Personally really enjoying this game and I'm not keen on Monster Hunter, which is weird!! I just find this one more accessible.

As a huge Koei fan, I found the demo of this game to be very boring. Maybe the demo was just bad, though.

They should just make another Strikeforce game.

The flow of the game seems pretty different from the Koei style games, yeah. I guess that's where the Monster Hunter comes in.

Hint: You might want to look at the tutorials for the weapons, there's actually a bit more to them, like charging up lots of different attacks with all of the weapons, though I can't remember all of them exactly.

It's just too slow for me, compared to Strikeforce, which was similar in the sense that you were fighting giant monsters and the map was made up of sections. Strikeforce was fast and chaotic and you could fly and shit, which is what I wanted Toukiden to be.

Though, to be fair...I chose to go with the rifle, which probably wasn't the best idea.

@mr__kamikaze: The daggers and naginata pretty much let you float in the air and continue to jump higher and higher and keep on slashing and slashing, so that may be more your speed.

Yes! I've been looking forward to this @unastrike

We were a couple of users discussing it in the Monster Hunter Quicklook, but I personally really prefer this more casual approach to the genre. There's too many things to fidget around with in Monster Hunter, but I can understand why some players prefer that.

I still haven't ever played God Eater, so I don't know if I like that... I know the first one came out on PSP, but I'll wait and see if they bring God Eater 2: Rage Burst out in the West.

Also the lady with the bow should hopefully be allright, since she's wearing a muneate... A piece of chest armor that kyūdō (female Japanese Archers) wear. Of course, Nagi's chestpiece is a highly stylized, tiny piece that doesn't cover up her cleavage, because video games, but the designers did took a bit of inspiration from the real world.

I'm one of those odd ones who cannot stand Monster Hunter but would try something like this. It's me, I'm the filthy casual.

I'm not a filthy casual (I am deep, DEEP into Dota 2) but this game is really fun, so you guys in the comments should check it out. I love Jason to death, but he missed a few important things about the weapons and didn't really show off the variety of skills. There are something like 10 different styles (ATK, DEF, HLG, etc.) and they have all kinds of different skills; combine this with the ability to equip 3 mitamas at once to provide different boosts, the ability to use any fighting style with any weapon type, and you get a lot of depth and variety to experiment with.

I'm certainly not going to say it's as complex or obscure as Monster Hunter, but there's a lot of meat to this game. Not what I was expecting from the developer of Dynasty Warriors, but there it is. Give it a shot!

I saw this QL and thought it seemed interesting, but then saw it was a full 60 bucks. I had kind of expected less since it is a vita re-release, but so much for that. Is the demo a good gauge of it? Anyone care to say if ts worth picking up at full price, or should I wait for a sale?

I have a feeling this game could have been so much more if they put a little bit more effort in to it instead of copying the MH concept and added bare-bones everything. Fancy up the menu's, make it a bit more appareling than those plain looking menu's and fonts etc. It's cool you take an idea from another game but do something with it.

Or the kinda mash friendly nature of the combat? Only thing missing to my eye is the hundreds of faceless dudes on screen.

@efesell: Yeah it's a bit mashy, but that's not something that I inherently link to just DW. As you said, for me it's just the large amount of dude and capturing areas. Oh well, game is pretty neat regardless.

Man ive barely played MH (ok i have like 29hrs logged but im only at Harth and feels like ive not really progressed), and i still have Freedom Wars which i payed full price for for some reason sitting on my vita also barely played. There's something about these that is attractive, but i've got plenty on my plate as is.

Love me some jason led quick-looks. This looks okay but I think, at least for me, a lot of the appeal of MH / games of its ilk is the mechanical depth / complexity that seems to have been culled a bit here.

I bought and played a bunch of the original Toukiden so the fact they allow you to bring your progress into the new game is amazing.

What's not amazing is that they didn't allow cross-buy. Does anyone know if you can transfer saves over to the PS4 version?

I picked this up on Vita on a whim, the first hour or so has seemed pretty fun. I'm all about the idea of a more accessible Monster Hunter clone, so I'm going to try to stick with it and see if it can keep me interested.

@davekap: The lack of cross-buy kind of perplexes me, especially since both versions are full priced ($60 and $40). Cross-save totally works though. Even handles multiple save files.

Oh, look at that. A lock-on camera that still allows you to target specific body parts. I was hearing a lot about how that's impossible around the time of MH4U's release. And every other MH's release, really.

So Giantbomb duders! If I was looking for a monster hunter type game on Vita would you guys recommend this or Freedom Wars? They both appeal to me but having more than one at a time seems somewhat redundant.

A more accessible and easy Monster Hunter kinda seems like it's missing the point if you ask me. Glad it seems to be filling a niche for some people though.

Someone needs to bring a monster hunter style game to PC, technically there's the MMO but that's korea or japan only, there's a gap in the market people!

@creepingdeath0: being in your situation I am having an easier time going back to Toukiden Kiwami than I am Freedom Wars. I find Toukiden is a bit like "if you like the idea of Monster Hunter, but don't have time and/or interest to put up with its density" whereas Freedom Wars is more "you want a different take on what Monster Hunter does, try this out". Both are good games, no doubt, but I'm just finding Toukiden easier to pick up as a filthy casual n00b etc. The world and setting of Freedom Wars, though, top notch.

Unless I missed it, I'm surprised Jason didn't mention that it looks like the West will be getting God Eater 2: Rage Burst, which is also PS4/PSV. I almost imported that one, so I'm glad to see we're probably getting a localization. On that note...

@darkbeatdk: Rage Burst has been trademarked by Bandai Namco in Europe, and Bandai Namco Games Asia has released at least one trailer with English subs, so it's looking pretty likely.

@poisonmonkey: I played this game for quite a while on the Vita. I found it to be too straight forward and not difficult in the least. Eventually it just became repetitive and the lack of difficultly made everything feel really hallow. I didn't play it to the ultimate end game, did I stop too early?

I have loved almost every game in this style. Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and all excellent in their own respect. I feel like this game never opened up though. Am I wrong?
