Quick Look: Sonic Forces

The gameplay you can rag on sure, but are we really going to mock character creators in a game that is intended for a younger audience? Like at some point you need to take a step back I think. At some point Dan might as well go to a childrens playground and make fun of the kids toys for being dumb.

This music is very fun in an early 2000s way.

O no, it's not a Mario game... so let's shit on it for half an hour. This game is fine, it's far from perfect, but it's charming in its own way. The story is pretty well done, the level design, contrary to what Dan said, is actually fairly well done, besides a few end game levels. The major complaint that I agree with him on, is that they completely fucked classic Sonic. This plays like a mishmash of Sonic 1 and 2, but with the slowness of Sonic 4 Episode 1. In general the game last about 6-8 hours and if you want to complete it, look forward to around 20 hours. Every version besides the Switch version will probably drop to $20 before year's end.

yeah I've been playing it and I've been having a good time with it but like, its definitely Another Modern Sonic Game in the style of Generations/Colours and if you already know where you land on those then yeah this wont be any different

With sonic games I can never tell what criticisms are legit or not. Like i'm not sure if there's any 3D sonic game journalists would like because it's the cool thing to crap on every sonic game that isn't just a recreation of the genesis games.

On the other hand, you have sonic fans that will defend some of the worst games I've ever played, like Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Generations was a top 10 game of last generation for me. I really loved that game. But Lost Worlds after that was really bad. I think most of it comes down to the level design and gimmicks. I can skip the dialog, and I'm sure the controls are fine even if they aren't Mario Odyssey levels of amazing. I just need to know how well the levels flow when played by someone who's actually trying.

The only good Sonic related game is Mean Bean Machine.

Wow, it's kind of amazing how bad this is in parts, even by normal Sonic game standards. I suppose they invested all the goodness into Sonic Mania.

I somehow still can't believe that every time Sonic gets some sort of momentum, it always screws it up. This game doesn't look terrible, but if it wasn't for the truly bad story and dialogue, I probably wouldn't of even give this game a second thought; it just looks bland.

The Forces people just paid Famitsu more than the Mania people.

Can you imagine what Dan is doing to his brain? He 100% completed Mario Odyssey, and then dove straight into Bubsy and Sonic Forces. Is this for some new Game Of the Year Worst Of category?

This game looks like shit, and that's coming from a guy who thinks that 3D Sonic games are generally pretty damn good.

There's something kind of amazing about the way this game wholly embraces all of the stuff from "modern" Sonic that people on the internet have been mocking for something like 15 years.

Also worth mentioning, this quick look was top tier. "Mattel Fuckmaster" made me laugh a little too hard in a public space.

Please stop making Sonic games.

Also, I honestly feel like Sonic Team made the Sonic equivalent of the WWE 2K game here. The core gameplay looks poor, but I can see Forces getting a following with the customizable character options.

@humanity: Sure, but plenty of developers, movie studios, etc. have been able to develop characters that appeal to kids and adults alike. Just because your primary audience is children doesnt mean you have to lower your creative standard.

This game's pretty decent, I don't know why everybody wants to take a diarrhea dump on it like the Ticked Off Gamer. I've read the atmosphere, people have been waiting for months to hate this game and now that it's out there's blood in the dang water. S.M.D.H.

The guy who voices Illidan Stormrage in WoW (and many other popular characters in games/animation) is Infinite in this game. That's the best thing I can say about it.

I'm guessing the diehard sonic fanbase is shrinking, so they can't justify putting more money/time into the game? Either that or they know that they're enough people who will swallow any turd that looks blue and spiky.

Hopefully they let the guys who made Sonic Mania take the wheel going forward.

Also yah games like Mario appeal to adults and kids alike, but I guess this particular Sega team is concentrating on making kid only content that ties into the TV show, which is probably a smart bet considering that kids appear to like Sonic while adults are, much like most of this comments section, so why bother.

I wish they wouldn't cover up Dan's creepy wolf with that helmet, but it all worked out in the end.

Oh wow, the physical response to characters in the environments look unbelievably bad. The animation blending looks delayed and dodgy... what the fuck.

I loved that analysis of the angsty music behind the cutscene at the end there as some shitty Youtube AMV.

I enjoy watching the crew poke fun at things from time to time. That said, this did not look as bad as they where painting it out to be.

I can see how this might work for some Sonic fans.

There's probably some heavy contrast between this and Mario Odyssey I imagine.
