home Show would be a good name for these.

Eh, I don't mind the one man Quick Look format so long as it isn't a very common thing, but I'm pretty sure there's a reason why it hasn't been done in 4-5 years. Probably because it's normally not the best way to do it. Calling anyone a "dick" who doesn't like it is a bit much, but then again it's the internet.

I haven't really found one-man video features that entertaining. They're a little boring without the back and forth commentary. The exception being Spookin' with Scoops. That feature works because horror games are entertaining to watch.

I agree, Jeff even said in a persona ER once, I think something like you always need a partner for a quicklook. something like that.

EDIT: also go back and look at the first few quicklooks, even if you go back 10 pages, you will see, we have come a long way, getting from there to here.

Im sure Patrick will take this feedback and do 1 of 2 things,

• take it to hart and improve on the format.

or

• keep doing what Patrick usually dose, and create content that he wants to create, and fuck the haters.

I know early on in the site there were solo quick looks but I think there's a reason they stopped doing them. This video all fine and good, it just doesn't have that quick look feel, needs a back and forth some kind of banter. No offense to Patrick I just think don't call it a quick look and it'll be all good. Call it a Patrick Look I don't know.

I'm gonna have to get this sooner than I thought. That second mission seems really awesome. I laughed when those Nosalises came out, beat the shit out of Patrick and then just left.

Anywhooo, my .02 cents.

I didn't play the base Metro: Last Light game, but from the looks of this the sound design (disclaimer: I am not an expert in this field) just seems incredibly lacking. I didn't think a chain-gun could possibly sound that unsatisfying. And it's a real shame, because the game's general visuals and art so many levels above that.

I don't think anyone is arguing that one man Quick Looks are the ideal format, but I'd rather have these than not have them at all. Is everyone who is against one man Quick Looks really saying that they'd rather them not exist?

I enjoy the stuff that Patrick covers because he hits areas that the other crew never will, and I find out about a lot of great experiences because of it. So, can we stop arguing over the name and "what the format of a QL should be" already? Giant Bomb decides what is and isn't a Quick Look. This is a Quick Look. The end.

The second mission thing looked pretty cool. That kind of seemed to emphasize the whole survival and gathering aspect of the game. I might get the season pass, if the price is right.

@Giganteus yah, I agree, I also think Patrick dose care about feedback, but I get the feeling if given the option to do a quicklook of a game he loves alone, and to not do one at all, he would rather do a quicklook alone.

I think that is what makes him a great reporter, i don't give a crap that he misspells a few words here or there. He cares about what he is covering. The same can not be said for a lot of people even in ''real'' journalism.

This game looks like a snoozefest

If Patrick has a someone milling around who's as funny as Dan Ryckert's dad, then that's a surefire winner.

Is anyone else seeing the cover of the Truman Show as the image for this quick look on the front page? I did a double take to make sure I wasn't on netflix.

I'm fine with Patrick checking out games himself, but I just think they should be named something else. It's just not the same without the banter of 2-3 people, it doesn't feel like Quick Looks usually do and feels a bit disappointing to load one up thinking its a normal quick look and it's only 1 person playing. So keep on doing them by all means, but name them something else like "Solo Look" or "Patrick Plays" or something.

Don't care who is or isn't on a QL, but put me as another tick in the "quick looks should have two or more people in them" box.

I didn't watch this because I own it and have played part of it and enjoy it, not because I don't want a one man ql, but also, I probably wouldn't have watched it anyway. Patrick is a cool dude but I think the only person I can watch play and talk about a game alone is Jeff.

Also not really a fan of one person QL's, like others have mentioned: I already have places for that stuff.

Maybe for future QL's Patrick could stream how he plays, while Skyping with some GB duder in the office?
Sure the delay would be a little bit odd, but overall it should be a pretty workable solution to get Patrick back together with the gang for QL's.

If anyone else remembers, solo and I believed voice over recorded Quick Looks were the norm when this site started. They became quite a different beast once they started being "live", and then they became actually "live", and now we've come full circle.
