First-- oh wait. :(

Seriously: this is a very creepy game. I think it nails the atmosphere - has a sort of Bioshock quality to the setting. I mean, even the water sections seem extremely claustrophobic in nature, despite the spaciousness. I'm normally not the type to play these games, but I do enjoy watching them. I've been following along with @patrickklepek's play-through.

Finished it last night. Surprisingly well-put together game. Oodles of atmosphere. If sci-fi and/or horror are your thing, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.

I did a little digging online and managed to find some pretty cool early concept art for the game.

I think it's a bit sad that we've come to having a general spoiler warning just for showing ANYTHING from the game (as if that isn't obvious if you're that sensitive about it).

Looking forward to this even if i'm too chicken to play the game myself.

@humanity I'd say 8-10 hours, really exploring everything and taking in the sights. It's not a huge game by any means, but for me, it was definitely worth it.

Man, I was generally optimistic about this game based on the buzz, but it doesn't look very interesting or particularly engaging, content-wise, for me. It also doesn't look very good visually here, either. Oh well, that is the benefit of having quick looks out there :)

Also thank you to everyone who told me how long it took them to beat. I'm contemplating whether I wanna get it now on PS4 or wait for a real good Steam sale.

Outstanding game in most regards. Putting my opinion in a spoiler since some folk think everything's a spoiler nowadays.

The atmosphere isn't as dreadful and dark as Amnesia's, it's much more about exploring the world rather than being scared the entire time. The narrative is also strong. It's not some epic saga or anything, but it touches on some philosophical concepts that made me think.

My biggest gripe with the game are some of the clumsy "stealth" sections, primarily in the first half of the game. There are often very few opportunities to efficiently hide and it's tough to predict movement patterns of enemies as they seem to get suspicious at random times.

Definitely recommended if you can manage the horror game aspect. I'm a wuss and had to do tons of short sessions, but I did it.

Been watching Patricks playthrough of this. It seems way less oppressive compared to Amnesia and I've really enjoyed the writing. Just the fact that the character asks some good questions and that the game doesn't dance around answering them too much is really nice.

Man I am struggling with Dark Descent. I can generally take horror quite well but the way they infused it here is pretty stressful. Normally in a game you sort of get used to the enemy and their appearance, here each time they come its freaky as hell... I wonder how scary is SOMA compared to Amnesia.

PS: I think Alex sort of revealed a bit too much about the beginning as I think I already know what the situation is unless they go insane with it.

I really really enjoyed SOMA. Beautiful environments and some really inventive stuff as far as the player interacting with the world, it reminded me far more of something like System Shock 2 than Amnesia, mostly because it was that sort of setting and a story I actually cared about.

As others have said, shame about the monster sections, which mostly just seemed like lame distractions in the way they were laid out. Also found the ending pretty disappointing. Overall though, can't recommend it enough!

Beat it last night (around 12 hours) and thought it was fantastic especially the pacing. Like others have said it's more System Shock 2 than Bioshock but that comparison makes no sense outside of the setting. My favorite Sci-fi horror game since I Have No Mouth, and one of the most enjoyable story driven games in a long time. Definitely up there for GOTY for me. Love this Sci-fi concept and they nailed it with this.

Aaaaah crap I think I already know where its going. I think the robots after they kill someone, somehow manage to take on their persona and start thinking they were their last victim.

I bought this at launch and I'm a little disappointed in the actual gameplay parts of it. The story is interesting and wants me to progress, but sneaking around avoiding enemies is tremendously boring and uninteresting.

I lost all interest in this game when I found out it wasn't actually in space. I mean I already wasn't gonna play it cause I'm a big wuss who cant play horror games but back when I thought it took place on a space station I was sort of interested in that.

Just finished last night. took me about 12 hours maybe less. I really really liked it. The concept is intriguing and the way the story is told is done pretty damn well. I found the monster sections to be a little frustrating and predictable, but everything else, from the setting, the environments, the encounters, to the pieces of environmental story, and sound design were all really engaging.

The puzzles were interesting enough and the way you interacted with and got the machines to work seemed to have an internal logic that made sense and weren't overly frustrating. Some would take a few mins to figure out what the game wanted you to do overall it's done well.

I don't know if i would consider it fun necessarily. But it is absolutely very engaging and made me want to see it through to the end. If you finish, stick around till after the credits roll, they are not very long.

Looking forward to playing the game, and I'm about half way through the quick look, but I've got a feeling I know how this is going to play out...

I'm not saying it would be bad if it turns out that way because the story looks intriguing, but kind of disappointed. Who knows, I could be completely wrong or maybe that's what they were going for. In any case I'm looking forward to playing it and then watch Patrick.

Never understand why some people get so scared about these first person games with bad graphics. Played Amnesia and it was pretty lame.

Just let Patrick Klepeks youtube account waste time on it.

SOMA is a surprisingly good game. I was not expecting to like it as much as I have. While the game itself is less traditionally "scary", it is unnerving and focused on psychological horror and dread. This game is a step up from Amnesia, and even if you're generally not a horror fan, you should check it out.

@quantical: You sound just like a buddy of mine. I'm guessing you don't like horror games in general?

That whole introductory segment is incredibly well designed, and the story somehow feels incredibly novel despite following some well tread themes. I think it's because of the way it combines the usual ideas about AI and consciousness with darker psychological themes and throws it into a setting that's a interesting mashup of Dead Space and Bioshock. I normally hate horror games but I might just force my way through it for the sake of the story.

This looks like the devs took Bioshock and Dead Space and merged them together with the mechanics of Amnesia. I am really interested in seeing how the story unfolds
