Quick Look: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

On a happier note I played THPS 4 last night for several hours and that game is still awesome.

This could have come out in the PS2 era and the graphics still would look shitty.

It looks like a mobile game.

This game looks like it was made for 3 dollars.

I actually like the freeskate multiplayer thing, cool to see what other players are doing.

I'm positive they didn't get the budget/time they needed seeing as how stripped down and janky this thing is. That being said, this is their 3rd(?) failure in the franchise. They were not the people to hire for the long awaited sequel. For that, I blame Activision's judgement.

I know there are so many more issues in this game. Utterly huge gaping cavernous holes of horrible, horrible mistakes and royal fuck ups. But is there literally no Rap or Hip-Hop on this soundtrack? Who's Tony Hawk is this? Lil Wayne is even in the goddamn game.

It really doesn't look good. As in, the models are low quality.

I guess it also doesn't look like a good game. What a mess this franchise has become.

This game makes Pro Skater HD look good... and that game sucks!

On the bright side, I heard a lot of good sounding music from bands I had never heard of before. Lots of the metal, rap, punk, and indie rock sounded well selected, and the soundtrack list is replete with musical entities I have never heard of before.

I've been watching this for an excruciating thirty-seven minutes, the whole thing goes for one-hour-twenty-seven-minutes and change. @jeff@danryckert how did you spend so long hating yourselves?

Always a good sign when people start talking about how great the old games were while playing the new ones.

Are some of the user names in the free skate area faked? There were a lot of underscores in the middle of names and then 96 at the end.

This quick look bummed me out soo much that on tuesday i ordered both THPS3 and THUG. Got em today and 3 is still incredible. Jeff needs to pull that bad boy out for UPF.

Tony Hawk's Underground on my modded xbox is already better than this pile of garbage.

I understand the Tony Hawk series not wanting to draw from Skate's gameplay innovations, since that would completely change the feel of the series, but it's insane for them to not draw from Skate's non-gameplay aspects like the variety of well-realized modes, great menus, and the way you could interact with the world in ways that aren't just skating on it.

Then again I can't blame the developers much for not going for a proper successor or some kind of revolutionary thing, since it looks like their budget for this was way too small to do either. Feels like just a cynical nostalgia play to try to cash in on people who liked the old TH games, and sadly that isn't surprising at all.

That player has joined/left text is so obnoxious. Why would you make it that big. And put it right in the middle of the screen.

This game looks like such hot garbage. And for $60. I was really hoping a good Tony Hawk game would finally surface. I guess I'd have to wait a little bit longer.

This is quite interesting to rewatch after the release of the remake of 1+2. Good thing they wiped the slate clean and started over.
